Who copied who?

Just spending a couple of minutes on Greenlight I found another game like SB, Asteria. Taking the terraria/MC/Infiniminer concept and applying it to space is a fairly obvious idea, making it good is the hard part.

 

Aesthetically ugly, sluggish, and it genuinely looks boring. I don't fear these copies at all.

 

You simply cannot say that two games are the same when you haven't played either, and both aren't even out yet to begin with. but nonetheless i highly doubt they are the same.

 

Looks terrible, just like the others....
Edge of space, Signs of life and I asteria are all proof that graphics do matter. Starbound's graphics look awesome, while they use less.. graphics. Like, it uses 16 bit style graphics but looks tons better than the other games.
edit: What I'm trying to say is, better graphics does not equal a better looking game. Sometimes less is more. It's what you do with the graphics, and the style you use. For example a lot of multiplayer games look better on certian maps, but really ugly on other maps. The map design is very important.

 

The word youre looking for is "artstyle". starbound use a 16-bit simile artstyle and, as far as that goes, can be considered to have VERY high "graphics".
Basicly, "artstyle" is how it looks while what would be considered "graphics" is how WELL it looks in its given artstyle.
Its like some of the zelda game, they use cellshade artstyle, but its of very high quality

 

Nobody is copying! Its a genre. Why do people assume that everything is copied? Data 2 copies League of Legends, Terraria copies Minecraft and so on. God...damn, I just hate that.
On the other note:
Signs of Life looks good, i like the art style and that almost realistic human figure is pretty neat too.

 

Funny thing is if people read the OP it is actually a quote from the SOL developers explaining that it is not a clone and starbound (and thus any other game) has no special claim to design or mechanics they feature. Also the copying thing is just because it is easier for a human mind to compare something you don't know about to something you do is my guess.

 

The developer of this game has a point. If anything, isnt Starbound copying Mario because its a side scrolling platformer? nothing is completely original these days, everything is affected by previous experience

 

I cancelled my Starbound pre-order when i first saw Signs of Life. It has much higher resolution graphics - ergo - its better.

Not like this pixel shit, might as well play Super Mario World right ?

 

Then you can move along. Pixel style is much better in case of side 2D, at least on my opinion. If you don't like starbound - Why are you still here ?

 

Just because things have higher resolution doesn't mean it's better, infact it's a bit worse because of rendering and having a bad video card and processor. And for the record, any mario game was fun, graphics don't freaking matter as much as gameplay.

Why would you fear it? Starbound is not your game....also competition is good.

 

The thing is, of course, on the internet you dont have tones or facial expression but whats really aggravating is that nowadays, some people honestly, genuinely says stupid crap like that and truely mean it, which makes it hard at times to know if someone is joking or not unless they make it obvious.

So since Gouki wrote something as flame-inducing as that without any hints of it being a joke, a misunderstanding was natural and to be expected. Myself it took me a moment to consider wether he was serious or not.
Then i just thought "come on, he cant be that dumb" and just went onward.

 

Well, yes, but it seems Starbound is far more polished, not to mention it just feels visually more... consistent...

 

I try to think this now and then, but I lose faith in humanity everytime it turns out I'm wrong. And i happen to be wrong too much

 

too many people think that graphics are the defining factor in a good game, seriously get your collective heads out of your collective arses and use your senses for once.

 

Buy both. Who cares..?

Starbound looks better in my eyes, lot of aspects of that game seem clunky. It looks like even the creators struggle with the controls at times.

 

You dont understand a term "Copy" this is'nt copy at any aspect,its completely different game..

 

I remember this thread... I should check up on that game sometime soon. Ah memories.
