I hate elves. Go out of my way to exterminate them whenever I can. But I love Florans. They're the prettiest race in Starbound in my opinion, but without the air of smugness you usually find with elven races in most fantasy/sci-fi media.

I need 1 of 2 things. Either a way to slap people over the internet, or a way to forcefully remove unnecessary extra S's.

You need both, as the former is useful for more situations. Talking about which, another reason florans seem to be so popular is because their speech patterns went memetic, at least within the forums.

I just built a new computer and lost everything (oh well, I'll manage) so I think I'll roll Avian or Hylotl to test this new build that I seem to be downloading (800~ MB download)

My favorite races are human and Hylotl. Humans are funny and Hylotl aesthetically pleasing. Apex, floran, and avian are nice, too.
The main attraction for florans (at least for me) is their amusing quotes. Examples include:
    blood bank: "Vending Machine!"
    employer's station: "Fassst Food?"
    and my personal favorite:
    Ship door: "Door!"

I usually choose the elves in games like these ( unless they are fugly like in the Elder Scrolls series) but I went with humans in Starbound, green haired human, but human nonetheless. Florans are great, mind you, they feel like a new spin on the proud warrior race.

As an officially-licensed human (at least that's what my birth certificate seems to imply I am), I'm rather offended
by all of the "generic human" comments. I'm going to sue your sorry grass asses and then I'LL be the one with
    all of the green!

    HEE-HAHA-HOO!

Oops, sorry there. I must have let the ghost of Wario possess me again in my anger.

Both races are portrayed as comical and silly, Floranssss with all the hissssing and sssstabbing and Novakids... wait, what was I talking 'bout again? They're also pretty and shiny, and are the most unique races as ideas. Least "serious" races in general. Simply everything that internet loves in a condensed form.

I believe Florans and Novakids are popular in general because they arent your normal Human, Robot, or Monkey or Fish. Rarely do you see a Plant race in games and you would expect them to be friendly but they arent. Novakids are liked because of how unique they are, Cowboys/girls with low intelligence that are made of Gas and have brands as a face.

Dryads/Florans are quite common in my opinion. I may have campaigned as a few during a D&D session. They never really struck me as unique, Though the Novakids I can see as unique, but I still wouldn't play as one.

I don't get what everyone's talking about how you'd expect a plant race to be friendly; usually when you see a plant in a video
game, it's either a decoration, a powerup, or a horrible monster that wants to eat you.

Well no, plants aren't humans, robots, monkeys or fish. That's for certain. But how is a sentient robot that thinks it's a medieval serf and says things like "Flirtation. Nice apparatus." in any
way at all "normal"? For that matter, how are soviet space monkeys and feudal Japanese 3-eyed mystical salamander ninjas "normal"? Humans of course are mandatory to keep people from
flying into a shitstorm of theories like "what if hylotl killed humans", "what if hylotl IS humans?!", "what if humans are progenitor race", "what if tentacle monster is actually metaphor for humanity
wrecking stuff and being mean to the ecosystem #downwithmcdonalds #downwithsawmills."

I have no idea why florans are so popular. But novakids are so popular because they're awesome. 'Nuff said.

    We have humans.
We have Apex - humans with more hair.
We have Avians - humans with feathers.
We have the Hylotl - humans with gills.
And of course we have robots - that look pretty darn humanoid.

And then... there's gun-toting fireball-cowboys and walking, flesheating hunterplants. You decide which ssssssound the mosssssst "alien" to you.

This is personal preference and taste, so I say: Bollocks. I love building with their race-related blocks. There. Leads nowhere. ;)
This one I agree with you. That's why I wished there was a "avatar" set as in "The other 2D game whose name we do not say aloud". >.>

Although the Novakid's short attention span has lead to many believing them to forget what they're doing moments after the fact, Bietol has stated the following:
    • "I see this notion here and there where Novakid appear to have brains like crows & goldfish.
    • I really intended for them to be more like Leonardo da Vincis in the sense that:
      • he was a brilliant guy, but he often didn't finish things because his interest in the project would wane after time not because he saw something shiny, or forgot what he was doing he also had too many things that he wanted to do
    • and then, unlike da Vinci, the Novakid:
      • live in the now, with little care for learning from or preserving the past
        • imagine if da Vinci didn't keep a journal
        • imagine also if da Vinci didn't like to read books (maybe he really didn't, I don't know)
      • are non perfectionists; they can settle for "good enough"
    • Here's an example of how technology propagates for them in light of these traits:
      • A novakid sees a floran space ship in action and is inspired
      • He sets out to make on his own, trying to reverse engineer what he can from what he saw in his memory
      • this is not actually something you reverse engineer from sight, but somehow he manages a very crude makeshift space ship
      • he's satisfied; he's spent enough time on this machine and it does what he wants it to
      • his kid sees this work and thinks "cool, me too!"
      • he doesn't ask his dad how he did it, though. Even if he did, his dad would not want to explain it - it's like asking "How do I program a Starbound?" And even if his dad did explain, Junior would not be able to sit through more than an hour of it. He'd rather be working with his hands than listening to theory.
      • instead, he does the same thing his dad did: trying to reverse engineer it
      • however, since his dad's space ship is much simpler and readily accessible, Junior is able to complete his version much sooner
      • before Junior becomes bored/satisfied and stops, he throws in a couple improvements of his own
      • Junior's kid also sees this work and thinks "cool, me too!"
      • the next generation of space ship comes out even more refined and improved. However, this space ship takes a little longer to develop since NovaShip II is a little more complex to understand than NovaShip I, there are fewer improvements this time around, since it took longer to "catch up," and the engineer wants to do other things this continues until the time spent trying to understand the old tech does not leave enough time to introduce new tech, and the general complexity of the ship reaches a standstill"
So Nova kids are not Dumb they are Severely ADHD Da Vincis
    :DD
Yes they like cowboys but if you actually read there stuff they like more than just cowboys.
