Who else is excited for ship upgrades?

I like that the expanded ships will let me have extra storage (I hoard everything, just in case I want to use it in my base and don't want to farm pixels to print them), and also let me have room for furniture and decoration.

I'm with @xxswatelitexx in saying that I'm not the biggest fan of the gigantic whopper ships, because they devalue building on planets. They're easily accessible, have controlled environments (no meteors), are with you when you're in FTL travel, and they have the Ship Locker (most efficient storage for vanilla game). They're also huge, and are nicely separated into rooms.

They are good blueprints / outlines for building bases, which unfortunately brings attention to the current lack of the same outlines/blueprints for planetary bases. Hopefully, one day they will make a portable GECK (Garden of Eden Creation Kit), where you can buy it for a lot of raw materials, and it folds out into a ship-like "template" or "outline", where walls and floors and stuff are already there. These temporary/cookie-cutter materials could be replaced later with more fun stuff, but it gives players an easy way to build a base, and also ideas on how that base could look.

Even though this change in a vacuum isn't everything I wanted, I recognize that CF is looking to give players more reasons to build on planets. Either in the form of rent checks (Yay, Avians hit on me AND give me money... ... wait a minute...), different vendor lists based on housing materials, or other things that they haven't announced yet. So, while this update didn't "go my way", hopefully the next one does!

I personally am very excited for this.
As to everyone that doesn't because it devalues planets, not really.
Whether you want a home base or one in space, it doesn't matter. The fact that there is a choice is the best part. You may not want a huge ship, that's great, don't get the big ship. Whilst someone like me will embrace the larger ship because he uses the ship for everything. I can say that for myself, I already live in my ship and even if I can't make my ship larger I won't stop living in my ship.
No offense to planets but having a base of operations always with you is more appealing to me even if you can set a home warp.

I don't really care all that much about having more space, considering how many lockers I can fit into a regular sized ship I have plenty of storage space already.

This game isn't really immersive to begin with, but I'd rather have the option to create some kind of hanger that functions as a "crafting table" of sorts to design and build bigger ships instead of "expanding" the starter ship. Adding entire sections to an existing ship seems kinda strange and unrealistic (yeah yeah nothing is really realistic in this game fuck you whatever), so I'd rather see it implemented in way that makes sense. Not that it won't necessarily make sense the way the devs have planned (because I have no clue how this is going to work), I'll reserve judgement until the patch.
