Where will you settle (or will you even settle at all?)

I'm excited for the ship upgrading/customization. Maybe when we can finally get NPCs aboard a ship can feel like a decent home with family-esque vibe.

 

I'd probably be using my ship as my home. Bearing in mind you can upgrade it also, it seems like it'd be fun, plus it'll go with my idea of my character being a Time Lord If it seems impractical though, I'll probably find a world I like and set up base there.

 

I'll shelter here and there as I look for a good home and also while I gather supplies to Terraform my new home to my liking.

 

I'll hunt down an Ocean or Frozen Ocean world before setting up shop for good.

 

I've been thinking about that, and not to sound like a downer, but there's really no point as far as I can tell of choosing to make a home out of any one planet. At least not for now. Later on, when modding or updates make terraforming and growing communities a real thing you can do, then yeah I'll pick some random Rose Tree forest planet to make a home out of, but as for the foreseeable future, a bed and some treasure chests on my ship are about as comfy as I'll get to any one place.

I can't wait to play the game Starbound will eventually become.

 

I'm going to be very nomadic. If I can spend one heap of time really digging in and making my character built to survive, I will have a ball just messing around and exploring.

The game makes you want to see more and more, so I can't see myself staying in one place.

Knowing how OCD I am though, I won't let myself leave a planet until every rock is turned.

 

there's no advantage to setting up a base in only one spot. there is a limit on what you can do on any one planet. however, once the game gets more settled and things like trading are implemented (if that's even planned), and you're on a server with a bunch of people, it would make more sense to have one planet where people can go to find you. but even if that's the case it's probably easier for everyone to pick one planet to put all their permanent stuff on and then go to other planets for resources or whatever else they're looking for. I plan on setting up crude dwellings when i touch down on a planet just to have a place to heal. but once i'm done with a planet i will most likely never travel there again. if there are truly as many planets as the devs say, i could visit a different planet every time i play the game and never run out of new planets to visit.

 

I'm probably going to turn my spaceship into my main base, but then find a planet I really like and set myself up a nice cottage/mansion.

 

A nice desert for a permanent "Home".
A flat forest planet for large agriculture, i can visit it occasionally to pick up the ready crops in bulk, to secure a food supply to last a while.
And of course if i find a very rich moon with "Huge gold deposits" or something, of course a mining outpost will be permanent, even after i mine it out as a reminder (aside from the huge scars left in the landscape lol)

 

I'm gonna keep searching until I find the perfect world for a main base/house/whatever, but I'll probably set up small outposts on just about every planet I visit, just to have somewhere to sleep if I ever feel like coming back...

 

I agree. It seems most logical to have small encampments on planets intended for resource consumption. Perhaps one day a citadel will be built on a new homeworld. Also, sleep. Who sleeps?

 

I'm going to have so many characters that I'll be doing some of everything on all of them. One of them is going to stay on a single planet. One will be hopping across the universe leaving behind temporary bunkers or campsites.

One thing to take into consideration though is the cost of light travel. If it's particularly expensive (it probably will be in the early game) then that will impact people's decisions about how much they travel, which will impact how long they spend on planets, which changes how important building bases is.

 

Going to be nomad most def. Home is going to be considered ship for me.

 

On the prowl for the worst toxic and dangerous living conditions I can find.

I need a planet that wants anything that can walk on it to die painfully. I want to tame that planet.

 

I will be nomadic until I find the "perfect" planet.

I will even grow my food on the ship.

 

I'll probably make a base near one of the NPC town things as a main base and might put some basic things on my ship for trips away from the planet I choose to settle on.

 

Can we build more onto our ships? I'm thinking of pulling a Brainiac thing if we can and building a massive ship that goes from planet to planet stripping them of resources and nutrients.

 

I'm building a huge house that I'll dedicate most of my building blocks to then have small (15-minute) houses on most planets that I visit.
