Nah, it's fine as it is.

I'm listenning the soundtrack of Starbound, and I don't think I will change the musics.
Maybe add some of my library, but that all, and I'm not sure right now.

The music so far in the soundtrack for Starbound is actually very impressive, so I don't see me 'replacing' it ever. However, that's not to say at some point down the road I won't turn the music down in the options menu and listen to my own music while playing the game, but generally speaking I prefer to listen to the in-game sounds and music when playing said game with very few exceptions.

And maybe the music will change if something happened in the game, like a mob, or a secret or whatever

I imagine once I've heard it for several hundreds of hours, I will most likely switch it up.

If its so good like Terrarias and Minecrafts OST i will not change it.

Usually I turn off the in-game music and just listen to some mp3's.

I don't know how you can still listen those musics, they are cool but after a lot of time I can't play with those musics anymore.

Yeah Minecraft's OST plays only with a low level of frequency, and Terraria's lacks any real diversification. That's an advantage we already have.

I'll replace it with the sweet sweet sound of destruction More often than not probably my own.

As Starbound Music's #1 fangirl, I have to ask... why?! Why would anybody do that?!

    Indeed !

I think the same way, but after 100h of game, maybe I will change the musics, but maybe not :D

I love Starbound's soundtrack but I'll probably bounce between listening to that and just muting it for whatever I have playing on Spotify / iTunes / YouTube.

Dude, I had most of the Soundtrack on my MP3 Player for at least a month and a half. (I got rid of it for something heavier, because I'm a Metalhead, and those are my tastes.)
I love the soundtrack, and I think it fits in quite well with the aesthetic of the game world, or rather, Universe. Having said that, I do think some of the themes should be a bit more quick, in terms of tempo.
Sure, I'll mute it to listen to something else, on occasion, but I'll never change the files.

It feels disrespectful of the composer to even talk about this tbh.

He's working hard to make an awesome soundtrack and you're just going to mute it and play something over it.

Editing files seems like a waste of time but if by changing the soundtrack you mean turning the music off and playing better music instead, yes, I will. From what I heard, the SB soundtrack is too calm/lame for my gaming style.

its not like i didint acknowledge the quality of the soundtrack, and its also an inevitable possibility due to the nature of allowing modding to the extent tiy is planning it. Its also a bit fallacious, its like saying modding starbound is disrecpectful of chucklefish's work.

well muting the music and playing something else is of course the easy and simplest way out. you put the extra effort into editing the file when you want the music to change accordingly to your environment.

i'm (yet again) going to my source of inspiration, but playing the paper mario soundtrack in the background versus having its tunes play in a fitting context with in-game biome makes for that extra mile that interests me.

No, not really. Modding is adding something to the game or changing a part of the game to your liking, but the game is still the same.
Replacing the Soundtrack is another, as the work of the musician is ignored entirely when you do.

  19. Fine, what about texture packs? Is that disrespecting the pixel artists on the team because you're replacing their work with some other art?

  20. Gentleraptor

    Gentleraptor Pangalactic Porcupine

In a way, yes. But most texture packs are built on the artist's one anyway, so its not as bad.

Of course, I'm not saying this as a general all-encompassing rule, but my personal opinion. Noone's bound to it.
