While the devs released some nice demonstrations, I'd like to know when we'll be able to see actual gameplay. Similar to Terraria's early gameplay demonstrations, I would hope it would have a commentary explaining everything going on.

Discuss what you'd like to see in this video, and give your prediction on when we'll be able to see it.

Maybe within the next two months? Around a month ago we were told we would get a water video, havn't gotten it yet, heh.

Most likely never. The devs are horrible about updating

These are all completely diverse answers, which makes me wonder what's going on. :/

It seems that the devs don't show anything until they feel it is worth showing. They showed us the light demo because it was way cool, same with the tree demo. We probably won't see full gameplay video until gameplay is feature complete and good looking. They don't want to show us anything half-baked, which makes plenty of sense.

We've been given a holiday season goal, I think. So it would make sense if the release of a gameplay video was in between August and December. After that it would mostly be fine tuning of sound and gameplay, if there was spare time, maybe suggestions from the community.

  9. I have also been waiting for quite some time now, but unlike some other game developers, I have faith in Chucklefish.
I also would like to say, (before it happens) Don't hate on people for asking about future stuff if they ask in an nice way.
It just means they like what they see, and they want to see more.

Once too many, I have seen people on various forums and the like say things such as:
"Omg! be patient you &%$# idiot! The developers have been have been slaving away making it better, and all you want is more &%#$% stuff you greedy &*^%#$*!!" Or somthing like that.

    It's a disscussion, not a command.

Remember this is likely their only job day in and day out until it is finished and ready. Its not like they are just working on it when they feel like it.

I bet even on their days off their minds are buzzing with "How can I improve this or that?" "What haven't I thought of yet that is driving me crazy!!"

I do agree with the OP, I think we're all excited with this game and we want to see more than just what they showed us.
But I too understand the devs, it is difficult to develop a game and takes a lot of time.

Thanks for all the responses, and I just want to say I don't mean to in any way put down the developers, I'm just wondering.

well, id assume maybe 2 to 3 months we'll get a legit gameplay video with a bit of commentary: perhaps?
maybe during this month to the next, we'll get a short video like the light one, and the forest one: but for something else of course like water and pressure

My guess is it will almost be in the last 2 months or so of dev, when most of the features have already be announced.

Sincerely and not wanting to start a discussion, That attitude makes me really sad/mad with the devs, OK i know they got more important things to do, yes the game is probably a buggy mess right now, and yes they want to surprise us, but they REALLY should make at least a post per week, that's not a lot, that's actually the least they can do, because, hmm, we are going to pay for the product? we are going to give them our money, i am not saying to spoil everything about the game, just show us a bit so we know what the hell is going on inside the game, actually this would help them a lot too, as we would be happier seeing their job and our game being made, we could have a better relationship with the devs this way, anyway, more on topic i expect some gameplay video in the next 1-3 weeks.

I must say I agree with you in that the devs could keep us up to date a little more.

  18. To add onto this, you guys also have to remember that there might not be much that they could show off in the form of a full-fledged video. For example, a lot of the screenshots we've seen are mostly featuring game mechanics. If you look at those screenshots, there aren't many NPCs walking around. Maybe those aren't implemented as well as the devs would like, so they feel like it wouldn't be the best time to show those off yet. Of course, if something such as NPCs aren't implemented properly yet, then the video would either be "dull" in that area (i.e. empty planets), or we'd see placeholders/glitchyness, which would make the game look "off". Also, if the devs have half-developed a feature, but later scrap it for whatever reason, it's easier for them to remove/change it if everyone hasn't seen part of it and is expecting that. Sure, they could show us half-complete things to get our opinions on, but that also happens whenever Tiy shares a screenshot of something in IRC or on the forums. If he made a video for everything he wanted to get an opinion on, that means he'd have to take time to make the video, and then go through all of the comments and such. I would think it's easier for him to just say "Hey guys, this is X. What do you guys think of it?" and take it from there.
Between Tiy's Twitter, IRC, and posts made on the forums by the devs, updates have been showing up quite a bit lately (i.e. generated slopes, dual-monitor support/new planets, etc.), and I could probably find something posted/shared with us from each week or two for the past while, at least. A lot of the things that have been shown lately is stuff that doesn't necessarily require a "proper" newspost on playstarbound.com since they're just of what the devs have been working on, and aren't really a specific "feature" - just something awesome they wanted to share with us.

I'm not on the IRC 24/7 and I don't personally have a twitter account. Perhaps we need a place where all updates can be found.

  20. People usually end up posting a lot of stuff here on the forums as well.
