I submit that we need a craftable cosmetic item that looks like the iconic Browncoat that Mal wears on Firefly. I'm sure a mod could be made, but I propose to have it in game as an official piece of clothing in Starbound. If nothing else but to show tribute to the show we know and love. Oh? and why shouldn't we? What show has an awsome outfit you would like to wear? Think about it, you add in a few pixelized mock ups of some outfits from a few shows and hide them as the 1% drop blueprints, think of the excitement you would have opening a chest and finding the "Big Damn Hero" Coat. (or any other of countless possibilities. Making a shoutout to things that inspire you shouldn't be about "Well what about all those other shows!" Besides it's not like there aren't Pikachu masks already >.> why does pokemon get a shoutout but not the best space opera ever made!? And dont forget Ryze's Scroll is already in there too.
The point is, I love you guys, but you can't just say "I want X because X is from Y and Y is my favourite Z." If the devs implemented half of the suggestions that the community spewed out, then this would be more of a containment game than anything else. And I do not want this to be the new Minecraft for furries and fanentites.
I just thought that since all those other shows were getting shoutouts why can't I suggest one I wanted in hope that it might possibly make it in? I don't see anything wrong with being a fan of something >.>... which kinda proves your first point in an opposite kinda way. I know I see it in some of the examine text. But again, no reason to not voice what I'd love to see. I edited the other post btw. But yeah, I'm not saying "add it or I'll hate this game!" or anything like that. I just wanted to voice something I'd like to see =)
Yeah I would like to make a big point of that! Just cause you are a minority, even tho you know the odds are against you, doesn't mean you can't be heard! I love Starbound, and when it's done I'll love it even more. When it comes to a game based on the ability of one to imagine bigger, better, crazier! The sky is quite literally the limit, and my friend... You can't take the sky from me!
For the time being, I made a mod https://www.dropbox.com/s/cy8wqp88tvuu5rl/mal.zip drop the "mal" folder into *Starbound\assets\items\armors\decorative* and you're done. the outfit comes in two parts, the flappy tail is part of the trousers, so they'll look weird without the top half. To make them, drop a torch in a furnace for the top, and two wood (planks) for trousers. Silly recipe, but the item doesn't have any special qualities, so it's just a vanity item Let me know if there's any issues with it.
I think a long brown coat looks great anyways, so why not? The fact that it's from a great sci-fi show is just sugar on top. Best way to get this into the game; do the devs work for them. Make a big mod-pack with tons of props/clothes from the show and if it gets enough of a response then you can politely place it on Chucklefishes desk. They can then pick what they think will work from the pack rather than having to divert resources to making it themselves. This seems to be how they do things; rails, toxic planets, asteroids fields, etc etc. are all picked from player-made content so you have a good chance of making this a reality.
Don't forget to include the red variation he wore on the Halloween episode of Castle. That was just as awesome.
That wasn't red it was the same jacket. Nathan Fillion stole like half the props from Firefly . It's THE jacket.
