Why I don't like Starter Pet Stretch

Why do people keep saying that?

I don't like giant mechs, I'm not going to petition that they are removed from the game because they are useful, and if I want to win 1% more easily I have to use it.

I mean seriously, they are not going to be that OP

 

The game is at heart, a sandbox. It's okay to have vanity items.

 

I don't care if there's no stretch goal beyond the fossil goal. I just really dislike the idea of pets.

 

Keep in mind this is for "Starter pets".
Wild monster taming is already in the game.

 

Point taken, but EVERYONE gets a pet with this stretch goal. The chances of seeing a group of people and not having a pet following each and every one of them is slim. I find this irritating.
I'd be grateful if they added the option to hide all pets, but I'm just one person.

 

I think this is why so many people are mad at the idea. We already have pets, starter pets have no real reason and now it's a stretch goal many do not want. I'm ambivalent on the starter pet thing, but if pets have useful functions then I would rather them be unlocked later through gameplay instead of starting with one.

 

i sorta agree it should have been 850K stretch goal cause then everyone can complain about that

 

Thanks for copying Molly's conclusion. I hadn't seen that and hadn't ventured back into the abyss that was that thread since early this morning. It is nice to see that she explained their purpose and I support the rationale. Honestly. Chucklefish has more than enough money to finish the game and then will easily pick up several million more once the game goes live.

 

In all honesty i am more concerned about a ETA on a possible beta than the stretch goal. I mean stretch goals are nice addition to the game but with all that the game has to offer playing it is more of a bigger deal than some goal. We came to support the game so that we could play the game quicker it looks like stretch goals have gone to 90% of the communities heads. This was not the intention remember way back when the only features we cared about was the games design and now we get free stuff for a goal and everyone has gone insane in like a demand mode. Honestly it's insulting to how we care more about a goal than the actual game itself. I think more self respect for the initial game that was being created AKA Starbound should be praised. I seen the 89 pages of bickering over the million dollar goal and the first post showing a 50K contribution. It shows they had no idea it would go this far and yet we belittled them for a lame million dollar goal given they worked there A** off for the base game. Its sad to see what a few new items can do to a community that was so given in the beginning and now chaos over something as simple as a goal that was never intended to be in the first place......

 

I say to all the complainers: quit your bitching and be glad you're getting anything. They didn't have to add anything else, they could have just made them preorders and left it at that.

Actually, I believe you can chose to not have starter pets if you so wishes.

Tell me if I'm wrong, but I believe you paid for the game, not starter pets ? And you didn't paid more because of that pets.

So what's the problem ? Maybe you wanted a cooler feat ? You can't have everything right now, at least 65% of person will enjoy the pets, that's not that bad

 

The pets are like really tiny. How small is your monitor?

 

Part of me wants the starter pet to just hang out in your space ship to look cute.
You beam up to your space ship and the lil' puppy/furball/bug-thing/whatever runs in to welcome you home.

A planet is far too dangerous a place for a starter pet!
Unless it's your home planet, then you might want to construct the biggest, most glamorous dog-house ever imagined.

 

I agree with your overall stance but not why you hold it.

The stretch goals do not require ALL of the money leading up to them, theres no way Novakids need 500k or that fossils actually need that 250k.

 

In my opinion this would be very bad for a stretch goal (not bad per se to put in the game, if hidden well enough). If we ignore any copyright issues, the only work needed to put the guide from Terraria into Starbound is to copy the sprite, add a few new animations and copy the name list. If they haven't done so already that won't take long to put in the game and definately not worth hiring an extra pair of hands to do this.

You may argue the same is true for pets, but at least they'd be Chucklefish's own work, with the aid of whoever they bring in to do the sprites and stuff.

 

^ A million times this. Can't do anything code heavy and game changing, would delay the release. I think people are just spoiled my stretch goals from kickstarter and such and just expect devs to have a long line of cool half worked on features that just need a little push to complete. Chucklefish, keep up the good work and save the major code heavy game changers for post launch updates!

 

I pre ordered the game as soon as it was available, because i was waiting for the game for months now. I didn't know about any fancy stretch goals and stuff. And most people who complain about the new stretch goal have pre ordered the game like me. You already BOUGHT the game. If the new stretch goal was something else would that make you buy the game AGAIN? If any new customers come to these forums, they won't buy starbound because of the starter pets. They will be captivated by the whole game starbound is, by the limitless possibilities adventures and worlds. Thats what blew me away last year. Look at it like this, we will get these pets now anyway. 1.000.000$? They will hit that goal, depending on when the beta launches. I don't think that will happen next week, or the week after next week. and that is MORE than enough time to reach 1 mil. Just be glad we get the novakids, the fossils, the pets, and everything awesome else that starbound is. HOORAY!
