Probably Steam, but they don't know, I hope it can be bought form there website, like Minecraft, but who knows?

Hopefully directly by website. Steam is semi-shady to me :ninja: But I really hope it will have a chance of being in stores!

I think an ongoing steam released would bring interest to the table! I think that eventually this game can be bought as a bundle with Terraria!
~ Just spewing ideas out there!

Steam opens up the oppertunity for the game to even be launched and be brought to the fans much sooner than a game normally would be, as with many Indie games, to keep you program updated easily and to make sure players accounts are tracked and their purchase is more likely to be verified without the devs having to make and track their own launcher/account system. Which would slow down release.

    Indeed,
So as an experienced user of Steam do you think the game would really be released faster? I mean Steam wouldn't speed up how fast the can sprite or program right?
    ~ Just thinking aloud!

Not the game completion in general. But if the devs had to deal with creating an encrypted account/purchase tracking system, buying, setting up and running a server that tracks user accounts and also taking care of legal issues such as purchaser account privacy, correct tax transferring per country, per state, as most differ.... but yeah, you see where I'm going. Legal and Business implications are what would slow down the games release if were it not taken up by an already 'experienced and in place' distributer (IE Steam).

I don't really care WHERE it comes out. I only want to know:
    -WHERE can i buy it?
-HOW MUCH will it cost (i hope it's under 15 bucks :p)
-Can i pay with PaySafe? (Don't ask me, okay?)

Well in the end I do not really care, though I would prefer steam. Steam is a solid, popular and unfortunately, not so stable :giggle: distribution network. It has millions of daily users which would aid in potential purchases of Starbound as well as an account system, encryption, all that complicated stuff that is needed. Just look above at what Blue said.

If Starbound were released independently on their own website all would be dandy, although there is risks. However the most notable thing would be that the only way you would know about is if you were to be told about it, already knew about it or found it by chance. Steam would have it in the 'New Releases' where millions would see it. Hey, maybe even 'Top Sellers'. I personally believe that Steam would be the best choice, and I have a good reason to believe this. Even so, I wouldn't care if it was released on a website.

Yea, I bet it will be on Steam, but everything is a subject to change.
It's highly likely, since they said they want to utilize Steam features, like friends and achievements.

I honestly don't care. I would enjoy if it was on Steam and supported all of Steam's features but I would get the game no matter where it was sold.

It can't possibly be a Steam-only release, because they're releasing it as Linux-native too. There's no native Steam client in Linux. Desura would work, or direct from them. I'm guessing it'll be some sort of mixed release.

I'd probably buy it directly from the website, given the option, because I assume that puts the most cash in the devs' pockets.

Yeah, i was hoping like Terraria to get a special edition instore, that would be great.

So the general mood is Steam?
I to love steam and Tig has some experience with getting his games on there so it definatly points to that online.
But could there be a hardcopy?

If it is released on steam that would be amazing. Just another great game to the list. :D

A hardcopy would mean no updates, so that may not be the best choice, I think.
Steam all the way, for me, I'd love it to be in there.

A hard copy could work as an install disk. Like ffxi, ffxiv, guild wars, etc. Then updates are still possible.

although digital distribution is a far cheaper and easier to organise alternative to hard copies,
    not to mention increased accessibly

  19. Zenuel

    Zenuel Cosmic Narwhal

It could, but with indie companies I imagine it's harder to put out a physical copy, look at how Terraria did it, only on the last leg of it's existence did it put something out.

Alvery true, I wasn't trying to claim it was better, or a wise idea, just was saying it -could- work as such.
