Who collects and uses the musical instruments in the game?

I've amassed quite a lot of them, and could pretty much literally perform a rag-tag orchestra.. Has anyone taken part in collaborating and jamming with friends online? Does anyone use a specific combination of instruments, I'd like to know!

Musical Instruments in the game are massively underutilized or not as loved as they could be. I'd LOVE to see Chucklefish implement a travelling galactical band (of sorts) who pop up at certain places and at certain times around the galaxy and perform live music. Perhaps call them "Artisans of the Galaxy"? Remember when Blizzard did this in World of Warcraft (L70/80/90 T-ETC), with some employees? It was pretty cool. I think this would be a great idea, even if to perhaps do a competition for people to write and perform songs which suit the themes of this game kind of like the book story competition, and then the best of the bunch will get included in the game as part of this travelling performing group? Would anyone else find this to be a neat little touch?

 

I play them all the time, I must have spent about close to somewhere around 5-10 or so hours alone just playing them while I walk around a world looking for new things.

That's a nice idea, but I would prefer having NPCs that you could make play certain music along side you. Maybe have a colony NPC type that spawns with an instrument, you can tell it what song to play from your selection of songs. Either it could play alone or you could play alongside with it, potentially creating your own 'band' with more NPCs.

It'd help for people like me that don't really have people to play music with. And having more people playing the same music makes things sound so much more nicer with all the instruments.

Then again I don't know how hard the technical limitations for that would be, so eh. I'd take your idea any day too. More Music related things is always nice.

They sit in the ship locker with other rare items gathering dust...

 

I don't know where I'd go without my precious guitar. Half the time I play Starbound, it's normally me and a group of friends just chatting while playing music to eachother, simply because we CAN.

And it's little touches like this which make Starbound awesome. Does the music help you in any way, shape or form? Not really. Is it really fun? Definitely.

I just wish most of the instruments weren't so ear-piercingly loud. Literally only the guitar and bass guitar I like to play, simply because the other instruments start to hurt my ears after a while.

 

I agree. I actually made a suggestion in the suggestions sub with a similar idea a couple days ago! As OceansRising said, my instruments sit in my locker collecting dust, but I really wish they were place-able as decorations! Wouldn't it be sweet if we could at least have a music room? SJunior's idea is exactly what I asked for with my suggestion. I want npc's to play for me! xan713, I am a composer and I really want to have an orchestra full of npc's to play some of my large ensemble pieces, but I don't play multiplayer (yet) so I've never had a chance to make it happen.

It just seems like they put so much work into the instruments (with abc's etc) and I wish, kind of like wiring, they would go the extra mile by making them decoratives instead of locker-filler, and even better, make it so my colony can JAM! Let's keep our fingers crossed.

 

Instruments should get a equitable spot on the character like a secondary backpack

There's a lot of stuff I'd like to see usable as decor items, from instruments to food to armor to weapons. I'm thinking a placeable "wall hanger" item, a simple 1x1 tile wall-hook, that you E-key interact with then place a weapon or instrument in the pop-up one-slot inventory window. Maybe have a toggle on the window for vertical/horizontal alignment. Then BAM, instant hanging weapon or instrument.

 

I installed Never Gonna Give You Up into my Starbound music file so I'll play it with my Microphone.

None of my friends like me anymore and refuse to play.

Another good idea and I just came up with with while reading is is later on down the road they could do quests where you go play music to someone. Also you could play music for a small amount of pixels. Oh and just came up with this in some of those quests the npcs give you music as a reward
