1. I'll probably be Apex. Starting with all-vegetarian recipes appeal to me, since I would much rather have a banana farm than go out hunting with a bow. Also all of their weapons and armor look cool.
2. Probably to mine and explore as much as possible once I get to tier 3 and unlock some of the good stuff. I'll probably be a farmer and explorer.
3. Finding dungeons and exploring the planets for treasure and varied combat encounters in new and exciting bunkers and complexes. I am very much a treasure hunter.
4. I'll probably play with my GF if I can get her to try the game, and on some public servers, Probably large ones.
5. With a game like this, potentially I'll still be playing it from time to time years from now.
6. I like a varied approach, right now I'm looking for a good gun while fighting with a sword in one hand, and a banana in the other. =p
7. I set up a main base as a banana farm, and have multiple characters use the facilities and farmland on that planet. Once I get some more efficient fuel I might set up multiple bases or just have all my stuff aboard my ship. I'm working on perfecting a shipboard banana plantation. My favorite biome so far is probably the arid or desert one, ore is easy to dig up when it appears topside, and there are some interesting bunkers.

I'm currently playing a human. I generally find humans most appealing in games I play. Though, I may play an Apex or Novakid because they look pretty rad.
2. What are your plans for your first character? Rush through to the highest danger levels? Be a peaceful farmer?
My first character will probably be my roleplay character. I find a one solar system that I like a lot. (Usually by if it has Earth-like planets as my character longs for his homeplanet). I set up a temporary base and mine the planet randomly. I'm against completely stripping planets of their resources. Sp, I usually hop planets, setting up base as I go(because building is fun). Eventually, I hop solar systems and occasionally entire sectors.
3. What do you like to do in the game? Is mining something that never gets boring to you? Are you a treasure hunter?
So far, my favorite thing to do is to discover all the new kinds of planets. I'm astounded by anything new. New creature skills, new weapons, new craftables, new biomes. Because of this I choose to play at a very slow rate. Exploration loses it's fun once you find everything.
4. Are you going to play with other people? If so, with friends or on a big/small public server?
Occasially, I do jump on servers. I still roleplay though. I simply pretend that I found an inhabited planet on my travels. I do plan on playing mostly solo though.5. How many hours do you think you're going to play?
I've already play too many. Steam says I've play 190 hours but that's insane. I'm just gonna say that I've been playing for atleast 6+ a few hours a day. Sometimes I miss a day, but I play a lot.
6. What combat style do you prefer? Melee, Ranged, etc. Will you fight every enemy you come across?
I prefer melee with a shield. A good shield and a fast, high-DPS 1-handed is all I'll ever need. Sometimes, I use high attack speed 2-handed when fighting in open spaces.
7. Are you going to have one "Main" base, multiple smaller bases or just wander around? What biome do you think you'll enjoy the most?
I'm a space nomad. I travel by the solar winds. I usually build a semi-permanent base on the planet that resembles Earth most. So far, I love any biome with green grass and blue water. After I get bored, or gather enough resources, I leave the planetary system in search of a new home.

 

Floran -- they're just adorable, in their primitive/stabby way. Humans are a bit too staple, they're everywhere ;-)... Me and my friends are going to anyhow check each and every species, though Floran was/is the one I felt most attached to right away.

Explore, and explore some more... Lots to do, lots to do... Probably dipping to the high(est) level places only to gather resources - mainly prefer quite easy going style.

... um, it's a long list of things. Tinker around, explore around, build this and that, go here and there and elsewhere...

Playing with my a few friends of mine on our private server. IF some public server comes around that's 100% stable, might give such a check through though.

Human, he seemed to be the most interesting at the time, but probably going to move to glitch. Being a robot seems like more fun.

Rush to the end ASAP. That way I have access to everything. Once max level I just run around a planet and look for items, I never dig.

I like to look for cosmetic items.

Probably single player, don't know anything else that plays.

Until I get sick of the game.

Melee, as of right now max level melee combat is rough since the enemies do so much damage and there is little way to heal it without blowing through resources. This causes me to run past every enemy.

I like having one main base. I like earth and nature type biomes.

I haven't seen the Glitch high level armor yet, unless it looks really stupid I'll probably play as one of them. They seem kind of like a mix of Mega Man and Robo from Chrono Trigger. Hylotl seem cool, too, and Novakids look like they might be neat.
The races which don't appeal to me at all are the humans and apex. Not weird enough for me.

Rush through to max level and get the best gear and tons of fuel, then explore. I'll probably do a comic about it or something.

My favorite thing to do in these types of games is typically to build stuff, like buildings and fortresses and stuff. Don't know how relevant that will be in the final game, though (it's kind of pointless now). Aside from that, I like to wander around and see new things.
Mining is something that frequently gets boring to me, if there was some other way of getting ore (trading or something) I'd spend more time doing that instead.
Treasure hunting, not so much. If there was some kind of system of finding clues and maps, or something, that would be fun, but the current way it's implemented (where you just wander around and randomly come across chests which may have legendary weapons in them or may just have 15px and some iron ore) it's not too interesting to me.

I might play with friends, if anyone I know sets up a server. More likely I'll spend most of my time single player, though.

Pff, I dunno, depends how much there is to do.

For combat style, I'm generally as cheap as possible. Find a strategy that the enemy can't react to and then do it. Wall them up, shoot at them, lure them through poison/lava, whatever. When that fails, I generally find melee combat to be easier in this game than ranged.

7. Are you going to have one "Main" base, multiple smaller bases or just wander around? What biome do you think you'll enjoy the most?
Unless something changes and there's some reason to build something on a planet, I'm probably going to have my main base be on my ship. Assuming you can upgrade it to be about 2 or 3 times as big, I should have plenty of room in there for everything.

 

I had to quote the original post so I could answer the questions =p

1. I love the avians and the Florans the most out of all the races and I did choose avian as my first character however if it gets deleted following an update, maybe I'll choose floran next.
2. Well I started on my alpha planet and built a little base with a farm. Once I realized it cost a lot of fuel to travel the galaxies, I moved all of my stored food and crafting thingys into my ship along with all my storage and I vow to not build a main base until I reach further sections in the galaxy or have enough fuel. (I'm on gamma section so far)
3. I love to explore different plants and reach higher tiers of armour. I'm trying atm to find a gun since I need to kill the bone dragon and it slaughtered me when I tried
4. I play with a couple of my friends using hamachi since we can't connect using the in game server on it's own. I'm hoping when the game is sorted a bit more, us three will join a large server and see what other poeple have made out of the game.
5. Anywhere between 200-500 I suppose =D As many as I did with Skyrim.
6. Well I have only used melee so far and I would like a gun!
7. [Refer to question 2] Additionally I enjoy the jungle biomes so far for exploring by the desert biomes so far for mining. I have yet to explore a moon or frozen planet and a bunch of other biomes I have read about.

 

Well, this is kind of late to me, yet, I would like to post here even though I'm already on my impervium armor.

Human, because in games I tend to be pro human. Don't worry, I'm not a xenophobe

I explored uncharted worlds looking for mighty treasure and rewards. I even had in mind taking seed samples from fruits on these worlds so that one day I can settle on one planet and begin a settlement and prepare for humanity's return to the stars! (I'm actually doing it right now, though it's draining all of my pixels...)

I'm more like a treasure hunter, though I like mining too. Every time I go to uncharted worlds and go around the planet, I mine valuable ores that are found on the surface. *EDIT* I forgot, I also hunt down pieces of decorations that seem nice and human like since I'm now making a settlement.

Probably on a public server, though I'm occupied building my human settlement. Those damn monsters keep killing my guards! I'm going to have to build a wall.

5. How many hours do you think you're going to play?
Probably surpassing 100 hours. That's how I know that I really liked the game. I'm already 65 hours in.

I'm always a shooter person in games, but in Starbound I'm making an exception due heavy damage melee weapons give. I'm fond of the two handed in this game. I always fight whatever lurks into the corner.

As I said, I'm building a settlement and it will also serve as my main base of operations. I pretty much prefer the forest/jungle biome worlds.

is Novakid a new race? I haven't seen that before

 

1. Humans! I also can't wait for the Novakids, i love the idea of space Clint Eastwood. I also enjoy Apex's background story... But just can't get over the fact they're monkeys.
2. Progress fast to the level where i'll get a gun and then take my time.
3. All of them! I love mining, fighting, building, exploring - i have an equal dose of each element in my world.
4. Not now, but definiately.
5. I'm going prety no-life until the end of Christmas break that's for sure...
6. Ranged all the way! Okay, maybe sometimes meele, but mostly - run around with guns blazing.
7. I build one hell of a base once... And my character got wiped. Since then i keep, like, everything aboard my ship and will continue to do so, until No-More-Character-Wipes update will come out. Then i'll build a gigant city and populate it with humans.

 

Female Floran, all day erryday. Love the plant-races, played Sylvari in GW2, love the twist on them too. It's nice to see a more tribal plant-race then another nature loving one.

As for weapon..Not sure. So far I've been prefering melee, but maybe if I find a good ranged thing, or something along the line of spells I'll switch to that.

Also might make a Novakid once they come out, but I still prefer my lovely Floran.

 

1. Avian. Racial armor grants glide. Having played Terraria to death I know how important it is to have a way to break your fall. Once I get tech for that, though, it's largely irrelivant. All the races (except floran and apex) Seem nice.
2. Hard and fast! (Giggity!) My plan is simply cut down one tree, mine 12 stone, make a pick, mine more stone, make an axe and hoe, plant my starting crops on ship, cut down a few more trees, (need 200+ unrefined) then dig... Go as deep as I can as fast as I can and only stop when I've got the stuff I need to upgrade my pick or require food. If I luck out with a frog merchant, I may be in tier three planets within the hour.
3. Explore. From what I've seen the higher the planets tier the more diversity there is between them. Once I hit end game I'd like to just explore all the planet types. Hopefully there will be expansive end game content upon full release. Planet specific bosses that can only be summoned by some method restricted to something that naturally spawns on a given planet. (Like the plantera boss in Terraria. Destroy that special flower and BOOM! Boss battle.) I'd love to see lots of that.
4. Hopefully! Games, even good ones, are dull alone. (Though I guess there are a few exceptions to that.)
5. I already have 100 hours in the beta. I'll definitely play a lot.
6. I prefer ranged combat in Terraria. Defense doesn't matter if the enemy can't hit you. Bob and weave!!... That said, ranged combat in Starbound is rather gimped. I've become fond of sword and shield style play. Hopefully they'll implement blocking crits soon.
7. I'll probably settle down on a planet with many moons and create a base on each of those. Course, with the abundance of fuel late game (I have hundreds of rods of plutonium right now and a full fuel tank.) I could probably spread out between different planets. Mmm, certainly going to have a main base on a planet with access to NPCs near spawn. (Having one that sells kiwi, diodria, and wheat is really nice.15k pixels for 1k Key Lime Pies is wonderful.)

 

1. Hylotl - The third eye enhances some of the head wear.
2. & 3. - Explore, find civilization, destroy civilization, rebuild on my home world. Ala Braniac.
4. Tempus ftw. Smaller servers with a few select friends are great.
5. 167 logged since launch thus far.
6. Nothing lives. I like to have plenty of meat and leather for their various uses. Hunting Knife is my new best friend.
7. The Flesh & Bone Biome with brain trees made me feel evil. That is where my main base would be if I'd thought to build there at the time.

Do the sector and tech level upgrades when I decide I need a harder planet, going down into natural caves and artificial structures. I will probably tunnel all the way down on my first home planet and then again in each new sector, to do a basic survey of where my house in that sector is. Oh, and to eat one of every kind of meat being, creature or person. Floran and all that.

I can enjoy mining, especially when I'm able to find the metals that I'm looking for. I really enjoy attacking the settlements, prisons, mines, etc. The way the humanoids have many different fighting styles because of their weapons is makes them fun to fight against. I also like using the first few locations I find as the themes for the house and/or art installation I'm currently working on. I guess you could call me a foun-art artist in that way. I love finding treasue at the end of a difficult set of fights.

I will play with other people. I have a friend who runs a private server, and I'm looking into some of the public ones, but interacting with people would make the experience ten times better. I also really enjoy RP and so that needs other people, too.

Many many. Many many many many. How high is up?

I prefer melee combat with either an attack with a large area and a medium speed or an attack with a small area and a side effect or projectile bonus and a high speed. If there's a laser gun I'll use it, otherwise I'm unlikely to use a ranged weapon more techy than the basic bow and whatever it turns into as you progress.

I will most likely have a 'main' base in each sector, with a home and usually a few art installations on that planet. My ship will most likely get redecorated at whim, depending on what I find on the planet, and it will probably be where I keep my vital supplies: Meat, coal, meat, metal, meat, wood, and meat.

I'll have additional sattellite locations near the base for the sector where I'll probably do some experimental science, like... lava flooding or boss hunting or the like.

I like Melee the best, but i use range just as much, and yes.. Every monster will die...

Always gonna have a main base at the end on a peaceful planet, Maybe a simple grassland biome to relax back on.

 

! . Haven't decided on a favourite race yet but I have yet to play with the Avian option so maybe after that . Kept hoping that the Hylotl would breathe water ....oh well .
2 . My first character was more an explorer than the later ones - I was just learning the game so it seemed logical to to play in explorer mode .
3 .Mining , treasure hunting and finding something new ( first encounter with the mushroom peoples yesterday ) . If it was just about grinding for coal/ fuel , ores and whatever , it would get boring .
4 .Yes . Definitely . Already have gaming mate waiting to set up a server .
5 . Being the sucker that I am for sandbox style games I'll be alternating between this , Terraria , Minecraft and Morrowind for the next 20 years or so .
6 . I am cautious - I'll let off a volley of arrows first , then switch to melee . Melee alone if caught out . Notice that my fave move of double jumping and charging an arrow to let fly on the descent is not as viable anymore !
7 .I have established a main base for my characters though the Apex chap didn't like the smell of humans and moved to a nearby star system . The Hylotl thinks it's too dry so will look for a wetter world as a base . My robotic Glitch chap ( Mr Beam ) decided to build his own pad next to the humans base and the Florian just uses the cultivated land levels - he lives aboard ship .
