Where is the SCIFI in this game? (And I want a molten core)

Started the tutorial quests and after 2 hours of very tedious mining for metals I finally got the beacon placed and instantly got bombed by the penguins.

From what I can tell so far, the molten core is needed to get out of the medieval tech level and it someone told me its a dropped item from these tutorial quests.

    But here is the problem.

I REFUSE to spend a few hours more grinding low tech items (basically playing terraria inside starbound) so I can kill a flying saucer with bows and swords.

Is that molten core an item you can obtain in other ways? Because if not then this whole tutorial quest setup is a collosal design flaw. When I bought this game I expect amazing sci fi and the first few minutes on the ship are like that. I am surrounded by hi tech gear, there is a sense of wonder.

But then I go down onto the planet and its pure lame grinding for minerals like in terraria. Very dissapointing to be stuck for several hours being kept away from all things sci fi.

I have flown to other planets (after the tutorial fails to tell you that you can actually fuel your ship with coal and wood) but it is the same situation. I am stuck hunting for basic things and I cant get past the crafting table because of a missing molten core.

Did you do like ANY research before buying this game?

This is entirely your own fault.

No, the fault lies with you for giving idiotic responses and with the developers, who force several hours of the most primitive terraria grinding onto a player to get past a tutorial boss to get to the advertised SCIFI and exploration in a supposedly SCIFI game about nonlinear sandbox and exploration.

SKIP THE FKING PENGUIN and just give players a molten core from the start.

Perhaps the tutorial has a fault in the massive leap it presents. The trick is not to immediately go for the bossfight. Do some exploring rather than mining, and uncover some epic loot. When you feel that you're ready for the fight, then you can begin looking for resources.

  5. I don't understand how you're being kept away from all things sci fi when you start out on a space ship, you can leave that planet as soon as you have enough fuel on your SPACESHIP and you've probably seen a few ALIENS and been shot at by a laser or two by now.

If that jank ain't sci fi, Idk what you were expecting.

Yes, everyone should make games for you specificly. Every game that you buy should be adjusted to your needs.

This entire genre of games are designed around gathering resources to progress. Your request is just silly.

    Few facts:

"Planet of the Apes" is Science Fiction.

This game is in early Beta.

The UFO will be a high-tier boss in the finished game but is simply one of the few that are done so far, as confirmed by the devs in another thread.

It's in BETA which means it isn't finished yet! Lots of stuff will be added, and changes. Maybe this system changes. And you bought the game.

Have you ever heard of Star Ocean? It's scifi, and yet they have melee weapons and under developed planets. No? How about Rogue Galaxy? Swords and guns, starships, aliens. Not every science fiction has to be hight tech space opera. And as stated above me, it is in beta, a lot of things will change and nobody is gating you from anything. This version is not for playing from beginning to end, but to iron out bugs, implement and show features.. and to stop public riots because people wanted to play this for two years now.

My plan now is to look for loot on different planets and find things that are more hi tech.

But what some people here do not understand, especially the "do your research before buying" idiot:

All the research I have to do is to look at the games frontpage: space ship, alien planets, aliens. Now the initial shock when I saw the beacon requirements: loads of iron and copper. And then I had to play this like terraria. And terraria was fun for me for like 2 weeks. And then you get greeted by a near unkillable boss (my bow does 2 damage on the saucer).

So there is that. I will refuse to mine a single rock until that penguin is dead, I will wander around on planet surfaces and try to find loot that can help against it. Because I play this for exploration and SCIFI, not for digging with fking MEDIEVAL pickaxes and torches.

Mind you it is not the difficulty that is frustrating, it is being forced to use medieval tools. (after beaming down from a space ship with warp drive)

  15. If that is all the research you have to do then you shouldn't be too upset about what was presented to you. Not only is the game in early access as a beta, but there are troves of information on details of the game on reddit and this forum and probably other places too. I'm not even being mean, just being honest.

If they gave you the high-tech stuff right away, what incentive would there be to build up? The whole technological progress element is sort of the game's main form of progress.

Best would be to just close such threads without further comment. No one can take this serious and it just places something negativ in here. This game was designed to have a progression to it and you normaly don't make some beam weapons out of wood and stone if your stranded somewhere.

Maybe you should try and get stranded on a desolated island and the show me how you'll pull our current tech out of your pockets. Try something simple as making some kind of radio.

The point is...even the most advanced civilization would basicly start in the stone age if the are stranded somwhere without anything. So the progression isn't unrealistic. It's even far easier than it would be in real life.

And there is your problem right there, you are fickle with a short attention span. What you need is a shoot shoot fighter, or "a different game" because this simply isn't your genre.
The game JUST came out into early beta, a lot of shit is missing, not everything is implemented, and by the black wind, fire, and steel you are a fool for thinking that everything would be ready right off the bat, even after the devs have made their posts about the beta stages (This being the first stage with the most missing features and the most bugs).
Go read a book and quit your bitching until you have something constructive to say, other than
"WAAAAH WAAH THEY SHOULD JUST GIV MEH ALL DE ITEMS AT TEH START, I WANT LAZ0RZ NOAW! WAAAAH I DONT HAVE TIME TO VIDEOGAEM"

The irony here is that it takes like only an hour or two's work to get to the point where you can start trying to hit up level 7-8 planets, where you CAN find laser weapons. And even less than that to hunt around level 4-5 planets for rare mobs who will drop weapons that make fire/poison/electrical attacks.

Which is why I agree with your summary of said complaint.
