Why does StarBound not have controler and or Logitec controler compatability?

There are an infinite number of programs for mapping a controller to mouse and keyboard controls. Don't like it? Get used to it if you are going to use a gamepad on pc games.

It's pretty sad when we can't be nice in a discussion about SIMPLE CONTROLLERS.

    Um actually no.

Talking fps games purely just the mouse alone has a faster reaction time and higher accuracy than a controller. Take the keyboard into account and you have many, many more buttons you can hit than any controller has and you can do it quickly.

This game is very cursor dependent for doing a lot of things. Moving the player around and swinging your sword would all be fine with a controller. Moving around the cursor quickly and accurately at the same time though would be very very cumbersome.

Which is why its a bad idea in general.

I don't see the problem with adding controller support if it's optional

I quite enjoyed the Terraria port to xbox's way of handling controller support. Maybe slower but felt comfortable.

My only gripe was I would prefer to move with the dpad, but it was a quick select on there.

I would love to see this become an option for starbound on pc with a controller.

omg you are talking nonsense. i use keyboard/mouse and i also use gamepads on my PC. some games are better to play with mouse/keyboard others are better with a gamepad
for me in games like terraria, minecraft or starbound controllers are just god damn uncomfortable. omg i remember playing the 360 version of minecraft at a friends place it was just horrible

and how will you select the middle block of a 3 x 3 digging area with a controller? dont tell me you think moving a mouse-pointer with a controller is comfortable...

and yeah if the OP hates mouse/keyboard that much i think PC is not the gaming platform for him nor do i think he plays a lot on pc...

like i said i use both on PC. and i dont get those "mouse/keyboard rules everything" wannabe PC gamers. joysticks. steerwheels and god know what have been around for ever... it never was console exclusive.. so yeah i also hate those PC-master.race kind of PC gamers....

but still games like starbound, fps, rts and mmorpgs are a lot more comfortable with m+k

There's nothing really wrong with adding controller support as Terraria plays fine with one, but it definitely isn't something that's a priority right now.

I never said M&K isnt a good control scheme. I wouldnt use controller with SB unless they got really creative. My comment was in response to this

"A joystick is inferior to a mouse in almost every way, so if you actually prefer the joystick PC gaming is probably not for you"

A controller isnt inferior in EVERY way to M&K. If SB had a good work around for the mouse precision and item management, it would be better with a controller. It currently doesnt, and the effort to make it so isnt worth the dev times- BUT if i had a choice - all things being the equal- i'd always choose controller over M&K.

It is done, i have made the perfect Logitech dual action controller settings for starbound now, the only thing the keyboard would be used for is to type in chat and name and edit stuff like signs, it has been tested and is working fine, ill make it available in mods as soon as i make the installer for it, thank you Cinnaman123 for your input it helped allot your a credit to society and T.2 gamers everyware

I don't really care either way if they add in controller support. To each their own way to play games, I'm not a judge. I do know they've said controller support is coming so you've got more than a glimmer. :D

Your character faces the direction of the mouse cursor. Try to imagine 2-3 enemies jumping around you as you frantically try to face them by pushing said cursor around the screen with an analog stick all while trying to jump and slash or shoot.

    Fun isn't it?

Because you have to completely change the way the game works. You cannot efficiently play this game with a controller moving the cursor around.

    My god.
Somebody asks for controller support in a PC game -> people start talking about why KB/M is all you'd ever need
    Why doesn't this surprise me?

As a matter of fact, Starbound is perfect for being played with a controller. (Given it gets proper controller support and no half-assed solution).

Because you always have to dumb down the game for a controller.

The only way I could see them solving the cursor problem is if they added an auto-target function and the ability to cycle thru them easily. Starbound is not perfect for controller. They would have to change many things I imagine. The combat is just one example.

What is with the hostility? So what if people want to use a controller and find a joystick easier to use than a mouse.
