Why I probably won't visit the forums after the new patch for a little while...

    Well, because I'll be playing : ]

But lets face it: There is a flood of statfans discussing balance tweaks, crafting recipes, discoveries and solutions.

This game is really about exploration...about finding a home. Most of us are privileged enough to have been born into a home built for us...so go figure we take it for granted sometimes.

Although it was helpful in the very beginning, the Starbound gamepedia seems mostly incomplete, and it would have been honestly more FUN to just figure it out myself.

I'd just rather not spoil it for myself. There's a ton of stuff I didn't find yet, and I'm quite glad because that means I'm not making content redundant before we get the finished product.

And, lol, here we all are, rushing through the beta this weekend, just to now sit here waiting for the character wipe, and start all over. I wonder, is the idea of another wipe going to affect your playstyle?

I think you are thinking it over too much. It's a game.

"Starbound gamepedia seems mostly incomplete, and it would have been honestly more FUN to just figure it out myself. "
Yes it is incomplete because it's a freakin beta, also these people creating that wiki volunteer to write articles and upload pictures in their free time.
You wanted to keep away from the forums because of spoilers etc... so what the hell did you expect from the Wiki. Now you are just blaming something else other than you.

Yeah, I'll be out exploring until I feel the need to bring something up. Whether it be a bug or a suggestion.

I understand where you're coming from as far as the Wiki goes. But, without he wiki, I would have never discovered that tier 3 progression is impossible/extremely difficult in the current build. So I probably would have gotten quite upset with the game rather than more excited for the upcoming patch. It's a give and take situation.

No it's just a super controversial statement meant to get one's attention, maybe reflect on their own good fortune laying claim to one. And, I'm not blaming anyone running the Gamepedia wiki. I know that wiki-writers are volunteers, that probably don't have the kind of free time that we, the consumers here, have. They got to play the game and find all the things and take pictures and it's all changing in a weekend anyway, so yeah, it's freakin incomplete. I think I've read the phrase "its in beta" about 50 times today.

I stated the obvious. I should've used the extra 10 words and said "it also won't be updated as quickly as things here."

Spoilers I can handle. I can handle people talking about bosses and things, I can skim over recipes I don't want to learn or whatever. The intricate detail that people will go into discussing balance changes, bug breaks...well half of it is mindless jabber that I don't want to read anyway. I save my thoughts and reflections for after my experiences, and as I did once for this beta release I'll do again for the next build, because it is useful to the developers. We pay a discounted price for an unfinished game and pay the rest with our time invested into it, and hopefully the price point is at a balance that gets people to provide their feedback to the developers.

I'm simply letting the nice forums know, that's what I'm doing. I'm curious what you guys are doing. Don't tell me I'm blaming anyone when I didn't even use that word in my post.

If i reset big deal? I've been waiting a year now to play this? And ill play it over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over Again.

I haven't been "racing through the beta" at all because it's in early beta.
The staff has announced a goal of one released sector per month. That means that we'll have 7 months of beta (roughly). I'd rather not burn out on the game early on as I very rarely revisit games I've burned out on. So instead of rushing and "beating" the beta, I'm just chilling out and doing some exploration, mining and trying to find one of those sweet eyeswords.

Hopefully the developers, along with the questlines, look at implementing a couple NPCs for each race that can train the player (sell recipes, but also give instructions, maybe even with a scripted UI once the quest is taken, if at all). I've seen bakers, bookies, an inn, smithies...all these professions can take on apprenticeships. The downside is that developers would have to implement a starting village that is at least in the same system as you at game start. Although this could open up various advantages.

Wiki or no wiki, the big problem here is breaking immersion to learn how to progress. It should be avoided, and if they player can be taught basics things like how to make food, armor, blah blah blah, then the game should teach it. These can be completely optional, so an experienced (read: all of us) player can skip it. I think after the first or second crafting quest in the tutorials I was ready to explore at my own pace.

So, you're not really participating in beta testing, expect other people to build up the wiki, and aren't interested in any discussion on game mechanics? Why even make this thread?

Stay here and voice your opinion on what going on, we can all make a difference at this stage in Beta.

Well it isn't the official wiki so that might have part to do with it.

Well unless the story developers haven't taken a 9th grade English class he/she very well might not be over thinking it. Games can have a theme too :C

No actually I am participating in the beta. Right now. Riiiiiiight now.

I thought about contributing to the wiki...then realized:
I'm interested in discussing mechanics, but as a gametester, you shouldn't necessarily have access to all the information the developers have, as it breaks your playtest. I'm not here to do math and compare weapons. I'll let the game do that. While some games have a pretty good system (look at Borderlands generation..they've even got melee weapons to an extent...and they probably have a nice big copyright on the code that does it too). So, as a playtester, I want to give an opinion of the game that I didn't realize there were better weapons.

I know some of you waited a looong time to get to this stage of the game. I've been quietly waiting, too. But I also just signed up to the forums, and beyond the basic features and stretch goals, I didn't check out too much else. I want to be surprised :) And I believe this sort of analysis is something the devs are looking for alongside that of beta players that are trying to 100% the game.
