I don't get why anyone would replace the games music with "WUBWUBWUBWUBWUBWUBWUB"

i dont know for the others, but personally im not changing it for any sort of music like that, i plan on using another soundtrack that has great ambience music.

also, ive been talking about it so much, maybe i should link it

there, the entire paper mario soundtrack

  3. That's some really nice music...
But would it match Starbound's mood?

if you listen to most of them, you'll find they are actually great and would probably fit a wide variety of moods imo.

search for "hot times in Mt. lavalava" to see what i'd put on a volcanic planet and "go, mario go !" for battles on volcanic planet. that'd be an example of what im thinking about.
again, thats only my personal opinion, ive always loved that soundtrack so maybe its just me who feel like that toward it and starbound

I agree that the Paper Mario soundtrack is great. But it was made to fit into Paper Mario. I feel like games as well as animes only need their original soundtrack (I hate AMV's with a passion).

thats just your opinion. my initial question can very well apply to any other soundtrack one might want to swap in to fit theire taste and mood better.
i know a few metalheads who would probably be pretty happy and find fitting to put some metal tunes here and there in theire starbound soundtrack, even if someone else dosent like the idea

I'd heard a while back that there was going to be a Radio item that plays mp3s from a folder. That way you could simply switch the radio on ingame when you want to listen to your own stuff, and back off when you want to go back to the Starbound soundtrack. Was that just a wild rumor or what? Sounds like it'd be good to have.

As for me though... it tends to depend. I did this a lot in games like Morrowind and Oblivion because I prefer to play music that I think fits the current atmosphere - it's always subjective. That and I thought MW and OB's music were kind of stale and had no real force or oomph to them. While thus far the Starbound soundtrack sounds much more memorable and enjoyable than Jeremy Soule's stuff, a lot of it seems to be slow, grandiose orchestral tracks which I don't have a whole lot of preference for. (The experimental tracks outright rule though and i've been listening to them on my mp3 player at work for nearly a year now) Plus either way, listening to the same thing time and time again is going to go stale on me eventually, it's just how my brain works.

thats funny, thats also how i came to feel like changing original soundtrack. i found the experimental ones (well most of them) great while i found the new ones like you said, too slow and "grandiose orchestrals" for my own taste.

and i have no clue for the radio. but that just sounds liek something that'd be useful in places where you put it down, so if you are active even a little, that kinda nulls the whole thing

Well, it was never stated whether the radio was an equippable accessory or an appliance that you place in the game world like the music boxes from Terraria. I'm really curious to know whether that was just a rumor, or if it's a Thing. What'd be really cool is if you could set the directory on the radio so you could have one radio tied to your battle music folder, another for your chill music folder, and so forth.

I like the soundtrack far to much to replace it, at least not right away anyway.

  11. I don't think you'd need to mod the game to change the soundtrack; just put it on mute and play music from a different player.

I won't be changing it, anyway; I think the current tracks suit the game very well.

well thats where it bugs me. im not talking about simply playing music over the starbounds one, i really am thinking about playing tunes on a biome/planet specific context, with music ive specifically selected as what i thought fitted the ambience of said biome/planet and have it change dynamically based on where i am.

that'd be hard to do with just music playing in the background without interupting my game constantly.

but thats moot i guess. most people visibly think little of changing or adding to the music so whatever

I generally mute everything when playing a game, so that I can open up some youtube debate, and listen to that whilst I play. I find the rage keeps me going longer.

Supposing the music while you are in a ship and on the ground is separate, I might change the ship music to this.

After at least a hundred hours into the game.
