Who's actually still playing right now?

When you follow the Steam activity charts, you will notice that many of day-one-players are not playing anymore. I think they wait for contentpatches, like me, and playing other games meanwhile. I will take a look after months, when a dozen patches were released and the game give me a sense of playing it

  2. Pentarctagon

    Pentarctagon Over 9000!!!

I've been working on a mod, though I don't know if that really counts as playing per se.

  3. Fiben Bolger

    Fiben Bolger Pangalactic Porcupine

I'm just patiently waiting for the wipe. Unlike most people I have an enormous amount self-control so things like this don't bother me in the slightest. This downtime has been quite *snrkk* productive for me. I've managed to *ffrrmmp* some *grrnnt* and BLLAAAAARGGGH!

UPDATE THIS FREAKIN' GAME ALREADY OR I SWEAR SOMEBODY IS GOING TO GET HURT!

My save got corrupted and stranded my geared character back in the Alpha Sector with also no beam down back to my base of operations. Beamed down to the planet I was currently above, found an Apex Lab, purged it of all life then setup shop as a temporary base untill the next wipe.

Currently playing Final Fantasy Tactics Plus and Front Mission 5 to pass the time untill everything implodes.

I think the problem with playing in early release is that you just might be bored with the game when its officially released.
I'll be honest, I kinda got a bit bored, so I'll wait for a couple more future updates.

If I want for my previous caracters to exist,I can just spawn all the stuff they had and make someone identical to them,so Im not realy all afected by the wipe.

  8. HybridCore

    HybridCore Seal Broken

Not planning on playing until recommendations to create a new character or character wipes are stopped.

That and I'm starting to find playing video games a chore unless playing with friends.

  9. Cirom

    Cirom Cosmic Narwhal

My goal was to reach the end-tier of the Industrialisation tech tree before Wipemageddon with two of my friends. We've basically said "Well, there's gonna be a wipe soon - no use making anything serious, so let's mess around with mods!"

I've only hit Tier 3 of Ind. due to VERY strict pixel costs :T Even the pixel exploit I found with the BioMat mod isn't helping with costs THIS severe.. and I fear Wipemageddon will occur within the next two days..

I haven't played since near christmas, either a little before or after. :V
Just waiting for the patch, I refused to let myself play too much cause I can get burned out very easily.
So I've not gone past tier two yet. :megusta:

I stopped playing as soon as I found out that the final wipe is going to occur. Seems a bit pointless to me when everything is going to be wiped next week anyway.

    UKFX Star Wrangler

I've not played in about 2 weeks. Awaiting new patch before I start over for the millionth time. I don't want it to get too stale whilst trying all the stuff out.

I've been playing Terraria with various texture packs. Frequently switching texture packs makes the game feel like Starbound, but finished.

    Silverforte Spaceman Spiff

Got to tier 10, found out that the bulk of the game is tier progression and stopped cold. Nothing to do. I moderate for Rawcritics but other than orchestrating events for that server, I have zero reason to boot the game up. Of course I hope this changes but the tier system is the reason I burned out so fast. That and the fact that there is no micromanagement of towns or buildings. Need a way to form towns and bases other than because I want to make one.

I want to start a new character, so I'm waiting for the wipe and lurking in the forums.

I've done all the tiers stuffs, but I still play checking out a bunch of mods.

  18. Marxon

    Marxon Supernova

I've been playing normally despite the wipe. The only reason I've stopped now is because my constant tinkering with the game code corrupted all my player saves and it does the same to any new save after the game restarts.

  19. Black ★ Rock Shooter

Black ★ Rock Shooter Hard-To-Destroy Reptile

I stopped playing a little while after the last patch. I built a nice base on my singleplayer world, and I was planning on building on my server, but all my friends had stopped playing before the last patch, and I just didn't really have any reason to play without them.

On top of that, I myself was getting rather bored. This beta really brought a point about procedural generation up again for me.

The environments, and the worlds, might be randomly generated, but eventually they all start to look the same.

I last saw this with Waframe's tilesets - sets of rooms that get put together randomly to create new maps for each mission. This created new layouts every time, but the problem was, it never seemed any different. At some point, you'd seen all the rooms available for a given tileset, and after that, there was nothing new anymore. You'd see a different layout, take a different door out of a room, but in the end, it was still the same.

The same thing happens with Starbound - even though each planet is different in terms of what biomes, structures, creatures, and resources are scattered across it, at some point, you've seen all the parts that the generator has to show you, and at that point, everything starts looking the same.

I think this wasn't quite so much a problem in Terraria because while it had a very strictly defined set of enemies and areas, they all seemed different because they were always distinct. You could always tell what you were fighting, how powerful it was, and think of how to beat it. In Starbound, the random enemies just end up all looking the same after a while. In fact, I started mostly ignoring what they looked like and just paid attention to what attack they used.

The game just needs more content to stave this off, really. Perhaps restrict certain parts and attacks to certain biomes to better differentiate them - compound eyes to eye biomes, perhaps, and air blood vomit to fleshy biomes, perhaps. Having completely random enemies ironically makes them and the biomes seem mostly homogeneous.

I've been playing Vindictus and Planetside 2 in the meantime.

I stopped playing after getting SC:BL in the steam winter sales and D3. I stopped playing D3 (even though I only got it recently) in anticipation of the ROS patch which supposedly changes the game dramatically. Right now, there's too little content for me to feel the desire to test the game for extended periods of time. I'll test new content, but until a lot more is added, it only takes 1~2 days to unlock everything and test the current balance of the game.

With the introduction of the backwards compatible save system, I'll be slightly more motivated to invest more time doing more serious things if I don't have to re-do it like a million times.
