Why are Florans and Novakid so popular?

sometimes a devs view of a race and the communities view of a race don't agree. All of the above, sorry to say, is kinda boring in my view, the view of novakids having severe memory issues is much much more interesting and appealing.

 

But that is why some,like me, dont like them. I have zero interest in a bunch of gasbag retards who cant remember anything.

But that entry in starbounder isn't the dev's view of the nova kid.

Thats from Bietol who,last i checked, created the novakid.

That means anyone who disagrees is wrong and that the starbounder entry will likely be the basis of any future lore and not the rediculous view some in the community have of the novakid having horrible memory.

the community ruined the novakid for me. I used to like all races in starbound equally(that is to say i like them all) but the novakid are the race I refuse to play.

That doesnt change my meaning tho. the creator is the one who gets the final say on this. not you or me.

It is the creators vision that matters more.

And as I just said it is very likely that all of the props and lore that will be made will adhere to that statement by Bietol.

The creator's vision is exactly as important as the community thinks it is.
There's a lot of interesting theory on this topic,
google "death of the author" for more in depth info.

I won't go on at length about it, but the essence of it is that, once a thing exists,
it is itself, alone and independent, and all observers are "outside" as it were.

That includes its creator, the idea is that no one viewpoint is RIGHT.

You don't have to agree with it, I don't usually, but things aren't as black and white as you seem to think.

 

the community doesn't have final say on what ends up in the game prop or lore wise. The devs do.

So if the devs go with the creator's vision instead of how some in the community view it then the community is shit out of luck.

at that point our opinions on the matter mean nothing.

And I completely disagree with you. the creator of any idea should have more say than the community.

what is the point of creating anything if a group of people can just change it as they please?

now I will say that if the creator adds in something stupid that doesn't make sense, like lucas adding jar jar to star wars, then the community is right and ,while there may be middle ground in some cases, that just isn't the case here.

TLDR: the devs have final say so whether or not they agree with the creator doesn't matter. There is nothing we can do about it. We have no say in he matter.

I picked the Novakid because 1) they start with guns 2) they're staves summon stars 3) they are made of gas/energy 4) you can do some really funny things with how they look/there names (my character is blue and has an omega sign as his brand. I realized that after I made him (Pokemon fans should get this)) Admittedly hylotyl are next on my list of favorites and the Florans are at the bottom

 

I'm like Taich. I love novakid because I like the guns, and the cowboy theme. After seeing the creator's vision described, I like that a lot more than the popular goldfish thing the community placed on them too. Hylotl or Avian are next, though I don't care much for the avian ship (hylotl is my favorite there.) Florans are my least favorite. They don't appeal to me at all

 

I've actually been hypin' for Novakid for a looong while before they were added ingame. As a kid I was obsessed with space, stars probably most of all. Now, living gasbag people who are basically stars? HELL YES. The idea alone sounded absolutely amazing to me and seemed to open up tons of possibilities.
When I learned that they were, as someone said much earlier, ADHD space cowboys I was pretty much sold. Maybe it's because I weirdly relate to them? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ I have a pretty janky memory even if I'm smart, and my attention span is short. I could go on, but I can't say I'm ADHD though, never got diagnosed for anything ever. Not to mention I was raised in cowboy state, yeehaw. The goldfish thing irks me, honestly. I prefer how Bietol viewed them, because it's more entertaining imo than "I can't remember anything you said just a second ago herp derp".

Floran are very aesthetically pleasing, and the whole brutal thing appeals to many too I'd assume. I really enjoy them also, but Novakid are always #1 for me hahah

It is called balance, this way the novakid would be the only respectable race in the game while the others would be silly

 

As many people have said, Florans are cute and entertaining, they have interesting theme and funny way of speaking.

For me, the Florans have always been the second "Bad guys", other being Apex. They're savages. They eat people. They even tried to deceive me to lure me into one of their devilish traps! They steal technology! But of course, there are nice and more civilized Florans... Or at least they seem like friendly. I never liked them.

The Novakids are very unique and pretty. Their theme, Space-Steampunk-ADHD-Da Vinci-Cowboy-stuff is great. People pick Novakids (And Florans) because they want to look cool. Who doesn't?

In my point of view, Novakids are all right. I'd be happy to hire one for my crew anytime. They make good guns. They look amazing. They talk funnily. I haven't heard of many unfriendly Novakids. The only thing I don't like about them is the fact that they are the only ones that can make guns at the beginning of the game. "The Ultimate Ranger Race".


I play as Human (Well, ningen.. they just have bigger eyes though), and I understand people who think they're "Too normal", but how is being normal a bad thing? It'd be wrong to pick anything else than the "Default" or "Normal" option just because the other option is not the first one. Humans are certainly not dull or boring to play as, and their gear is awesome. The ship and first armor tiers in particular. Also, I'm a human being in the present time. I love to play as human being in the future.

I don't know why, but humans are and will always be the "Good guys" of the universe in my humble opinion. Might have something to do with Mass Effect, Warhammer 40k, Gears of War and Halo.

 

the goldfish thing,as you call it, is hard to explain as well. If they have such bad memory then how the hell did the achieve space travel without help? or create guns, a culture, a cilization? you cant learn if you can remember things long term.

BTW: I have ADHD and bad memory is NOT in any way involved with the condition. it makes it hard as hell to focus on things you aren't interested in AS A CHILD. You get better at focusing over time.
