Okay, so what you mean by:
is that appears is the key word here, meaning you think it's not magic? Mm, it certainly doesn't come off that way the way you typed it. Could use a modifier.

I called him inflexible, and that was as a description of how he comes off, because he expressed concern that other posters were taking him the wrong way and getting upset about it. I don't really care one way or the other about the general discussion of the thread. But, hey. On the other hand, there has been a bit of ad hominem going around, and the general sentiment is pretty poor.

Like I said, it's a pretty tiring thread, and it's not just because Kuroda's text is stiff.

Did a mod really try to put down a viable discussion? It may be technically "Hating on it", but there's no reason not to talk about things you dislike, how else would the devs get feed back? Let's not talk about hating on anything people don't like, I'm sure companies don't like hearing how to make products more applicable to a wider audience!

I mean no offense towards a Mod, but come on, that was poor judgement.

...uhm, I personally think that the Apex de-evolution was actually an evolution. You know, physically, humans are pretty weak. Sure, we have a lot of stamina, but that's pretty much it. If you ask me, an ape with an intelligence similiar or superior to modern humans and a somewhat similiar culture and technology is in any way superior to a normal human. I know it's a bit strange to say, since I'm human, but yeah, that's my opinion on it.

"hideous by their own standards" seems to imply at least a majority of their race to me.

We also have numerous scientists working on it. About a year ago, the tomato genome was fully sequenced. It took 8 years. That gives them about a year left to identify the exact genetic code that is responsible for tomato intelligence, then we can modify our DNA and become Floran. :p Perhaps they just don't care what they look like. Honestly, I greatly prefer intelligence to good looks. I wouldn't mind looking like a monkey if I had an IQ over 200.

Lets assume you have infinite resources. Without doing anything unethical, how would you do it?

His view on the biggest point of the topic is actually correct. Then when people attempt to debate OP against his position and he retorts with sufficient details as to why they're wrong, then the people resort to ad hominem. They're the ones making OP *seem* stubborn only because they can't see the facts, so OP has to constantly restate the facts, thus making him look like the one who's stubborn.

It's a kind of ugly poetry.

Well, at least we can all learn something from this thread.. Not only about the discussions on the various subjects, but also about how to discuss a subject.

I disagree with him on it, but people have basically been debating this as if explanation chucklefish gave is all hard science fact. When.. its not.

The tone of the game is lighthearted, and everyone keeps insisting the explanation makes perfect sense. Yet its fixed points in time and sonic screwdriver levels of explanation.. It sounds plausible which is fine. Good to go for the game.

Apes evolved from men so to speak and its cool. (for me)

He thinks its a bit weak and doesn't like it, people try to prove him wrong with science. We end up discussing science. Its -always- fun to discuss science. :nerd:

    Thread on! :D

This has been a surprisingly nice conversation, but there's kind of a wall here.
The science isn't the problem really; It's not more scifi than space flight.
I recommend you see 1984, might explain things a bit (they seem quite themed around it)
That was a great discussion, the lack of rage was beautiful.

I still don't understand why people are trying to justify this to you. You obviously aren't changing your mind. You clearly stated your opinion of the situation and left it at that; you weren't asking for a debate. And yet you got one (a goddamn surprisingly big one). Why? Because people disagree. But with what? Your opinion? How can your opinion be wrong? You have a hard time believing the Apex backstory and other's don't. That is fact and nothing anyone says can really change that.

Although you do make the "They're ugly" point out to be more like a fact rather than just your opinion. I mean, I hate apes, too, mostly because of how similar they are to humans, but I concede to the fact that people have differing opinions on that.

I am justifying him because I see where he is right. I'm in essence, voting for one side.

Should only the people that oppose him speak out?

who needs Starbound, this thread is going to be Apexocalyptc.

Maybe you guys shouldn't try to chance this guys mind/taste with scientific argumentations, because there is no point of logic behind the whole races.

Seamurai, Spacechicks, Face(having)palms, Templarobots, Babo-on-moons and even the real humans. everyone got an backgroundstory to feel embarrassed for.

Meh... wait... what did i say?!
Go on and give me reasons to get another bucked of spacepopcorn

Some people just can't stand that he dislikes that race because of those said reasons, because to others, they seem like minor issues. Hence all the debate directed at him, and in a few cases, mockery.

When I said I never claimed everyone was attracted to other humans I was referring back to our conversation prior to this one in which I never once claimed everyone was like me in that regard. You're confusing "everyone" of the human race with "everyone" of the Apex. It is referred to as a physical devolution, if not physical as in strength then physical as in features, which means the Apex are aware of the tradeoff. Which is why I ask, if they truly value science, why wouldn't they find a better means? One that didn't have a tradeoff? Because from what we understand of genetics, one would not be required.

You're comparing apples and oranges. The scientists on Earth aren't actively working to turn every single one of us into hyper intelligent apes. The Apex achieved something on a species wide scale, meaning they would have had many, many, many more scientists working on it than we do.

Again, you're comparing two completely different things. If they had the knowledge to change themselves as they did, they had already demonstrated that they understood their genome, just not how to only increase intelligence. Which I would say a further 10 years of research with a huge team would solve that issue.

Maybe so, however I doubt it. Sexual selection is a big thing in sentient species.

Easily. The way we're doing it at the moment, which more resources devoted to it.

Yes, and you'd be a minority. Maybe some of the Apex did like their new form, I find it hard to believe an entire species would be just as eager to accept what they perceive to be physical devolution.

My three cents. I actually quite enjoy the Apex as a race, they are probably my second favorite race. The reasons for this are simple: I enjoy the idea of a autocratic race, and so like the idea of government/resistance relations and sociopolitical activism etc. etc. I feel the Apex are actually socially more realistic than any other race as of yet, whether or not the science backs up their forced evolution/devolution thing. After all video games are known for their avid attention to scientific fact, such as time fluctuation in interstellar travel and gravitational differences.

Arguing that the Apex aren't scientific enough, is like picking one odd bit out of a horde of scientific issues with this game. I'm more interested in sitting back and enjoying it.
