Which NPCs did your opinions change on during the game?

For better or for worse.

For me, it's Lewis and Pierre, both of whom I kinda liked early on and then got really angry with. Lewis, for the way he treats Marnie and how his job seems to be as much ego trip as sincere duty. Pierre, for Abigail's 6-heart cutscene, because bullying anyone, especially your own kid, into reactionary gender roles makes me see red like nobody's business. I still give him two thumbs up for his speech during the community center cutscene, though.

Conversely, I developed some real sympathy for Shane, because depression is (literally) a killer. George also grows on me, grumpy old bugger though he is.

I haven't seen close to all NPC cutscenes yet, so I don't know if my favorites (pretty much Leah, Abigail, Linus, Robin, Demetrius and Maru) will make me upset with them at some point, or if the ones I dislike (mainly Alex and Haley) will surprise me positively.

 

Haley. She was extremely rude and shallow at the start, yet as I held my nose and played social niceties, there was a real person under the pink frosting. The in-game icebreaker was her gifting me a long-coveted tea set one Feast of the Winter Star-- though I know that's just the RNG at work, of course, but I'm too much of a role-player not to go along with it as her attempting an apology for her behaviour. In the end, we became friends, and though I never considered her as a marriage candidate, she's a pretty good person.

 

Haley, hands down, no question about it. I went from "do not care about her at all" to "I absolutely love her" as the game went on and I saw more of her cutscenes. She is just the cutest thing
Shane is another one, went from being just an a-hole to a lovable guy with serious problems.

 

Shane of course showed a lot more than all we knew when first meeting him when the game was officially released, George and Alex surprised me Demetrius sort of he's still an over protective father that allows his intelligence to interfere with his social skills..still kind of like him of course lol. Pierre just reminds me of Won I think it was from Harvest moon money hungry, you understand why yes but still. Even Sebastian he wasn't so bad really but he really warms up to you I like a lot of them don't care for Haley considering how she is, no real issues but a spoiled brat that could stand to be a little more like her sister. Yeah I see why some people like her but seeing some bitter characters change for the better, even Pam is actually a loving mother for all her faults, that have their own issues but she doesn't have to do anything except clean under the cushions she has people who care about her, she is pretty but still..I'm not so forgiving when nothing is there for me.

 

It has to be Haley for me. Once she fell off the cow I was sold.

 

In a good way, Haley. At first I was like omg she's so preppy get away from me. But now we tight.

In a bad way, Shane. I saw him and thought, what a nice guy, I'm gonna go introduce myself. He was all "I don't know you, why are you talking to me?"
Yeah okay no. Time to hit you with rocks while you're working at Joja. (You can do that )

 

Shane. If I was told to introduce myself to everyone in a town that I just moved into and he introduced himself to me the way he did, I probably would have called him out right there and maybe goad him into a fight. He has his reasons for being the way he is, but the first impression is almost everything. However, all it took for me to like him was his first heart event; I realized he's kind of like a reflection of how a majority of people were at least once in their life. People normally hate in others what they hate in themselves, but I liked him more because I understood. If Shane were a real person and I could get past that initial greeting, I'm sure we'd be decent friends. As bad as it would be to lose a drinking buddy, I'd be happy to see him turn his life around.

Edit: this game has some really awesome character development.

 

But Haley does lose her bratty attitude and mature quite a bit. She definitely has the biggest change in character from 0 hearts to 10 hearts of all the bachelor(ette)s.

 

Haley for sure. She was kinda a b at the beginning but now she's one of my most favorite characters in the game.

Shane's opinion i wouldnt say changed but more, i went from really wanting to raise his hearts just cause he was a mean person to shane is my second favorite person in the game.

George. George came off as a grumpy old man but now i see he's a lovable cinnamon bun grumpy old man. He's the best.

 

For me it's probably Haley & Alex, turning away from their self-centered ways, becoming more friendly and open to new things and the farmer
George and Shane are definitly on the list too but the biggest change of heart was with Harvey and Elliot. Since their original Portrait Designs aren't that appealing to me, I didn't pay much attention to them at first (superficial, I know).. They turned out to be so sweet and caring though that I couldn't help myself and had to put a ring (and a new portrait) on it

 

yeah I saw her events but she's still just brat because she chooses to be, not like the others who have issues to get over that's why I don't like her, and still plan to marry her to divorce her for her sister, then I won't dislike her anymore...heh. I don't know I think Shane had the biggest change, jerk, revealing suicidal feelings and self hatred, going to a rather loving and helpful husband. Stands out more to me, besides I never could like Regina George and many other fictional...and real life ladies like her and she's the RG of this game lol.

 

But she's not Regina George of Stardew Valley. She is to begin with, but not in the "end".
I can't stand those types of people either, which is why I didn't care about Haley to begin with. But damn if she didn't make me change my mind after that 8-heart scene and with the various lovable dialogue she has with more hearts and especially after you marry her

There's no one I really DISLIKED, but my opinions definitely went all over the place and taught me that you can't always trust your first impressions in this game, hehe.

I'll get the big one out of the way first: None of the marriage candidates appealed to me at first, which means I also didn't like Sebastian. I remember going through all of them, and going, "great, there's a jock, some romance novel dude, a frickin doctor, etc." and Sam was the one I thought was the nicest. The last one I met was Sebastian, actually! I always thought the emo stereotype was pretty lame since I like a lot of things that could be classified by such but it'd be literally the last thing I'd call myself. I've also had bad experiences with ppl of these stereotypes but I won't go into that, lmao. Sebastian was definitely the cutest to me out of all the bachelors though so I decided to see where his events would go, and my opinion of him instantly changed after the 2 heart event since it became immediately apparent that his characterization was not going down that stereotypical road. During this time, I was also struggling with several social issues (one of them being about my introversion as well) and learning about Sebastian hilariously helped me learn about myself, too. Sebastian has proven time and time again why he's my favorite, and it also allowed me to be open with the other NPCs as well and give them more chances! Alex has also become one of my favorite bachelors for this reason.

As for characters like Shane and Haley, I never disliked them but I was never crazy about them. Partially for Shane, it was the overhype about him, and it was mostly because you gotta get the dude to like, what, past 4 hearts before he's nice to you (a little too much effort for me.) Then it's practically impossible to get Haley's affection up too much since SHE'S IGNORING YOU HALF THE TIME. But, after a lot of art exposure to them and just hearing how they are, I've become more comfortable with them and have warmed up a bit. If someone's spouting flames about them, I will probably speak in their defense, but otherwise I'm not really in love with them.

At first I really liked Clint and thought he was sweet if not kinda sad, but my opinion of him has slowly declined. He comes across as a little whiny to me the more I talk to him, so I hope he gets some decent development. I don't really want to see him as whiny, but... yea

Pierre was definitely my least favorite. I didn't feel like I should root for him, because he seemed as slimy as Morris, except he was just part of a mom and pop store rather than some corporation. In the stash event, I absolutely told him his wife deserves to know, but like that would do much since it seems like Pierre and Caroline keep a gigantic amount of secrets from each other (which I don't like x_x). When I completed the community center (spoilers obviously) I opted Pierre to NOT punch Morris because I didn't think he deserved to do such a thing. If anything, I was the one who should get to Punch Morris!! I should PUNCH THEM BOTH! BRUHHRGHHG. But, after getting Pierre high enough hearts, I like him a little more. I at least like when he DOESN'T talk about his freaking store. Learning about him with opera was pretty cool.

 

lol be still my evil stone heart , my sword of no like will be put to rest after, I'm starting a second file so I can do that, I used to feel bad for Clint but Emily and Marnie worry about him, Emily has a couple nice lines for him, he's included by some of the others Willy always sits with him and when you're an rp sort of player you would think they're friends and he always has someone to talk to over a beer. I saw Emily's clothing therapy scene and he runs back in saying he doesn't want to come out of his shell and assumes the married farmer is hooking up with her. I guess the events wouldn't be changed by marriage but again rp playing she was just talking to me and then congratulates her before going to mope. He's build this idea that no one cares often wondering why he's even in Pelican town despite that he's a part of a community and still won't even try, that is to say I don't dislike him as much as I could but he doesn't own Em and I will marry her anyways

Actually I think I'm harder on Haley because of Em, she's such a sweet pea, they're sisters her parents ran off too but she cares more about keeping the house paid for and cleaned she cooks for her picky eater sister which I dislike since I'm a foodie and she cares so much about the town, it's people, and the animals around it. She's also nicer and how can I not have dislike for her sister who ignores me. She's the only moody character who does that, Pam I guess has an excuse because she's usually out of it at the bar from drinking so much.

My husband is reading the steam forums and was able to get a second pendant without divorcing anyone and he's given both Haley and Emily a bouquet he proposed to Emily and he wants to propose to Haley too his words were that he likes Em for her personality and he likes Haley for her body....lol

 

It's interesting that one of my two least favourites has in fact won a lot of people over in the end. Maybe this time around I'll see more of her events and change my mind about her a bit, too.

 

Yeah, Haley was definitely the biggest one. She went from "I don't give a crap about her, I'm just doing this for the achievement(s) and my completionist nature" to "TOTALLY WORTH DOING IT, JESUS WHY WAS SHE HIDING THAT UNDER THE BRATTY AND PREPPY EXTERIOR?!" for me.

 

Since I have not really seen all the events... cut-scenes that is... My opinion has remained the same for just about everyone so far. Maybe loving each the candidates more as I see scenes for, but I have not seen them all just yet. Sooo for the most part my initial opinion of each stuck. I like the townsfolk, as each has their perks and quirks. I don't really see my opinion changing much beyond what I already think of them, unless they are a candidate; in which case I would be more likely to grow to love them even more.

 

I would have to say Gus and Elliot. My feelings towards Gus were absolutely neutral until his cutscene with Linus. I thought he was a genuinely good person after that and like talking to him frequently. With Elliot, I really thought he would be a pompous, self-centered guy (it's the hair), but he turned out to be pretty laid back and sweet. After seeing his heart events I even briefly considered divorcing Harvey, lol . But probably not, his 10-heart event was the best ever! Which actually makes me think I changed my mind about him, too. He was my first choice from the very start, but his dialogue was soooo boring, with him talking about my health all the time. But when I saw his room, and after his heart events - I was sold.
