If you saw one of Molly's latest posts, and clicked on 'forboding' there is a picture of a gargantuan Avian ship. I'm super excited, because it will be able to be any of these and more!

    Excited?
    ...
That would not be the word for me...
I am more excited by gameplay change like the aimable melee weapon and stuff like that...
Yeah, that's cool, no... that's great, but wouldn't say I am "super excited".

I'm the opposite, we already have few reasons to have a home planet. I don't particularly like the look of the large ship in the image. It maybe be quite laggy too, imagine when that big thing goes into warp.

I'd rather just keep the small ship and have it able to keep a list of planet cords and maybe an expensive teleporter you can leave on planets at high tiers. Not that you need the teleporter as common as fuel is once you reach tier 10.

I don't really have any strong feelings about the ship nav upgrade. Surprises are a bonus and make it more interesting. But meteors are far too destructive for many people.

I think the whole massive ships is a bad idea.
As mentioned above - it really is going to degrade the value of planets.

Trying to tie people to planets with "House renting" is not going to cut it. And farming is nearly pointless considering you have massive ships where you could just grow crops in.

I say start with a smaller ship = and upgrade upto the current level 3 design.

That way you have a "Reasonably big" ship. But not so much it would be considered abusive.

Next make colonies you create require "protection'" through base defending mechanics. Gaurds require money to be paid per week. The more higher tier the gaurds the more money you have to pay. The more dangerous the planet and more protection you offer - the more money you get.

Also make the colonies length of survival and population directly correlate with the "Unique Goods" it produces. So a colony which has a high population and survivability index - produces very rare unobtainable goods after a period of time

Honestly, its sandbox, its about choices, how players want to play. It should not be about forcing players to play a specific way. If i want to put all my stuff on a ship instead of a planet, i should be allowed to do so. If you don't want a big ship, don't upgrade and keep a planetary base. Stop trying to force me into your play style, thank you.

Edit* And sorry, i didn't even answer the original question. Yes, i am VERY excited for the new ships. Larger ships will make for more storage, and more opportunities to spruce my ship up in cool ways.

Creative Mode - is a open sandbox - do what you want no issue.

Unfortunately when it comes to an actual game - it requires rules - definitions - and well defined mechanics to make it work.

Not necessarily, you want to shoe horn players into your styling a play, how YOU think they should play the game. If the game is fun, its fun, and more choice on HOW to play that game is more fun to me then only having one way of doing something.

No offense man, but if you don't like the way the game is going, you can make mods to change it to your liking, i know you can easily say i could do the same, but the fact of the matter is, i happen to like the direction its currently going.

Choices are all well and good - The problem is excessiveness of the rewards from the choices.
You think the game will be fun if pixel chests drop a million pixels per pot?
You could argue - its up to the player to decide how much money he or she wants to use.

Its a silly argument at best.
There is a pretty thick line between Choices and Excessiveness.
Excessiveness is not a choice - it a poor gameplay concept

Being able to make money from
Farming - Killing - Trading - Quests - Are "Choices"

Making a million from each item - and choosing "how much he or she should use out of that million" - is not a choice.
Certain people do not seem to understand that.

what you think is excessiveness, isn't too other players, that's the point I'm making, your basically just stating your opinion, which i respect, but don't agree on.

Edit* Strangely every time i respond to you, you double post, but when i refresh one post disappears, strange glitch the forums are experiencing, how weird o_O

While you can grow crop in them now, there's no guarantee that you will be able to grow crops in them later. The devs are going to redo farming, including an entire farming progression. This could mean lighting, water, and climate will all play a role, which might make all but the most basic of crops unsuited for ship farming.

I am only basing my assumptions on their current trend of Excessive Casual Gameplay mechanincs.
By making them no longer growable in ships - that would be opposite to the direction they are currently following.

Not saying - I don't think its a bad idea forcing farming on planets - especially since they fixed the Farm bug which prevents crops from growing.
But considering they are more leaning toward - over freedom - it is hard not believe you could even make rented houses in your own ship and never need a planet for anything besides loot.

    Edit -
To be clear I have no problem with Farming on ships or rental room on ships.
My issue is planets them selves are so poorly represented.

I will agree that this would be an unfortunate direction. If you can do everything on your ship (and it's been mentioned that the ship will always be "active," so stuff might grow while you're exploring the planet below), that would take away from the game. It would be much better if there was a reason not only to have a developed base on a planet, but multiple such bases scattered throughout the galaxy. I think farming is the strongest candidate for that (imagine one crop needing acid rain, while another needs completely dry growing conditions, and another needs to grow in salt water).

I'm against ship farms, I think its a darn bad mechanic. I'm even against ships being redesignable and think it would be better if all they could every have is 1-2 ship locker(s). In the past it didn't make sense because you had no home warp, but now you can quickly warp between two planets. And it solves griefing on a ship problem at the same time. Then leave the guild ships as the only redesignable ships so that becomes a huge benefit of them at the cost of only the guild leader/chosen members decide when the ship moves or what goes where.

Then if they want to add a couple of ship upgrades for space combat, okay. That could be a little mini game like terraria's events or something. Since your ship won't need crazy space (Since you can't place anything) they can be designed to look better. Since you'll know the weather beforehand, no base destruction.

If your worlds being griefed, join a guild and use the guild ship. How interesting is pvp going to be when everyone has every last item on a giant personal ship no one outside a party can reach and items don't drop?

Excited no. Glad yes. Looking forward for to this, as I am a packrat builder. I like to store stuff like a merchant ship to have what I need to build later on. That being said I also like to store a lot of other things, so I guess my ship would look more like a freighter than anything else, with a few rooms designed for a specific purpose beyond the obvious storage rooms.

For me it will just help more and more as the ship gets bigger. More space to work with on ship means more storage or another bit of space to stylize. Building an empire is never easy, but simple enough when having the space to accommodate preparations for that goal, which is a never ending process anyhow. :)

So all in all I welcome the upgrades, whether you can build farms on them or not. I will always have a use for planets and ships alike; after all that is what the home button is for, right...? Well for me it is. :D

I like the idea of farming on ships, more from a satisfaction perspective than mechanics. I'd like to make each room it's own mini-biome. But, if I'm only going to be able to farm planetside, I'll have to start thinking of how to make giant rocket boosters to turn it into a 'spaceship Earth' ~; )

I am, I hope the quest system proves to be a robust one as well. One similar to Skyrim's would do wonders for the game.
