Why don't people use the Hylotl?

I don't like Hylotl because of the third eye.

I like the beedy eyes, just, not the center one. XP (that and I feel they're taking up the Slot that would go to a Reptilian race instead, and I me some snakes/lizards/drakes.

 

My first character was an Avian and I'll probably end up being either an Avian or a Novakid when the game gets a full release but my second character is Hylotl and I'm liking him a good bit. I have seen much in the way of Hylotl NPCs, though. Just the occasional merchant, no towns or random houses or dungeons related to them at all. I'll probably make a Floren after the next wipe and then a Glitch. Apex are kinda whatever to me, I think I've seen enough of them when raiding their labs and going to their towns. Humans are... Well, humans. Seems kinda boring to play one, personally.

 

My current character is a Hylotl named 'Wet Kisses'. Not sure if I'll still be playing one on full release, but I'm enjoying the aesthetic so far.

I am the very model of a scientist Salarian... I've studied species turian, asari and batarian. I'm quite good at genetics (as a subset of biology) Because I am an expert (which I know is a tautology)

I've got a Hylotl but I haven't really used it yet.
I named is Sashimi though, which I was proud of.

 

Don't even get me started on random generated names. I've seen so many a Moon Moons in every race. Or just..."wat" names or "Lolwhut?" kind.
Humans: Steppborn, Loveman, Bat-Funke, Jackall, Richmon,
Avian: Wingwing, Beakbeak or Flufffeathers.
Apex: Glitter Foot, Glory Feeler, Twinklelicker or Deerape.
Floran: Hunthunter, Hairlicker
Hylotl: Twerkdancer, Scalescale, Carecarer, Waltzwaltzer or Lovebubble..d'aww.
Glitch: Robo Bot, Iron Thing, Robo Cop Zap Zapper, Rob Robo.

This is way too much fun and usually takes me forever to make any new characters, cause MUST SEE ALL THOSE OPTIONS. Can't wait till Novakid xD

Part of it, at least for me, is that there's really no interaction with Hylotls, and so they don't really stick out to me. Most of the other races have at least villages where they can be found, but I've yet to find any sort of hylotl settlement

Birds? Humans? Plants? Apes? Robots? Not for me. Although those Apex females have a certain...allure that cannot be ignored.

 

After the wipe I made a Hylotl, first character being a Floran, and I must say that while their armor and spaceship are kind of bad in design compared to Floran ones (in my opinion), themselves as a species seem awesome. However I would never pick a Hylotl over a Floran without giving myself underwater breathing because a drowning fish is lame.

All in all, I play a Hylotl with Floran armor, easy.

 

Hylotl villages are confirmed to spawn in the ocean, so most likely we will have to wait for oceanic biomes to be introduced.

 

I'll try them out once Ocean Biomes are officially a thing. Until then they have a rather useless and extremely situational racial bonus that I can easily work my way around. I do like their Oriental theme though..

 

I do. They're my favorite race, but that doesn't mean they don't have problems. The biggest problem with them is their red eyes. Because their eyes take up so much of their face, it makes creating a good color scheme for them extremely hard. Red melts too much with pastel colors and is too noticeable with some other colors like black. About the only color that looks good is white. There's also the problem with hairstyles fins. Despite them having 40 hairstyles fin styles to choose from, the vast majority of female players use the same exact hairstyle fin style, which is very limiting. I've changed the color of the eyes to a light blue and added some human hairstyles to mine and I think they work much better. The majority of skin colors look better with blue eyes. The eyes are something they need to let people change.

 

What, they don't have hair, they have fins.

 

I really like the Hylotl because of their architecture and style. Also the will to help people and the upcoming underwater breathing. But as other people said, I find them a little ugly.
And Even though the Hylotl are very narcacistic I am too and I'd rather be a pretty Floran.

But I've played Floran at irritated koala, playing Apex now at the annoyed koala so next patch I'll go for Hylotl.

Why can't they be both?

 

They won;t receive any permanent underwater breathing from their armor, just a prolonged period. If you want unlimited underwater breathing, you have to mod it in.
