Yeah scrap that, I could've sworn that the FAQ said something about how a public beta would be announced eventually, but now that I've re-read the FAQ - it clearly states that there won't be a public beta... So my thesis is crap, move along :p

I still don't see it coming out any time soon, though. But I would love for them to prove me wrong ^_^

Depends on your definition of any time soon. Any time soon as in two weeks? No way. Any time soon as in the next 3 months? Quite possible.

  3. Let's just release it 2015, because that's the time I have free time. I'm also shellfish [/sarcasm]

2012, 2013, fine. It'll come. You have your opinions, we don't need to keep on making threads about it all the time though.

I think for some people it's an emotional need.

They can still be a bit more patient, plus, there are threads for this.

Oh look another one of these threads. :V

I believe Tiy said that the sandbox portion of the game is mostly done, though don't take my word on that. Personally I think it'll be out around February 2013, because that seems like the time it'll be done at the pace they are going. Just my feelings on the release date. As for the reason I don't think a set release date is good, is because it makes the Dev's rush, which has ruined games before. Plus they have no obligations to release the game at a set date, and I'm much rather let them do their thing and make the game the best it can be and release it when they think it's done. People keep raging that they're just adding in shit that can be added in as additional content later and to just release the game already, it doesn't work like that. Just cause the core mechanics are mostly done doesn't mean the game is ready yet.

Okay. There are roughly more then 12,000 members registered on the forum. Assume those are people that are going to buy the game right when it releases and it's $15 on release, that is around $180,000 right on release. Then you have to consider that quite a few might buy multiple copies, and the fact that there's people who AREN'T part of the forum, and all the Terraria fans that would probably buy it. Terraria itself sold what... Around a million copies in a year, and Starbound will probably sell that or even more. At $15 a piece that is a hefty sum, even if they only sell half of what Terraria sold. So I'm pretty sure they're going to be financially stable for quite a while.

Yeah, either February or March I'm guessing will be the release date, personally. Tiy has stated that December and January might be a bit too busy.

IIRC this is the case. They're basically working on the storyline right now.

I've been seeing a lot of people talking about how there was going to be a public beta. So here I am to set the story straight.

There was NEVER a plan for a PUBLIC beta. However, there was a plan for a closed beta where, if you were active on the forums and made your mark by helping people and contributing to the community, that you may be considered for entering the closed beta.

However, whether this is still going to happen.... Well, your guess is as good as mine. Either way, as it is right now, it's just close friends and family.

TL;DR: There was never a public beta planned.

You may not have gotten the recent news tiy tweeted recently hes considering releasing beta to the public in the form of preorders when beta is ready but hes only considering it due to popular demand whether he goes threw with it or not remains to be seen

I'm completely aware of this. However, I was clarifying something they thought had happened in the past about there being a public beta. But that was never the case. Having beta access via a preorder was only more recently considered.
