there was just a post that made a few large assumptions about STARBOUND's release date. i know Chucklefish want the game to be perfect, but that is near impossible (but i believe they can do it if they try and have the time.) my question is, when would you rather just take the game at 90-95% instead of waiting longer?

EDIT: THIS IS FOR BETA RELEAsE

  3. I would say June > July for the BETA. (90-95% game completion) Then may be late-2013 for Launch. ;)

But I can be wrong, we all can, but I'm just looking at the recent developments on all of this ^^

I really don't think they're 90-95 percent done with the game.

It would be so nice if someone from the dev team would give a little information on what they think is likely release date for the beta. There is so much speculation on the boards these days and eventually that speculation is going to turn into hostility especially now that the community has spent over 900k in pre-orders.

I get that the dev team may not know a firm release date, but the bottom line is they know more than most people posting on this forum. And when you accept money for a product there are certain expectations. However with that being said, I am a HUGE fan of Terraria. As a long time gamer, I honestly believe that Terraria is probably one of the most refreshing gaming experiences in the last couple of decades. With Starbound being the spiritual successor to that game, I can only imagine how amazing it will be.

Last time they gave a ballpark estimate of a release, and didnt fulfil that, people literally sent death threats to them.
You can see why they don't want to try making promises they might not be able to keep.

They can't because they simply don't know.

I would say about May since it's supposedly at 70% done. I don't know how fast progress is but I would love to get the beta soon so we all can have a day of silence on the forums.

100% means that it's fully done and everything is implemented + Bugfree. Retail one, that is.

I'm fine with waiting for the 99% for beta then 100% for full release.

I'm ok with waiting until next year because I just want a good game and I'd love to see Chucklefish's vision for Starbound instead of a 90% complete vision.

Closer the beta come out to the beginning of my summer vacation, the happier I'll be.

I get they may not know an exact date, but they need to set some type of expectation other than 2013. And I'm not saying this just out of selfish interest. If a person sent a death threat and they had no financial stake in the product, imagine how they will react if they spent money on the game with no clue as to when a beta or finished product will be released.

Fair point there, but at that time when they estimated a beta, Tiyuri didn't think the game was anywhere near ready. Now we have a roadmap, preorders, which gives us access to the developing soundtrack, and we see that Chucklefish is picking up on development.
We have more than enough solid evidence to show that the game is there and is nearing fruition.
Not giving an estimated time for release other than "this year" gives the dev team time to breathe when it's getting to a critical point in the process which is making sure its as bugless as possible and fine-tuning game mechanics rather than burn out and rush it,, giving the game a possible game-breaking bug or other critical flaw.

I'd rather not have an estimated date but you can gauge how long it's gonna take by the roadmap, which Tiyuri DID state is going to be updated shortly this week.

You kinda answered your own question.

If they put out another tentative release date and fail to meet it, imagine the rage that will be directed towards them by the people that now have some financial stake in the product.

Guys, these threads are getting absolutely ridiculous. I understand being excited for the game, believe me, if it came out now, I'd almost certainly fail my finals I wanna play it so badly. But we're seeing multiple threads on this subject daily.

    Enough.

They are working as hard and as fast as they can. Believe me, they don't want to keep us waiting any longer then they have to, but they genuinely don't know when Beta or release will be specficially. Or hell, they might know when Beta is and are just saving it for next month's newsletter. Either way, everyone needs to just relax.

i didn't make this thread as a battleground, i only wanted a poll of the community opinion. i haven't seen this question yet, so it wwas probably either never asked or asked a long time ago. it is nice to get an updated opinion.

Impatience seems spread across those plains of the forums. I'd wait as long as it would take... because that's the only thing we can actually do.
In about one or two weeks I am going to be a father, so games won't affect me that much. Of course I'll play, but I don't care when this is the case.

I'm not blaming you, Lugu, but there is a thread 'We Need A Release Date!' literally right above yours, and I've been seeing similar all week. Sorry, didn't mean to imply I was mad at you or anything.
