I think it merely bothers some people that other peoples' "ideal world" has no people of color in it. It certainly concerns me. Would the people requesting these whitewashing mods prefer to have no racial diversity in the real world too? That's pretty scary tbh.

 

This is no different from the mods that make every character anime looking, or completely different characters from other games like pokemon. Personally I'm not physically attracted to black people, but why make a post like this that seems so...defensive? If you want a mod that will replace maru with another girl...just say so? Dont make it a weird racial issue when it isnt. I mean, for fucks sake, there's a bronies/furries thread.

After reading the replies here...I don't get why some people are so against this and take it as a personal insult. It's a game... where the marriage candidates are all girls/guys you'd like to date.

 

incorrect. this is just a response to those who want to change white characters to nonwhite characters.

personally...i don't care what race a character has. all i care about is their character.

FINAL FANTASY 7. my favorite character? Barret. he is black. why do i like him? he is an adoptive father. he cares about the ecosystem. he is a good guy. and he is a bit of a badass.

the reason i asked for it so people can get it without getting bullied by jerks who think its a good thing to harass someone for wanting a change of skin tone on some FICTIONAL character.
if someone can request a change of race on a white character... but not nonwhite to white...that is hypocritical. PERIOD. END OF STORY!

i am just trying to help people who want more white characters so they don't have to be bullied.

And... before I get hated on, My best friend is ironically a black dude. I'm a white girl. I, in no way, hate black or ethnic people. I just think people are taking a video game way too fucking seriously.

I would think it's okay to change a white character because most characters, in most games, are already white. And maybe someone is playing this game that they can change the appearances of and they're like, wow, I can make some that look more like me or something. I mean, every other character in the town is basically white, I don't exactly feel sorry for someone if they're put off by one or two non-white characters and feel the need to change them. They have everyone else to choose from. You're trying to be a hero for something that people don't need and that seemingly someone isn't asking for. It comes off more like you're upset if a mod is changed to be non-white, which is kind of your own issue. Or maybe you have a hero complex? I don't know, but this whole thing just seems kind of ridiculous. Not that I'm going to change your view, I'm sure, so I'm probably mostly ranting for myself, haha.

i like violent games. like fallout. i love the gore and mayhem. does that mean i actually want a nuclear holocaust? NO! i am a pacifist in real life. and i HATE blood and gore in real life as well.

 

I honestly wouldn't have a problem with an all black mod or an all hispanic mod etc. I dont get why people are hating on Qtw, aside from his poor presentation of the issue. But it legitimately seems like people have some anger for the mod idea.

third. i am perfectly fine with maru being black. heck i plan on marrying her in game. the color of her skin doesnt matter to me.
fourth. are you racist against whites? if it is okay to change a white character to black but not vice versa...isnt that being a hypocrit?

 

Personally, it's the fact that most of the town is already white, so it seems petty to have to change the two characters that aren't. And as for an all POC town, I don't have so much problem with it because a game world like that doesn't really exist that often or at all, so I can imagine wanting something like that for themselves. While every other game has a lot of white characters, so I don't know why you would feel the need to? I mean, I myself like if there is a mix as opposed to just one race for everyone, but I can see why an all POC town might appeal to someone that hasn't seen a game like that.

 

if the base game was had all the characters being not white...i would still play the game. i'd still like and support it.
the problem i have with race changing mods isnt the mod itself. its the people who act like being white is being born evil. its stupid.

But that is a personal opinion. I'm fighting devils advocate, despite the fact I also would never use an all-white mod (too much work). I also think Maru is a qtpie. But that doesn't change the fact that Qtw is getting a whole lot of hate for the idea. So what if he wants all white characters? some people want all half-lizard half female characters, It's a mod, not a lifestyle.

 

1- The mod OPs removed the mods of their own accord, and to my knowledge they are both still providing their mods via pm.
2- Freedom of speech is about the government not being able to arrest people for saying things and does not apply to private property. Chucklefish is not obligated to host anyone under freedom of speech laws.
3- If the mods do not violate forum rules we don't remove them. The only mods we have removed (to my knowledge, we've had a lot of mods in a very short amount of time so I may not be aware of all changes) have been the sexually inappropriate mods.
4- The mod OP can still upload mods to the mod nexus if Chucklefish will not host it -- you will find this is already true for other Chucklefish games.
5- I will not hesitate to lock this thread if you can't be civil about discussing this issue. Calling each other names, like what happened in the last thread (SJW/bigot/racist/etc count as names. You may disrespect opinions but not people), counts as a violation of forum rules and will not be tolerated. I will also be much less lenient on rule violation points because of the previous thread. Consider that one your first warning and this one your last chance.

As much as been up and around the internet, I have yet to see people who act as though white people or born evil as oppose to the people who believe that poc as evil and primal.

 

You might have to accept that you will be associated with "wanting" it. As I assume I will be, simply for arguing against some people saying it is racist/unnecessary. I used you as an example, because it was easiest and the most relevant. I guess I could say some future people that might want it.

 

Oh my gosh, please let me tell you about how important representation is. Honestly, I'll do it nicely because I really want you to know. I think it's so important. So I'm a girl who's 5'11, but girls are always supposed to be shorter and smaller than boys, or at least that's what we're generally shown/taught. I really, honestly thought I was a freak until I watched an anime when I was 14 about a girl who was really tall. See, there was a tall girl represented in that show. Representation taught me that it's okay to be me. It shouldn't be one's only source of confidence, of course, but when you find a character you can identify with, whether it's because of race, height, personality, interests, etc., it really means a lot. I guess that if people are trying to edit Maru to be white, they don't need black representation in their game. But representation is important, so please don't say it isn't. If you aren't a minority, you probably see yourself represented a lot and you don't realize it, but some people get little or no representation, especially in things like video games. I'm done posting here, just please please don't doubt the power of representation.

 

Your self-worth was based on an anime you saw when you were 14? You might have larger issues at hand... I'm a 6ft girl and I didn't have to watch an anime to show me that being tall is okay....
While I will agree representation in society is important, especially for minorities the point is moot because minorities are represented in the original, vanilla game. Anyone who adds a mod that takes out the minorities is not doing them any injustice because only the modder will see an all white character selection. Please get off your high horse.
