Which one?

Hey guys! I need to know, on this planet I have found three tech : HumanMech, GravityBubble and ButterflyBoost. I can only use one as I already have three others I'm not prepared to lose. So guys, which one should I choose?

 

You can use all of them, you switch them out using the console near the front (right) of your ship.

 

Gravity Bubble is always nice. The HumanMech isn't very good, and in higher sectors is useless. I've never seen the Butterfly Boost.

 

Gravity Bubble / Butterfly Boost > Mechs

Mechs can't jump very high, they like do no damage in comparison to higher tier guns/etc. (Which by the way, those guns? Yeah, you can use them while floating with bubble/butterfly.)

Also, butterfly/gravity boost makes you immune to telepathic smashes I believe.

 

Unless things have changed, the human mech is worthless, the gravity bubble is just for lifting you up, and butterfly boost will let you hover quickly in any direction. So, butterfly boost.

Butterfly Boost is a weaker version of Bubble Boost. I think it's about 50% as "good" in terms of energy usage, and Bubble Boost is also faster.

Example: In my under-lava tunnel, it took 7 full Butterfly Boosts to travel across the planet. This would be holding down jump and just flying, then regenerating full energy before using again. It took 3 full Bubble Boosts to travel the same tunnel.

I haven't used Gravity Bubble before, nor Human Mech, but I do not hear good things about Human Mech unless you like slumming on Alpha Sector planets.

Unless you have Bubble Boost, I would recommend using Butterfly Boost.

 

Butterfly boost is a speed of 30 at 115 energy per second, bubble boost is a speed of 40 at 140 energy per second. Just for technical comparison.

 

I can't brain right now (they pay me to work, not to think), but I think that your numbers mean that Bubble Boost requires more energy per second, yet is still more efficient for speed:energy ratio when held down. Also, much more useful in open areas, where you can just tap it and get the main speed boost without worrying about energy usage.

Maybe they've changed the values since Angry Koala, since it really did take twice as many full uses of Butterfly Boost to travel the same distance. I did about 10 tests with each. Yes, it took a long time. No, I don't recommend building a 4-block-high tunnel under the lava to cover halfway around a planet, just so you can build a village underneath the lava. Not until they implement changed spawn points and stargates.

It took a LOT of traveling between my ship and the village, to really set it up.

 

Butterfly boost is what I use good for fast travel.
