When did we/you find out about and start following Starbound?

I thought that they had a kickstarter back in like 2012 sometime for some reason, which was when I bought it, but I realized it was 2013. Of course it seemed like that since I've been following it for a long time and I knew I bought it in kickstarter as soon as it was available...lol

Anyways, I think a lot of us heard about this game almost immediately when it was announced and they started to work on it. I can't recall exactly when that was, but according to some Google searches it seems that Tiy started announcing and showing a little bit of the game back in February 2012. For some reason I feel like I started following this, and/or heard about this game well before that (I remember someone on the Terraria forums on Gamefaqs.com telling me about it actually), but I suppose it is possible that it was then that it was announced and we all got wind of it.

I really wanted to look into this more because it feels like it has been like 4 years since we found out about this, but as far as I can find it really is starting to look like the beginning of 2012 may be the answer I was seeking. LOL

I think this gives me a little more perspective on the development too if indeed it was February 2012 when this all started. That's still over 2 years, but that's not an unreasonable amount of time to wait and not be all that fussed over a game being developed. It just doesn't make much sense it was only 2012 though because I remember that at one time there was a hope that this game would be released in Q3-Q4 in 2012, and Tiy said that to me in some form of communication around June/July that year. So obviously there is no way that this game was planned to be done in like 9 months. xD

So was that February 2012 info I found in Google the time that any of us would have heard about this game, or was there some other info about it before that?

 

I was (and still am) a huge terraria fan so I was watching some of pedguins videos, dont know what video or why when I saw a video of him talking about a game that looks like terraria, it was unnamed at the time
about a year or 2 later I grew increadibly bored of terraria (this was before 1.2 hit) and remembered that game that looked like it. I soon learned it was called starbound and instantly was excited
I later purchased starbound early. it later got released and I (after the first update, I couldnt play) loved it.
so thats how I found starbound, looking around on youtube

 

I don't actually remember how I found Starbound.

I think, after playing Terraria, I did a search for similar games and happened to stumble upon Starbound.

 

I can't remember how I found out about it, but I started following it just a month or two before the Beta release.

Just saw Starbound in steam store. Checked it out, liked it and bought it.

 

A friend of mine's brother supposedly knew someone on the Dev team. After hearing about the game from my friend, I started following the news religiously which was about a year and a half ago.

 

Before the forums even opened up. (I joined the forums the day they opened up)

I think I found out about SB indirectly from Terraria (because you know... Tiy).

 

My friends were hyped up about it a few weeks before beta.
I watched videos by Paulsoaresjr, Vechs_, and Zisteau.
A week or so later, I got it.
A few weeks after that, I joined the forums.

 

Etho's You tube channel. Heard about it in production, then forgot about it.

Then when it came out saw lots of let's plays on it, then I remembered where I heard of it original. I followed till I could buy it. Which was the christmas update, Angry Koala. So for a while now. At least a while for me anyhow.

 

I started watching it since the end of last summer. Learned it through a friend who watches it occasionally.

Heard about it on the steam news for Terraria the first time then again a while later on the TVtropes page for Terraria.

 

I was searching for sandbox games on google and I had find that.
That was... something like one month before I finally decide to pre-order it and subscribe to the forum.
(so, more or less during the month of august 2013)

That was the first alpha/beta game I had buy and after that I had buy some other...
like kerbal space program, overgrowth, Sir you are being hunted (it is full game now), plague inc: evolved etc...
A lot of fun.

 

The owner of the mc server i've been staff on (still am), said once he were going to log off and play Starbound, pretty much after the Beta was pushed out.
a few days later i got myself some copies.

Funny thing was Endling was also responsible for introducing me to Terraria as well lol. He brought me into the game, and right as I left the community for it, he pulled me right back into Starbound's.

 

Juice Box has been following Starbound... forever
