Bug/Issue White box error?

Hey so I just bought Stardew Valley and whenever I start playing at some point a lot of boxes cover the entire screen, like so:

This usually occurs either while my character is walking around or I enter a building. I keep having to restart my game because I can't figure out where I'm going, is there any way to fix this?

 

I usually just hit the Windows key (opens start menu) to go out of the game to the desktop then re-open it by clicking the icon on the task bar for the still running game. Others have cited alternate ways to get around this. Steam forums for the game has a thread for bugs that goes into more detail.
