Why do animals get mad if you stay up past 6?

Once a day, you can pet them by clicking on them.

 

I don't know if this is real or just my imagination, but it seems that, the higher the heart level with animals, especially chickens and ducks, the more they come gather around me when I'm in the pen or coop. Makes for some difficult moving around sometimes.
Anyone else notice this?

 

Not really. The coops are small enough on the inside that the fowls are everywhere at once.

 

Am I doing something wrong? None of my animals are aging beyond 1 month. The amount of hay in the silo never goes down, and they don't seem to be eating the hay in the coop/barn. Is there a bug, or did I just never learn to feed them properly?

 

If they’re eating grass outside you won’t see a decrease unless you get a rain day. As for the game keeping track of age; I think it doesn’t display age in months properly. It’ll change to 1 year at that mile marker. It actually keeps track internally by day.

 

That may be the problem. I've been growing the grass and harvesting it as hay rather than letting the animals graze on it.

 

My usual strategy is to plant 100-200 grass seed in Spring and then only do select cutting until the last week of Fall. Select cutting means I let it spread and fill a whole area and then guve it a few passes with the scythe every few days. It fills back in quickly and you’re always filling your silos. At the end of Fall I then whack it all down for Winter.
