Definitely not trying to come off as abrasive here, but this question is asked multiple times a day, whether it be here or IRC.

Not saying it's a bad thing considering the community needs to know, but it does agitate a few folks when they see it so frequently.

That's exactly my point. While I want to see the beta/game released I'm not overly concerned about the length of time. But going off of the many threads here, it's not hard to see why people want some clarification on a date. The threads about release dates are not going to slow down, in fact as time goes on without any additional information there will be more of them. I've worked in IT for almost 20 years, I'm intimately familiar with the process of developing and releasing projects. I understand technical setbacks and other things that delay a release, but one of the best ways to stem backlash is to keep in communication with the target audience.

It seems there are several different camps here. There are a lot of people who want the beta right now. There are those who are willing to wait 6 months or longer. I think both of those groups are slightly unrealistic (just my opinion). There's a third group who are willing to wait but realize that the beta/game won't be here next week, but also realize that more than a few months is pushing the limits of patience for those who have pre-ordered. Either way if the game lives up to expectations, the company will have my full support.

This has been my estimate forever. If you think about actual release date, 2013, and what a beta is actually used for (testing the game and getting all the bugs out). Then it would be a plausible guesstimate of June/July.that leaves 5 months left In 2013. So. Good amount of beta time.

Roadmap is beeing updated soon was tweeted a few hours ago unfortunatly we know this update is coming in chucklefish time how ever i say we wait on the new update and see where the progress is when the dust settles

Never know could be farther than we think are progress wise

I have some issues with this thread. First, from what I can read on the roadmap, it still has quite a bit of work that is required to be done, including one regarding vital mechanics/features. And then there's bugfixing, too, though possibly big part of it will be part of what beta players will have to first provide reports for. Second, we don't really know what month the game will be 90%-95% done.

I can wait. There are other games I play or want to play.

While that may not exactly be the case today with updates and patching, the point still gets across.
I think the best thing we can do is wait, have some patience, and give the developers our support.

I'm more excited about this game than I was about getting busy after prom. However, I am more than willing to wait until 2016 to get a finished, polished, and amazing game. STARBOUND!

I think we get into beta after core mechanics will be finished. Every1 know how log we was able to play Minecraft aplha/beta without any biger problems ... here should be the same

I actually very much agree with this concept. I mean, MC turned out to be a HUGE success and it did this, Why not Starbound? But I don't think that's Tiy's M.O.

90% is optimistic on a game release.
That roadmap probably isn't doing much good, either. The average of all of those combined is 71%! They simply are not 70% of the way done with the game. Eh, maybe that close to beta, but still.

The problem with that though it counts each section as an equal chunk, when clearly they're not. World generation and dungeons would take far more time and effort to create than, say, a GUI or character creator.

If I had to, I would wait until 2014 for Starbound. I would rather the game be perfect, because "you can only release a game once."

Unfortunately, the Beta will also count as a "release", just like Minecraft. This means that the devs would only have to leave out the things that aren't required for the game to be played in it's full and proper form (ie: starting NPC quests, party system, etc) in order to have a perfect "release".

Unfortunately Terraria got rushed, and you saw it's impact on the game. Redigit originally envisioned the full release to be like Terraria 1.1 (when it added Hardmode and The Hallow, essentially doubling the duration of a "playthrough"), though people rushed him into releasing the game way too early.

Though I have faith in Starbound's devs. Don't rush it, guys.

Tiy will release the game when he feels it’s ready, if that’s tomorrow, good for us, if that’s next year, good for us, it's win-win either way.

May seems too soon. I'm thinking June or July. I'm guessing beta will last at least three months.

Because we don't need two to three of these threads every single day, it's ridiculous. At best, it's just a repeat of the same thing over and over -"Oh, it's probably going to be late summer." "Oh, you're probably right."

And at worst, it devolves in a whine-fest about the lack of an exact release date.
