    1. What race are you going to play, and why? Do any of the races just not appeal to you at all? Hylotl. For some reason, they appealed to me immediately. The fact that they are oriental based and more or less peaceful made it even better. None that don't appeal really.
    2. What are your plans for your first character? Rush through to the highest danger levels? Be a peaceful farmer? Go through to get some useful tech first, then farm and explore while the crops grow. But farming, mostly.
    3. What do you like to do in the game? Is mining something that never gets boring to you? Are you a treasure hunter? Once I get bored, I go adventuring, and yes, I like treasure but I enjoy farming.
    4. Are you going to play with other people? If so, with friends or on a big/small public server? Small private server likely. With my wife and maybe a friend or three.
    5. How many hours do you think you're going to play? More than I should, really.
    6. What combat style do you prefer? Melee, Ranged, etc. Will you fight every enemy you come across? 2H, Crossbows, Gun/Shield. I switch around depending on the situation.
    7. Are you going to have one "Main" base, multiple smaller bases or just wander around? What biome do you think you'll enjoy the most? One main base to share. I can't wait to see the Ocean Biome. I hope we get techs or items that can manipulate and/or move water around. I like ponds and bridges.

  2. Moonpony

    Moonpony Void-Bound Voyager

Ahahahah, yay! I don't know why I haven't answered this before now.

    1. I wanted to play Avians originally, since I like the lore and the aesthetics of that particular race. For some reason, I wound up rolling a human instead. I'm not sure why. The Hylotl and the Novakid appeal to me, too, and I like the Glitch, but I think the Avians are still my favourite.

    2. I ended up doing a little bit of both. The farming came in once I figured out how to do it, because I needed to have a reliable stockpile of food and the monsters I tried to kill for meat kept ripping my face off. (The vegetables didn't fight back. Mostly.) Then, thus stockpiled with food, I could explore longer and look for things to improve my armour. Which meant running straight into Places I Should Not Be, which is always good for fun times and hilarious stories!

    3. I like to mine, but more than that, I like hunting for new building materials. There seems to be a nigh on inexhaustible supply of those, so I always enjoy looking for different things to try out. Treasure hunting is always a bonus, too, because unique structures always have stuff lying around. Oh, and collecting vanity armour.

    4. I want to play with other people, but right now my situation has me left with very little online time, and the connection I'm often using isn't robust enough to support it. I will, eventually, but it'll probably be with friends on a private or semi-private server. For the most part, I play alone right now.

    5. Let's see. I sank about three hundred hours into Terraria. I expect to do about the same with this. Steam isn't tracking my hours correctly, though, so I can't be too sure how many I've clocked in so far.

    6. I usually prefer melee, because I can't play with fullscreen settings. I can't actually see the monsters until they're close enough to reach out and punch, so I go for melee weapons. Most of the time I'm wielding two-handers, because I have yet to find or make a decent one-handed weapon. I go for maximum damage since I usually have just one chance to hit the critter. I tend to punch everything I come across, because we require more pixels.

    7. Originally I'd planned to have just one main base, but that planet developed a case of critical lag. So I pulled up my roots and moved to another planet, only to discover that my base got meteor'd three times in a row. So, after that, I threw my hands up and decided to just make my starship my portable base. I could farm on planets as I explored them, and come back to collect the crops. I knocked out the interior of my starship and replaced it with a background of mixed fine sand and sandstone bricks, and it has a neat Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom vibe going on. (The cowboy hat I have on my human character doesn't hurt. It's not Indy's hat, but it's close.) As for biomes, I like them all! Seriously, I think they're all fantastic. I can't wait to move past the Beta Sector and see what some of the different ones look like. I also can't wait to make a space helmet so I can explore the Asteroid Field and Moon biomes. They look pretty nifty.

    aerithkm Astral Cartographer

    1. What race are you going to play, and why? Do any of the races just not appeal to you at all? Floran, I like how they look and I am an avid gardener (in real life).
    2. What are your plans for your first character? Rush through to the highest danger levels? Be a peaceful farmer? Explore..mine..farm..etc
    3. What do you like to do in the game? Is mining something that never gets boring to you? Are you a treasure hunter? So far - working on defeating all the bosses. Today will be the last one for now, the Jelly Boss. Exploring new planets, mining, treasure hunting and farming.
    4. Are you going to play with other people? If so, with friends or on a big/small public server? I play LAN running the server on my laptop with my two kids.
    5. How many hours do you think you're going to play? Well...I am really busy all the time but also on my laptop nearly all the time and I have been playing WAY more than I should.
    6. What combat style do you prefer? Melee, Ranged, etc. Will you fight every enemy you come across? I crafted a Trunkthunk and perfected my timing with melee until I used a forum to travel to coordinates where we found a lot of guns..so now I am using a combo. I like to use a Precious Boomstick I found today (rocket launcher) from a distance but it is slow. I like this Holy Dudeshooter for the birds, it sprays bullets fairly quickly, if all else fails and an enemy is too close I use the Trunkthunk.
    7. Are you going to have one "Main" base, multiple smaller bases or just wander around? What biome do you think you'll enjoy the most? The ships are getting cramped so my kids and I have split up themed areas as much as we can across our three ships. I was farming every time I went to a new planet since some seeds take so long..until I figured out you can farm on your ship with great results.. So now I have platforms with a farm on my ship for peppers, oculemons and carrots. Most of the crafting tables are in my ship..the robotic crafting and the metalwork station. My youngest son who plays with me the most has the cooking station and storage on his ship. We are somewhat of hoarders...so we have a variety of chests and a crate with food items for the cooking station. I like the veggie soup the most because it fills hunger and also does great regen so if I want to blast thru a new area and my hunger/health is half taking a soup means I can just run through an area. I am hoping to find more recipes..apple pie is good but we found it made and don't have a recipe. Anyway, so I guess our bases are spread out among the ships. I found a raining forest that I set as my home thinking farming would be good there but the stuff doesn't seem to grow if you aren't on the planet so I just plant tomatoes there if I am exploring for awhile.

    1. What race are you going to play, and why? Do any of the races just not appeal to you at all?
I tried almost every race save for the human. My hubby played the human race and I didn't find their background story appealing. I chose Floran first and then the hyotl, then the apex, then the glitch, and then last the Avian.
    2. What are your plans for your first character? Rush through to the highest danger levels? Be a peaceful farmer?
I'll try to get coals as soon as possible and try to find a suitable planet.
    3. What do you like to do in the game? Is mining something that never gets boring to you? Are you a treasure hunter?Mining is essential but it does take its toll (don't want to be a mindless gatherer). I like to collect things, that's for sure.
    4. Are you going to play with other people? If so, with friends or on a big/small public server?
I play with my hubby thru LAN most of the time.
    5. How many hours do you think you're going to play?
I could go on for hours. Since my steam is always on offline mode, I can't say how long it is already since I played the game.
    6. What combat style do you prefer? Melee, Ranged, etc. Will you fight every enemy you come across?
I like dual-wielding in this game. I try to avoid combat as much as possible tho.
    7. Are you going to have one "Main" base, multiple smaller bases or just wander around? What biome do you think you'll enjoy the most?
I'll have a main base where there's an avian colony near by.
    8. Housing Styles
Ah, housing. Depends on the mood. I'm currently making a rustic look like mansion hanging over a cliff with a green house down bellow
    9. Favorite Biome?
Nothing in particular yet. Althoough, I do tend to visit arid lands to get ores, does that count?

    1. What race are you going to play, and why? Do any of the races just not appeal to you at all?
Currently I've been switching between a Human and Hylotl, they both appeal to me. What I'm really waiting for is the Novakid race though, the Wild West theme has always interested me. Florans however, don't appeal to me at all.
    2. What are your plans for your first character? Rush through to the highest danger levels? Be a peaceful farmer?
Setting out and exploring the universe is the best style for me, only stopping to make a base/town in one of the final sectors. (Let's hope it isn't a meteorite planet)
    3. What do you like to do in the game? Is mining something that never gets boring to you? Are you a treasure hunter?
Mining definitely gets boring in Starbound. There's really no reason to go down at all, since there seems to be a lack of underground dungeons or unique items. I do usually search out rare items though.
    4. Are you going to play with other people? If so, with friends or on a big/small public server?
Decently small server of around 3-6 people ideally. Maybe pop into some public servers from time to time.
    5. How many hours do you think you're going to play?
Currently I have a just over a few hundred hours invested into the game. Hopefully the updates will enough content to justify at least doubling that time.
    6. What combat style do you prefer? Melee, Ranged, etc. Will you fight every enemy you come across?
I really enjoy having a sword in one hand, and a pistol in the other. That way I can use melee most of the time and also control spacing when I need too. I usually fight whatever attacks me, unless I need to get somewhere fast.
    7. Are you going to have one "Main" base, multiple smaller bases or just wander around? What biome do you think you'll enjoy the most?
As I mentioned in my answer for #2, I won't set up a main base until near the end. I may create smaller structures when necessary. Forest, plains, and snow are what I usually enjoy. Moon and asteroid field may really interest me though.

    1. What race are you going to play, and why? Do any of the races just not appeal to you at all?
I'm a human with the same name as my forum account. I can't imagine myself playing as anything else, other than maybe a Glitch.
    2. What are your plans for your first character? Rush through to the highest danger levels? Be a peaceful farmer?
I'm going to become an amazing sniper/master assassin/thief, raiding the towns and castles of hostile races for treasure, picking off guards one by one.
    3. What do you like to do in the game? Is mining something that never gets boring to you? Are you a treasure hunter?
Obviously, fighting, but I like building small hideouts in noteworthy worlds I come across.
    4. Are you going to play with other people? If so, with friends or on a big/small public server?
Usually alone, but if possible (and if I get enough gear) I'd like to participate in a massive server.
    5. How many hours do you think you're going to play?
    100+ if they keep updating!
    6. What combat style do you prefer? Melee, Ranged, etc. Will you fight every enemy you come across?
Either a sword or a sniper rifle, and I will avoid all enemies until it becomes absolutely necessary to attack.
    7. Are you going to have one "Main" base, multiple smaller bases or just wander around? What biome do you think you'll enjoy the most?
Definitely going to establish a main base, probably underground (because of those pesky asteroids).

    1. Human because I'm a human lol, but I like the Glitch armour for the faster mining.
    2. Tryna get as much shit as possible. I'm sort of a hoarder as I've been told.3. Mining is awesome because I like building stuff with the materials, it's just tedious. My friends usually end up finding a lot of cooler stuff though. I do occasionally go on adventures by myself to find things (and I can get materials too).4. My friend hosts a server; we have 10 people I think.
    5. I quit League for this, so probably a lot. >200 hours in a couple of weeks already.
    6. I like guns because I can hit things before they touch me, but they're kinda weaker and cost energy (better on low level planets when I'm just scouting for stuff). However, I do have a bone sword, and I love one-shotting in very close range on level 10 planets. On many adventures, my friends have asked me if it's necessary to fight everything
    7. I have built a castle on my friends server. Working on a lab atm. Outposts would have been interesting, but it's a small world. I just liked the purple dirt and the snow (winter's my favourite season). There are also no weather conditions on the planet so I have no worry of meteors fucking up all my work.

    1. What race are you going to play, and why? Do any of the races just not appeal to you at all?
I'm playing Avian all the way, the Glitch make annoying noises when they get attacked, and the other races just don't appeal. I liek burds.

    2. What are your plans for your first character? Rush through to the highest danger levels? Be a peaceful farmer?
Basically, the same I play minecraft, become as powerful as possible, as quickly as possible, I play efficient, and get anything I need, and tier up as fast as possible.

    3. What do you like to do in the game? Is mining something that never gets boring to you? Are you a treasure hunter?
I mine on desert planets cause sand and gravel are super OP for mining, and I collect materials till I tier up, then once I'm T10, I just roam planets looking for loot.

    4. Are you going to play with other people? If so, with friends or on a big/small public server?
Huge servers with tons of people if I can, otherwise I just play single player/2 player LAN with a friend.

    5. How many hours do you think you're going to play?
    Millions

    6. What combat style do you prefer? Melee, Ranged, etc. Will you fight every enemy you come across?
T10 Hammer/Star Sword FTW, 1HKO everything in sight all day every day.

    7. Are you going to have one "Main" base, multiple smaller bases or just wander around? What biome do you think you'll enjoy the most?
I plan to make a fairly advanced town in a forest biome, cause I like the bird noises, calming.

    1. What race are you going to play, and why? Do any of the races just not appeal to you at all?
Avian, they seem somewhat smart but still fun to play, kind of like a cross between Glitch and Floran for me.

    2. What are your plans for your first character? Rush through to the highest danger levels? Be a peaceful farmer?
I will probably explore as much as possible just because I want my first run through the sectors to be long and memorable so I really make the most out of it.

    3. What do you like to do in the game? Is mining something that never gets boring to you? Are you a treasure hunter?
Mining definitely gets boring to me sometimes, but I mostly enjoy exploring as much as I can and finding new things, something about the endlessness of the game is just wonderful.

    4. Are you going to play with other people? If so, with friends or on a big/small public server?
I will just play on a server with my friends, I think it would be most fun and easiest to cooperate.

    5. How many hours do you think you're going to play?
    A whole lot.

    6. What combat style do you prefer? Melee, Ranged, etc. Will you fight every enemy you come across?
Melee, and yes, I will definitely try to collect as many pixels as possible.

    7. Are you going to have one "Main" base, multiple smaller bases or just wander around? What biome do you think you'll enjoy the most?
I will have a main base on the first planet I have just for reminiscing, and otherwise I will just wander around and have smaller shacks on the newer planets I find so I have a safe place on the planet.

    1. Apex is probably what I'll stick with. I'm a huge Planet of the Apes fan. (I even own the Tim Burton one...) I was messing around with the Floran because I made a design I like (see icon that might change) but I can't pass up the chance to play an ape for long. I also like the Avian race. I'm okay with all of them, really. Glitch would probably be my least favorite if I had to choose.
    2. I want to stick with one character if I can... though even without the character wipes I don't know if that will be possible. Depends on how the new content is added. In any case I'm going to explore and store goodies on my ship until I find a planet to make my main.
    3. I mine for the sake of ore and building things. I'm also something of a hoarder in these games. I gather everything that looks interesting, which sometimes means stripping down a small house block by block.
    4. Nah. Most likely solo play only.
    5. Too many.
    6. I like ranged combat if I can get away with it. I fight most enemies I come across.
    7. I'm not sure what biome is my favorite yet, though I lean toward jungle. I'll have one main base eventually. Until then, my ship will be filled to the brim with storage containers.

I'm play as avian, I don't really like most of them.

    2. What are your plans for your first character? Rush through to the highest danger levels? Be a peaceful farmer?
Well, I already had my first character a while ago, and he is long gone, but currently just playing.

    3. What do you like to do in the game? Is mining something that never gets boring to you? Are you a treasure hunter?
I like just exploring and treasure hunting.

    4. Are you going to play with other people? If so, with friends or on a big/small public server?
With friends, I'm going to soon host a 24/7 private server for us.

    5. How many hours do you think you're going to play?
    Around 30 years.

    6. What combat style do you prefer? Melee, Ranged, etc. Will you fight every enemy you come across?
I fight a lot, and use mixed attack.

    7. Are you going to have one "Main" base, multiple smaller bases or just wander around? What biome do you think you'll enjoy the most?
I will probably have one big one later in the game when I find the perfect spot. I always have loved snow worlds, so snow biomes.

Also, My play style includes a lot of lag, and I mean an unplayable amount, but its just the most amazing game ever.

    1. What race are you going to play, and why? Do any of the races just not appeal to you at all?
I've been playing Glitch, which I enjoy. But I'm really interested in trying out the Novakid. Apex doesn't appeal to me at all, and Human and Avian seem just meh too me.
    2. What are your plans for your first character? Rush through to the highest danger levels? Be a peaceful farmer?
Probably similar to what I've done since the last wipe. I rushed to be able to get to X Sector, then visited planet after planet, looking only a screen or so from where I beamed down, trying to find a planet with a building right near beam down point. I gutted it, made it my home base, and started my exploring/gathering/hoarding spree.
    3. What do you like to do in the game? Is mining something that never gets boring to you? Are you a treasure hunter?
I love finding new things, especially buildings. Mining was something I started out spending lots of time on, but there just isn't much interesting content there at the moment, so I've cut back on that a lot. Also wish the diamond drill was faster at mining than it is...
    4. Are you going to play with other people? If so, with friends or on a big/small public server?
It will be like now, where me and my 3 sisters are playing on a small private server.
    5. How many hours do you think you're going to play?
Well.... so far I've played over 1000 hours, according to Steam. So... a LOT.
    6. What combat style do you prefer? Melee, Ranged, etc. Will you fight every enemy you come across?
Enemies mostly just get in my way of exploring. I do stop for mini bosses. If they had decent loot, I'd be more likely to fight them. I like ranged the best, but think those weapons still need some tweaking. That being said... I LOVE MY NEW PIGGY GUN!!!!
    7. Are you going to have one "Main" base, multiple smaller bases or just wander around? What biome do you think you'll enjoy the most?
One main base--I don't see a reason to split up my hoard. :) So far I really enjoy desert biome, because of sand and gravel. I love how digging in it causes it all to come cascading down, and the ores to practically tumble into my pocket. Besides the ease of collecting those, it's nice to have a huge underground area cleared out quickly. I think underground exploring would be much more fun if there were more varieties of sand/gravel-like terrain and less of the obsidian and other tough stone.

I try avoiding conflict. This horse man doesn't have time for it.
    7.
Are you going to have one "Main" base, multiple smaller bases or just wander around? What biome do you think you'll enjoy the most?:

    For me of course:
    1. What race are you going to play, and why? Do any of the races just not appeal to you at all?
I love the florans! Like every single character are like florans and a few humans or hylotls. On the other value, I hate the Avians and Apexs, just for some strange reason.
    2. What are your plans for your first character? Rush through to the highest danger levels? Be a peaceful farmer?
Decorating, decorating and lots of decorating, I do some builds I'm just so having the time to make screenies because, "decorating".
    3. What do you like to do in the game? Is mining something that never gets boring to you? Are you a treasure hunter?
I like to decorate and dress up my character to suit my senses. Yeah mining does get boring lots of times, and yes I do love the sound of jiggling treasure in my pockets.
    4. Are you going to play with other people? If so, with friends or on a big/small public server?
I want to, once I've bought my own Starbound. And it will most likely be with friends, I'm not the stranger open-up type of person.
    5. How many hours do you think you're going to play?
I would play 24/7 to be honest.

    1. I like the Glitch a lot, because they're not just robots, they're medieval robots. How cool is that?
    2. I'm going to take my time on each planet, exploring the entire planet and taking any resources I find.
    3. I love exploring the dungeons and structures, especially when I find lore for the Codex. From what I've seen so far, the lore in Starbound is extremely fascinating, and I can't wait to find more.
    4. At the moment, none of my friends have Starbound, but if one of them gets it, I'd love to play on a private server with them.
    5. I think days would be a better measurement for how long I'm going to play Starbound, because I'm going to be playing it for a really long time.
    6. I don't know, I kind of like both melee and ranged equally. I always fight any hostile creatures I find, but I never fight neutral creatures unless I accidentally attack them while fighting something else.
    7. I think I'm going to have one "main" planet that I'll make my home planet, and I'll have my main base there, but I'll also set up smaller outposts on each planet I explore. I think the forest biome would be best for building on, but the new Heck biome sounds really fun to explore.
