1. I want to try all the races. I hope they are different enough that I can play the game multiple times and it feels different because I picked a different race.

2. I want my first character to be able to play cooperative or competitive MP. I don't care what actual gameplay route I take, I hope they are all equally compelling

3. I like exploring, expanding, exploiting and.... conquering. I want to visit a world, find that I can't do everything I want there, but that the base I leave behind is still a valuable resource to my continued expansion.

4. I want to play MP. Whether I play large or small, public or private depends on how fun the devs make the MP PVE and PVP aspects of the game. If it's not a deliberately guided experience, I will most likely only play with friends so we can "police" our own play.

5. That depends on how well the game meets my goals. But potentially upwards of 40 hours/week

6. I don't prefer a style. I hope all are fun because I'd like to explore all of them eventually.

7. I hope to visit a planet and explore it before making a decision on whether to establish a permanent base there. It will be a risk vs rewards assessment. How difficult is it for me to hold a base here vs. the local threats? Do I need to come back later when I have more resources and tools? How deep in the world are the rewards? How plentiful or sparse are the rewards?

I very much hope the game is geared toward pushing me out of only having one base on one planet. It's nonsensical for this game to have billions of planets but to not encourage me to explore them, but rather be content to remain on just one. That's not to say that I won't have a primary or favorite base.

- I made a human so i could portray a Beam me up scotty scene I dislike florans for i find it weird that they have flower on their head.

-For my first character, I would finish the quest. i find it very linear

-I really like roleplaying. A lot Building a base then Expanding!

-Yes any server, big or small. As long as i have someone to talk to (once my character is beefed up)

-until i find a better game than starbound. Like what happend on terraria(stopped playing until i found a better game)((which was starbound!))

-I liked the flamarang on terraria. I liked the hunting bow i think im a ranger. i will fight every hostile thing!

I've played all the races except human. My favorites are... all of them i dunno... i didn't like my avian character as much as i thought i would.

I made a floran space dyke biker and tried stuff out up until the third boss. a bit of both styles. When the wipe comes i'll make a few characters and have one that blasts through and one that takes it as slowly as possible.

I like to have 2-4 different characters that do different things. One criminal, one businessman, one space hobo nomad. I'll see how they play out with their loot and what they run into.

Yes yes yes! You can take your characters freely from single player to servers and that is just mindblowingly awesome. I want to set up a server to play with one(or two) friend and visit public servers.

I've grown fond of daggers and pistols. It's fun to have lots of different combinations of one-hand weapons in the locker, juggling them on the go. But it depends on the character. I think i might just use the strongest crafted weapons for one character in the future but so far i have tried to stick as much as possible to the exotic loot rather than crafted stuff.

Character dependent, i'm SO waiting for ocean biomes and pumps n hoses so i can make proper hylotl bases. We got tree seeds and plant matter stone now so it's fun to make tree forts for avians/floran.

I bounce between Floran (My loveliesssss) and Hylotl (Adorable scamps). I'm waiting on the Novakids, I'd love to play one of those as well. I just adore the Floran comments when you examine things and their entire style (Tribal go go), and the Hylotl get the same. It's like cute "omg what is this can I eat it" on one hand, then with the fishies it's "Wow I do not give a crap, this is trash" on the other. I'm not fond of the Apex myself, they freak me out (their society is freaky in that weird planet of the apes way).

Well, as I'm playing in the beta I generally try to build up a lot of resources and then go from there. Get up to at least tier 2, but every planet I land on my first goal is to go around the entire thing to see if there are any civilizations. I love the villages.

I love exploring the societies, I love mining and finding WEIRD THINGS under planets (So long as it's not gross poison / acid and ooze. Eugh. More like planet of the gross sounds). I'm a dungeon diver I guess is the best way to put it! I love kind of roleplaying my character as I go around.

Yeah, I play with a couple besties on a private server. I would stick my toe into a public server but I'm a shy baby.

5. How many hours do you think you're going to play?

Well... I've at least put in 20 or so already, so... A lot.

Melee currently, the guns are fun but dang that energy bar to hell. I do like two handers the best, or sword and board. And yeah, I usually kill everything I run across unless I'm mining, then I chill with the cool bros who won't attack me.

Since I play with a friend we tend to keep a main base over one planet (leaving their ship there) and make little bases when we land on planets. However, we've started to make a movable base in one ship (mine currently) and planet hop via that to find resources. That's late game, however. I like making little bases though, I feel like an explorer that way.

Floran, I just find it visually appealing. I also enjoy their back-story, essentially what happens when Star Trek's Prime Directive is broken.

Just try to go with the game's natural progression, building onto my house as more items/furniture is found.

I prefer to explore and hunt for treasure. I mine rarely, but when I do, It is quite rewarding.

If I play with other, I'd probably stick with friends. I already have a Minecraft server I help manage. \

As long as things stay fresh and there is plenty to do, countless.

I prefer melee(at this point). Only will fight if provoked. (to stay in character a bit. )

I'll have one Main base on the starting planet while I wander around collecting stuff. Still kinda playing blind, so not sure which I'll enjoy the most.

Floran, possibly Novakid. Nothing to do with backstory, im playing as a sleek, modernised version of the characters anyway I just like the visuals

Play nice and easy up to endgame, and then the real playing begins...go exploring, hunting for resources and then the mega builds begin

Human as my main, because I'm human, duh. Avian and Floran look pretty fun and cool looking too, no any (cough) specific reason for them. Ssstab stabss meatbagss

Running around and exploring, just generally having fun. After highest tier I can do everything and go everywhere, woo!

I'm explorer. Building is fun, but tbh I can't keep my hands off the ship controls and travel to the great unknown.

When sp gets boring, having fun in servers (big/small) is great!

Hours? PffftHAHAHA...

I currently prefer melee, guns cost too much energy. However, I like using both guns and melee weapons at the same time, dealing damage to the foe with a gun before it gets so close I can finish it with sword.
I don't fight every enemy, I don't even want to touch peaceful NPCs/monsters. Golden rule of fighting: If it stabs you, you stab it back twice as hard.

1 main base where I can store my loot, and my ship can work as a mobile home.

Glitch because the visuals are pretty nice and my name is Kevbot, so it makes sense.

I'll do both, but more of a rush because I want to try to get higher tier armor/weapons faster.

Treasure hunter. Just searching for civilizations and underground chests hoping to find plenty of goodies!

Maybe, but I'll try adventure by myself first. If I do join a server, it'll probably go to a public server where I can meet new earthlings.

Plenty! Had over 200 hours in Terraria. I'll probably play all the hours in Starbound

Both, melee and ranged. I'm very good with ranged weapons and I usually make the shots 70% of the time. I'll finish the enemy off with a few slashes with my sword.
I'll usually leave calm enemies alone, unless I'm hungry then I'll hunt it down. Hostile enemies, I'll fight it off until it's dead and won't run til' it's dead.

Ya, I like to play safe personally, but with a Floran huntress, safe isn't exactly in her vocabulary. I try to slow her down though.

I've been making a main base in alpha, and then using it to speed any other character along if i make multiples.

Favorite Housing Style:
I try making one that resembles my starter ship actually. the clank clank seems comforting for some reason.

Fav Biome:
So far, I've been liking Forest and Jungle. Especially when the trees sprout gigantic flowers.

I have more than one account I play on. Primarily I play on my Human account because it is what I call my "Scavenger account". I use it to travel to different planets and get all he resources I can without getting killed. I try to gather as much coal as I can for fuel and usually steer away from hostile beings until I have the proper equipment to fight them. This would entail me making the equipment out of all the things I've gathered.

On my other account I'm a Glitch. This is my very first account and such, I've got lots of items and very strong armor. Typically I use this account to travel to planets and conquer them completely. The Glitch will rule the universe and I will ensure that one planet at a time

Well, my first account was a Glitch. On it I [regretfully] rushed through the tiers and got to the highest danger level as quick as I could. That doesn't provide for a very interesting experience so. Since then I've made a couple others, but I mainly play on my Human account now. On that account I scavenge for materials and resources and am still in search of a home planet.

Surprisingly enough (even to myself), I'm one of the few people that actually enjoys mining. I don't mind how slow the matter manipulator is, but more often I find myself hunting for dungeons and raiding them for all the cool items they're bound to have. I have yet to get into farming, but it seems like a great pass-time.

I'm really not a guy that plays with a lot of people. In other sandbox games, I've always found myself having the most fun with a small group (3-5 people at most) or playing alone. My friends have said they plan on purchasing the game (mostly because they all use Debian, or Arch). I'm always open to invites though

So far I've played ~64 hours. I'm thinking that I may pass the 100 cap within the next week

Depends on what account I'm playing on. When I'm playing on my Glitch account I'm usually in a hurry to wipe out the entire village to repopulate with glitch so I'll use my tier10 sword on everything I come across. On my Human account I take a more tactical approach. I'm almost always using range to keep my distance and keep myself from taking too much damage.

At the moment, I have several bases scattered across the universe on my Glitch account and on my scavenger I have no base just yet. My base would be my ship. As for biomes, I like the forrest biome best.

I have a Hylotl as a player character right now. ^^ I like all the races, but the Hylotl's backstory of being driven off their home planet appeals to me.

Eh, I like taking it smooth. Sure, it can be fun to speed through games, but I plan on taking it slow with Starbound.

I generally like exploring new planets. Mining usually doesn't bore me, but I also love hunting for treasure.

Most definitely. Nearly all of the fun I had in Terraria was with friends. It'll most likely be a small private server, but I'd be willing to try out a big server.

A bunch. I already have over twenty hours, and the only reason why I haven't played more is due to the impending character wipe.

I prefer to use two-handed weapons. Sure, it's a bit boring, but it gets the job done. I usually only kill the hostile mobs. I only kill the passive ones when I'm grinding for pixels.

Eh, I don't really build much on the surfaces of planets. I guess my base could be considered my ship because that's where I put all of my stuff. For the biomes, forest, because I'm generic like that. xD

1. I will play everything but the Apex. Cause the idea of being an extra hairy slightly devolved human (with better intelligence?) just doesn't appeal to me. To each their own!

2. I can see myself roaming the alpha sector until I find a Glitch castle, wherein I shall eliminate the guards and make it my own. (Any survivors shall be my slaves! Mwuhahaha!)

3. I personally love hunting down the neatest things the game has to offer. Like some sort of train that runs on the blood of its fallen foes I shall never rest until each planet has been razed and plundered.

5. Oh gosh, I don't know. Sometimes I can play for a long while, but other times I'm offline for a month.

6. My combat style consists of finding a shotgun with bouncing plasma ammo and then spamming it like crazy. It doubles as a flashlight!

7. My main base is of course Treasure Planet, which will hold the plunder of a thousand worlds. Probably some gigantic alpha level grassland world where I will make a massive underground storehouse.

What drew me to Starbound in the first place was the unique mixture of space exploration and survival (as many argue space exploration is our only assurance of survival at some point). I think that many people do not seem to grasp that high-tech civilization cannot be transported so easily. Space exploration will necessitate a large degree of starting over, and science fiction hasn't done a very realistic job of addressing logistic challenges.

I only mention this because my initial desire is to play out the fantasy from the human experience. I'm not sure how well I can articulate how personally meaningful it is to be a human character. Even so, I recognize that this is a game and (perhaps unfortunately) the way that it is structured/implemented gives me pause. I can appreciate that several cultures are being represented, and on some level having the races at different stages of "advancement" (medieval, modern, etc.) does seem fair. The problem for me is mixing and matching.

I am aware that all game assets are available to all races by one means or another, which makes me happy. What makes my choice difficult is the seeming unlikelihood of obtaining one race's assets while playing as another. Ideally I would be an Asian human from the start, without luck dictating whether I have the Japanese inspired assets available to me. This is not an option. I can be a "modern" human and have to work/play for an unknown amount of time hoping to find the Hylotl blueprints and/or assets, or I can be Hylotl and lose the satisfaction that being human would provide.

The problem is that I do not know how available one race's assets are to another. Technically possible is useless to me if it is statistically unlikely to happen. Ultimately, I think my love of Asian cultures outweighs my want to be human, and I will enjoy being Hylotl for my primary character for the simple convenience of quick/guaranteed access to their game assets. The apex is the least appealing and very unappealing to me, whilst all the others are somewhat appealing.

I've played for over 50 hours (about 5 human attempts and 2 Hylotl characters) and have yet to travel anywhere beyond the starter planet. This is not satisfying or deliberate but the result of my difficulty playing at this stage. My best guess is that I will take my time 1) trying to find a "easy" starter planet and 2) hording resources to prep for the unknown (I wish I knew more about the rest of the game, but I am not progressing at a preferable pace).

Quests would be preferable. Exploring is close second.

I have had a difficult enough time finding resources on my own. I don't want to imagine how much grief multiplayer will cause. I have no friends to play with.

I have an urge to play this game that dominates my desire to do anything else. I do imagine I will play this game exclusively until I am tired of it, but I have no idea when that might happen.

I can live without combat in my games. It is not my idea of fun, its abundance is tedious, and as is I find it an impediment to doing what I really want to in this game. My first attempts to play I had no chance of beating most monsters. I am relying on what I consider exploits to play at all: encapsulating myself in dirt, and just burrowing through the ground until I can acquire the resources to gear up. It is a small thing, but the fact that monsters cannot dig through dirt when aggro'd seems broken.

I prefer not dying. I suppose if I have to answer at all, that I prefer ranged as a combat style. I don't want to fight everything I come across, but in order to get anywhere I don't see what choice I have.

Using the ship as the main base seems wisest, from what little I know/experienced. I don't know what biome it is, or if it is the result of one at all, but I am enjoying the starter world that does not get cold at night most.

Novakid, all day. Im an absolute fiend for all things western, and they just ooze cool. Im using the novakids + mod, as i could not wait for the official release.

I tend to do a little RP with characters, so my first priority was to find a gun merchant, but after that, Im now looking for a planet to settle.

I ADORE crystal biomes. I intent to have 1 home base.

Enough for my friends to finally see the no-lifer side of me

6. What combat style do you prefer? Melee, Ranged, etc. Will you fight every enemy you come across?

Melee for the most part but the sniper rifles look so good it is hard to resist using ranged xD

7. Are you going to have one "Main" base, multiple smaller bases or just wander around? What biome do you think you'll enjoy the most?

No important/beautiful builds till world wipes are no longer a possibility, but I plan on making a big base in an alpha sector planet so my other characters can get to it with ease since they share the same universe with all your other characters.
