Why don't people use the Hylotl?

Did I really have to put in any funny emoticons to make you understand or do you like being so cliche? Of course I knew what you meant but ignorance is the road to damnation my friend.

 

I like the Hylotl a lot, I didn't think I would but figured I'd try one for my first character seeing what they're like. I really loved them, their style, what they said, everything. Then as my friends and I started to explore worlds they were able to deck their ships out in cool things we found pertaining to their race I was left in the dust. No ocean biome no cool Hylotl stuff.

 

I think you should be happy that you play a race that many people don't play, it makes you a little more unique. I've always been a sucker for humans in every game I play, and I feel like a boring person for it!

 

I play Hylotl just because their titanium tier armor looks godlike if you find a good replacement for the derp helmet. I also like hauling myself around space in a bigass space koi. It just makes me giggle.

 

Personally, they just appeal to me the least. I really like all the races, but the first one I knocked out when I was making a character was that one. Nothing against them personally, but they just looked odd and strange. I will definitely make one later, but for now, they're my least favorite.

 

Actually I think most people don't play Hylotl because There hasn't been an official release of their species! Every other interesting species, other than Human (Hell even NOVAKIDS got one sorta) has had a peek into what they are, but Hylotls? Nothing! Most of the stuff that we know is from codexs in game, and the flavor text of Hylotl characters.
So maybe they'll become more popular when they get that official introduction~

 

At first I didn't care for their theme all that much, however I did like their design. As odd as they may look, I dig axlotls and the I love the angle of peaceful, somewhat narcissistic amphibians lacking the typical froglike traits. And despite my initial impression of their "samurai" lifestyle, it's sort of grown on me. Heck I don't even mind riding around space in my giant koi with my surly glitch doctor.

 

I will be monitoring this thread closely.

Anywho, My friends (All of whom make fun of me for choosing Hylotl) seem to think that the idea of a "Fish Person" is pretty lame. Perhaps it's similar to "Pig-Person" or "Chicken-Person". We don't really think much of those animals, so anthropomorphize them, and they're likely to be unpopular.

That said, Hylotls aren't fish! They're aquatic-but-not-really-fish-people. At least, that's what I tell myself.

How are fish supposed to compare to the generality of "Avians, The winged folk", "Glitch, The mechanized society", or "Florans, The verdant menace"?
I think we're at an awesomeness-level-at-a-glance disadvantage here. As it is, we're only getting people who look into the races thoroughly, or just liked the "feudal japan" style of their clothing/ship.

Personally I like being Human overall just because I'm lame that way. The Hylotl getting Katanas make me quite jelly though. And I usually have someone make me a Hylotl weapon for my Human xD.

 

I'm trying out different races through stage one of Beta (Florans are surprisingly cool. Generated the name Birdkicker, couldn't pass that up), but I'll probably play as a Hylotl post-wipes/ release, because Hylotls seem like they'll be really cool.

My first pre wipe was also a hylotl and i love pretty much everything about them. their acial armor makes them look like Shredder from the ninja turtles and they got badass red eyes. even their ship is cool (although they coolest ship award goes to the avians imho and i like the whole vine motiff on the floran ships.) i havent seen the apex human or glitch racial armors but i have seen avian, floran and hylotl and the hylot have the coolest gear by far. i will say that apex do have the coolest looking storage units though. All in all, hylotly is my favorite race and i wish we could trade in ships. if i could get an avian ship on a hylotl toon, i would never pick another race again.

 

Wait until there are planets covered completely in water, then the rubberband will be on the other claw.
