When did we/you find out about and start following Starbound?

Pretty much at this time too.

 

My friends told me about it while we were playing Terraria a few weeks after this Christmas. I looked at it and bought a few days later

 

On December 5th my brother told me about a new, fun game that just came out and he described it as "space Terraria." I've always liked sandbox and building games, especially ones in 2d, and I'm a huge space nerd. I played a demo of sorts on it by playing on my brothers steam account and loved it, then I got it on my own steam account. I don't think he was following the game for a while, though. He probably would have mentioned it.

 

I remember TotalBiscuit & Jesse Cox doing a small series about Starbound after their Terraria one, and I just instantly wanted to play it. But I never tried Terraria; I guess the space part of Starbound definitely made my choice. 300 hours of gameplay later I think it was without a doubt a good decision

 

I saw the first screenshots of it a few years ago. And was quite unimpressed with the huge sprites, I thought they looked like giants.

Then around December of last year I quit civilization 5 for the last time(never touching it again, that game is addictive...), when I saw a friend I kept in touch with on twitter start giving out keys for Christmas. I thought about the idea. But no one else in my family had Steam. So after fiddling with the character creator I bought a key for downloading the beta.

 

Did a google search for "games like terraria."

 

Heard about it during a episode of a podcast I'm listening to. Bought it and now I certainly do not regret it

 

Actually I was quite late to the table. June/July last year?

I came across one of those "TERRARIA RIP OFF" threads where they call people to arms to put a stop to it.

I came to see what the fuss was about and it punched me square in my excitement kidney.

 

Many months before the pre-order or the beta were announced.

 

Looking at my receipts box in the ol' email, it's almost exactly a year ago that I pre-ordered Starbound (28th of June 2013). I heard about it quite some time before, but forgot about it. Then I found it again, and was excited

 

Yep, nothing amazing here. The good old Google Search for "Terraria Alternatives". Why I can't google something simple like "Games Like Terraria" is beyond me.

Ive been following starbound since the very very beginning...

 

When redigit announced there would no longer be terraria updates and Tiy was moving onto to make starbound. Loosely followed production and around august of last year finally decided it was time to grace the forums with my presence, the rest is history.

 

I think the better questions is: When did Starbound start following me/us? Did you try and take a bath while Starbound is looking at you yet? It is very awkward.

 

On Christmas Day, one of my friends said "Hey, you should get Starbound!" and I was all like "WTF is Starbound?!" and they said "It's a fun sandbox game in space," so I was like "Okay," and then I got it and it was cool. The end.
