Who here is playing a Hylotl?

I still don't get why people love Japan so much.

 

Indeed, modern Japanese culture is so weird. I guess it must be appealing to weirdos.

 

I think it may be Anime. Might be a stretch here, but I think that's why most people love it.

 

Technically, anime isn't a representation of their culture. I bet a good portion of Anime fans have 0 clue what Japanese people are like. Hint: they don't have big eyes and small mouths.

 

Don't ruin it for them, that's not what they think. And yes, I'm aware the cartoons don't represent it at all.

 

usually its the feudal era of japan history that interest people because things over there during that time were pretty interesting and awesome compared to the rest of the world in said era. The culture, mentality and a ton of other things.

 

I find japan's history to be quite boring, acctually.
The thing that most interests me about japan is it's mythology, food, games and robots.

Honestly now. I've never met a single person who ever actually believed that. People who look at avid anime watchers usually think of them in this way and it's pretty stupid. "You mean Japan won't look like a cartoon when I get there? They won't have giant eyes? Oh shieeet...". Never, have I heard a person say this...

On another note, some of their culture can be related to anime. Akihabara has tons of anime traits with the maid cafes and all that. Also, alot of what anime shows can be related about japan. Specifically the geography and look of urban/city places, the school culture of students, food, and other stuff that just takes place in Japan. "Herp derp... I can't wait for people to show their kawaii anime expressions at Japan!" Said no one ever.

 

The Ocean-- it really is like outer space on Earth. I'm excited to see what Chucklefish does with the underwater biomes.

I agree with everything you said in your post, but I have known huge anime fans who go over as exchange students and are really surprised by how reserved their population is. It's like they expect to see a ton of people acting like Naruto, Kyo, Konata, and Tomo. Heck, a friend of mine in highschool "accidentally" fell down while wearing a short skirt and faked getting nervous about her panties flashing in an attempt to get a boy's attention. Fail.

Admitedly these are not a majority of the people who like anime, but they are a scary group.

 

I'm choosing to play the Hylotl due to how mysterious they are, their culture, and because due to my zodiac sign the Pisces, I also love water.

 

I think it is normally more reserved than anime makes it out to be, though like I said some places in Japan are pretty colorful and energetic like some of the cities in the Tokyo region. At least I wouldn't expect them to act like Naruto though, since that anime doesn't really have any modern Japanese connections besides the language they speak in it. Though that's pretty cute... I can kinda understand how people who really like anime would mimic the actions in it. Believing that's what they actually do in Japan is another story though.

True there may be a scary minority group of people who act like that, the same goes for some people in Japan.

 

I will be for sure love the ocean and keen to explore it on my home planet

 

I am playing one of each, so i will be, but Angel will not be my main.

 

i really really cant wait for the hylotl lore, and i hope its well done and realistic, with some stupid silly stuff on the side

 

Hyotl look cool, but for me, I'm rolling both a Novakid and a Floran when the beta comes out.

 

I for one will NOT be playing as a tuna roll Hylotl.
They seem a bit fishy to me.
