My posts have the venom of snakes. Yush. In all seriousness though I just put that there to explain the situation around here in the forums a lot of the time I also noticed I put a typo in there.

Fuck dude. I'm no fanboy, I can be seen on these forums often speaking against a feature or idea, and I have yet to preorder now because I'm having my doubts. I mainly come here because I like the discussions - until people like you decide to come out with your insults. Okay, so you really liked Terraria and I maybe hurt your gamer ego. Whatever. I played the game a ton until one day I realized how super mediocre and bland it is TO ME, and that I hoped someday something better would come out that retained the features I liked, dropped the art style that I disliked, and also stood on its own. Yes, Terraria stands on its own but in my opinion it could have been so much better - perhaps it's partly because they only have a few team members, I don't know. I just can't stand the game anymore.

That sounds almost exactly like something I've heard before! You must be copying someone! :sarcasm:

Its fair to start out starbounds description with similar to "terraria in space" because a lot of core mechanics seem to be similar and it at least instantly puts the idea of what it would be in someones head. He isn't trying to insult starbound by comparing it to a game that you personally disliked. Also something I think is important to note for Terraria, it was updated with a ton more content than it started out with. Terraria can be used as an example of making a game with the core mechanics down but you dont have enough content to hold a players interest. Personally after playing the original release for a while I quickly got bored of it and thought it was a mediocre game because of the lack of content. The free large updates proved to change my opinion on it and now I enjoy it.

Another fact that you need to understand is that games advance by using other games as a leapfrog. Developers take whats good from games and remove flaws and add more, polishing and improving features while adding their own.

While the comparison "terraria in space" does get the base idea going, each game have different goals and try to achieve different things. Terraria is kind of like a fantasy rpg sandbox while starbound trys stuff a little differently especially with pushing exploration a lot more. You guys need to also stop attacking eachother over your opinion of another game.

  5. Similar to starbound? That looks nothing like starbound, if anything it reminds me more of 'Edge of Space'

Of course starting your sentence with Terraria is mediocre and proceeding to insult it proves your point! My ego is very hurt!

"Maybe at some point, if Starbound ends up being really good, you'll stop referring it to a mediocre title from the past like Terraria". I feel Starbound deserves to stand on its own feet without being called "Terraria in Space" - it's way more than that. It's what Terraria could and should have been if they tried harder."

And ill just say this right now. I don't take opinions laden with insults to something else seriously and will assume you are a fan boy until proven otherwise. And you aren't proving anything by what you said

Ill take any further reply's from you in a PM. I guess talking about this respectfully and with reason is out of the question :/ . I'm still open to talking if you don't insult me though.

Since we are talking about platformers, I think Signs of Life and Starbound (Tiy worked on Terraria) are both highly influenced by Terraria. I am mainly a pc-gamer (Super Nintendo was great though), so in my opinion, Terraria was quite something new (at least on pc). The only game I thought to be similar in gameplay was "Soldat", which was a shooter without building, crafting etc.

That wasn't even a reply, genius. Just because I'm sick of Terraria and think it's mediocre does not mean that I'm suddenly therefore a Starbound fanboy. I'd love to see where the logic you employ takes you in other parts of life. I'm done talking to you until you decide to use a little bit of reason. Don't reply. I'm convinced that you're a troll that gets his jollies out of stoking fires and will treat you as such. And I don't PM trolls who already act venomous enough in public, I shudder to think how you act in a PM.

  10. Please, be nice to each other people, there's no need to start any arguments, otherwise we'll have to lock this thread down (It's a pretty dumb thread anyway, sorry to say that OP :p).
    Thanks!

I have to admit though the movement feels a bit wooden in the pictures. Still interested in it though.

EDIT: I forgot GIFs do that :/

Hey guys, I'm the coder on Signs of Life, just wanted to say that I appreciate how reasonable most of you folks are =) I'm looking forward to Starbound myself, you've gotta love block games to want to make one.

Honestly it looks more similar to edge of space and I'm not a huge fan of either. not sure what about it feels floaty and I don't dig the artstyle. I'm not at all saying either are bad games, just giving a personal opinion. I still think that starbound is going to stay my game of choice. And why not play all three? Because I only have time for one.
