    I've changed my answer

Better to have more information than less, particularly in the case of meters that can end with you dead when they run out.

  2. Bandethor

    Bandethor Pangalactic Porcupine

I like B for the smiley face

  3. Katboy99

    Katboy99 Poptop Tamer

This is probs too late, but oh well.
I like the smiley face in A, but B seems to be ALOT better.

I'm clearly late to the vote here, but in the end, hopefully UI is at least semi-customizable. I cast my vote for A for the visuals and lack of cluttered "Vitals Corner"; however I would want all bars (aside from standard health / energy) to only appear when is necessary.

Most of this hinges on the fact that I personally really dislike a large cluster of bars permanently visible. 2 is plenty.

Perhaps have food bar show up when the player is hungry, or when the player is eating / attempting to eat food items, but fade away. Temp and Breath are definitely situational, and don't need to be on the screen at all times.

However, as it stands, I'd prefer Option A, as it keeps all the extra information away from the core Health / Energy.

I know I'm in the minority, but I kinda like option A's aesthetic. It's rather neat :3

I like the design of A more, but why not make it an option in the menu which layout to use?

B is definitely a better choice, it would (I imagine) be more helpful for reminding you when it gets critical, rather than having the display in A on at all times, and only realising at the last moment that you're out of breath/heat exhausted.

  8. Sn0wbl7nd

    Sn0wbl7nd Seal Broken

B is more dynamic in my opinion and I find it less distracting than option A

Why we can't choose when we play?
If you like A you can go to Options and choose the the A Bars. If you like B you can choose the B Bars.
And Maybe we can have C Bars, that doesn't show anything in the screen, unless you're getting hungry, cold...drowning... etc...

Option A because from my gaming experience, having a long-term bar along important bars with messes with my ability to judge if I'm low on health/energy without glancing at it. Also, the hunger bar will typically stay rather constant so I think it should be closer to the edges of the screen.

If I had to propose another option, i think that Temperature and hunger should be like STALKER. Bars are only viewable in the Inventory screen, but when one stat is running low, an icon appears along with buffs or debuffs. The color shows the emergency level : Green meaning it's not full, red meaning do your prayers.

In this screenshot, the two important icons are top-left under the map and at the right.
The Yellow flame option is simply a warning telling me I'm in a hot zone and taking damage. The three green icons means my armor and helmet need repairs - green means they're at half durability so still at half efficiency. If they were broken, the icons would be red. There are also a handful of other icons that are not shown (Hunger, weapon durability, etc) because I'm fed and my weapon is shiny new. The Radioactivity sign is a little special : It's not visible on the image, but ingame it's blinking (like Bleeding if I'm bleeding) because I'm permanently taking damage until I cure it. Again, green means that the damage is on par with my regen meaning my health shouldn't move. If it was red, my health would be drained in less than a minute and it would be blinking real fast.

Of course those icons are only reminders. If I want to see precisely how bad the situation is, I only have to open my inventory to see the bars with much more precise values. Not shown are the buff icons - they would appear above the quickbar along with an icon telling me what the buff is.

B, so that I won't die from hunger because I usually look to the top corner.

I have to say I think option B looks the best. Option A does have and interesting style, but I think having it at the bottom could possibly be a little too distracting (maybe if the bar was rotated 90 degrees and positioned to the left of the screen).

I enjoy A for the DOOM feel with the smiley, but maybe fade out those other bars on the side too? Or give it an option in the menu for fade.

B, i find it looks better

  15. Italy

    Italy Master Chief

I prefer B and it seems to be a majority favorite. However, it looks like the little face at the bottom of the A screen would be dynamic and eventually look ill or hurt if the temperature goes down and hunger runs out. I really like that idea and have a small suggestion:
Perhaps the character face at the top left could be dynamic in the same way? But if it changes based on what helmet you wear, that might not be possible... Who knows? Just a two-second thought that came across my mind.

just a reminder for this page, this topic is old and the decision has likely been made, still feel free to discuss which you would like and how it should be done.

I'm always on the losing side of these. I think option A is a bit more elegant on the screen.

actually now that I think about it idk if anyone else has said it already but why not just add an option in the menu to select which ever your prefer

It was said a lot, it's a popular answer to most of Tiy's "which do you like" threads (at least this one and the dirt one). XP
