OP HAS A HEART OF STEEL! Seriously, though, OP. Thanks for the reminder. The number of convulsing twelve year olds screaming "ITS UNFINISHED AND ITS MISSING PIZZAAAZZZZZ!!!!" is killing me.

I loved those two streams, but monsters deaths made me sad. Still that "poof & disappear" deaths :(

I hope it will be improved or something. Well, if not, random adventures will be still awesome. I can live with poofs :D

It wasn't the monster deaths or behaviors that bugs me, its the spawn rate. I know its still a work in progress, but I hope that I don't have to kill a new monster every few feet I walk in game.

This is why they just shouldn't stream at all and only show things they feel certain are ready, or almost so. Gamers are an extremely spoiled, whiny bunch who don't quite understand how development works. Not this forum in particular, just...everywhere.

There is an advantage of getting user comments on an unfinished product. This allows the team to change directions early if the playerbase as a whole doesn't like something. Complaining should really not be looked at as such a negative thing. That being said the players need to be respectful in how they do it, and the developers should be careful not to follow every rabbit trail some random player throws out there.

EDIT:TLDR Its much better to get complaints now then have something missed and released in the finished product.

lol correct them? I'd rather not spend all day on these forums repeating crap over and over. Even if the information was stickied people still wouldn't read it and would flood the forum with ignorant threads. I know that from plenty of experience; the masses on the Internet aren't the smartest bunch, and they're not the type to try to help themselves.

So yes, I stand by what I said. If it's boring for the fans, welcome to the world of video games, where waiting patiently for information is entirely normal.

Do you always see things in black and white? Sweety, there's a world of difference between normal discussion (right here, right now) and spewing the same crap to idiots over and over again.

Well, in terms of a rough definition of what a "beta" is, it is to be a feature-complete version of the the game (or at least very close to) that requires testing for bugs. QoL (Quality-of-Life) issues are also usually addressed in the beta phase. There may also be additional features that are added as a result of feedback from in-house testing, or open testing as what is going to happen with Starbound.

I would also like to add that just because a beta is feature-complete, does not mean that all of the features are 100%.

let's count all of the misinformation threads posted on this board because of a stream video on the first page

    let's see

    one.

One topic where you would have to correct someone, even though you didn't and don't have to. You can either ignore it, or you can correct them and then speculate and discuss with them and generally make things enjoyable for everyone.

Or we can say no videos for anyone and keep talking about the same things over and over since we never get new info on anything. Although, I thought that's what you hated, so I'm a little confused

  15. Very informative OP. Thanks for the post, hopefully some of the more confused members of our community get directed here so they can see from the Dev's convo how their internal testing is done and what is portrayed in the livestreams.

    1. Taking things too literal.
    2. Ignorance isn't only relegated to thread titles.
    3. Information can come from other sources other than test footage videos, and like I just said, welcome to the video game world. Sometimes you have to WAIT for something you want, and the fact that I've seen people complaining about 'no info' after a whole MONTH is laughable. Even accused the developers of sitting on their asses for the whole month doing nothing just because they didn't word vomit everything they're doing to us. A month is nothing, not to mention we got a good chunk of interesting information with the Reddit AMA.

I cannot get how people do not understand that developers need to not only test the game when showing us footage, like the footage from the stream, but also keep us from seeing content that could spoil our experience of the game. Then again, as we have seen, if they don't show their hand, people criticize them for what is shown.

Chucklefish is damned if they do, and damned if they don't.

Or let's not judge things because not only are we not real critics but we aren't the developers of the game either. This is especially important given the fact that the game isn't even at full release yet and won't be for a while. It's still in the beta stages, and many games in their beta stages may still be missing a lot of intended features and mechanics. Space battles, for one, has been pretty much confirmed to be in but will not be available during Beta.

Honestly though, there were lasers. A good number of the guns shot lasers, but the fact that laser BEAMS are not in probably has something to do either with limitations of the systems already integrated or balancing issues having to do with lasers. Honestly, I think the sound effects are fine. They sound light they fit the weapons they come out of, and I imagine that enough of those sound effects on screen won't grate on the nerves. They have a certain aesthetic that fits not only the weapons they are using but the feeling of the game itself.

Also, one gun did shoot fireballs that bounced around, and I thought that it was pretty freakin' neat. The reason nothing catches fire yet is because debuffs aren't completely implemented yet, last I checked. The reason these guns came up at all is because Tiy was probably randomly generated them with a key bind or other such command at a certain level/tier and perhaps a number of functions wouldn't have come up because they weren't incredibly rare guns, or perhaps they weren't implemented yet, or perhaps they just didn't exist. He was showing off guns because guns don't still have animations that need to be worked out. If I remember correctly, some of the melee weapons have place holder animations that need to be replaced somewhere down the line so he wasn't going to bother showing something that wasn't completed. Randomized melee weapons already exist, and this is already hinted in the Roadmap that I'm pretty sure almost everyone has read by now. 'Attack patterns', however, sounds a lot like 'Animations', so I can tell you right now that it will take a bit longer to do something like that and then implement it if they ever do.

On a gameplay perspective, I don't seem beams adding anything dynamic to the game. They're a hitscan weapon that does constant damage and it would basically make them the easiest to use and most powerful weapon available. They cannot be dodged easily because all you have to do is point at your target and click. Same thing with homing rockets. Point in their general direction and click. Fire and forget. They're both dumb weapons, and by dumb I mean they take almost no thought to use correctly. There is no difficulty curve to using a homing rocket (unless if you're playing Worms) or a beam weapon. From a gameplay perspective, all of the other weapons that were shown were dynamic enough to provide many, many different ways of dealing with threats and I can imagine that some of them have a pretty high difficulty curve to use to their greatest effect. Not everyone is good at using splitting weapons or effectively firing a MIRV to deal maximum damage. Perhaps not everyone can make the best use of groundhugging bullets and bombs. That's why there's a bunch of vanilla bullet weapons that just shoot straight and that's it, but the other weapons are there so you can still get the hang of them and then learn to use them to your advantage. They add a very interesting dynamic to using guns. Likewise, melee will certainly have it's own dynamics, but they have yet to be shown off because we have yet to even see a single shield since they were mention back in 2012.

But let's not presume to judge a game like we're a bunch of half-assed critics only judging based on what we've seen of the game rather than what we have actually experienced. Mind you, none of us have experienced the game so a large amount of our 'judgements' are invalidated due to a severe lack of information and context. Even then, no trailer is going to suddenly enlighten us enough to validate any of our judgements still because we still haven't played it. And even if you don't like it, I am not going to try to convince you otherwise because it's not my responsibility or goal. I'm simply explaining to you why things may be how they are given the limited information we all have available.

Also, that's right... there's way more than just the videos. There's a bunch of other media and chat logs that explain more about what the game will have.

Ok, now breath. I just gave you my opinion after watching that video. I certainly am not judging the game as the final release, though no matter what, the game will be judged in the end. You don't need to be a critic to judge something as "lacking in a certain way for your tastes". On top of that, real critics can be total jokes. User reviews are the ones that better describe a game, since a lot of those critics get paid for their scores.

EIther way, you're right, I judged too early and I know that, but for me it was just a quick judgement of the video, I still absolutelly love the game.
