2. My plans for when I first get into game is just figuring out everything... Probably levelup a bunch of stuff. try to look cool. Build a house.
3. Some things I love to do in games is Level progression. Exploration, building onto your character. The ol' fun stuff we all love.
4. I'm probably going to play with a group of friends because who want's to play games by themselves? Not moi.
5. Depending on how i like the game. I bet I'll be playing quite a few hours on this game.
6. I personally like Melee style myself, I will most probably dodge some enemies if I'm trying to do something more important.

My first character will be an Avian. When watching some videos about Starbound, I saw an Avian character that looked great. Fell in love right away. There is no race that does not appeal to me, they all have their very unique style. I like the diversity.

I guess I will play it a bit rpg like if you can say so. Just ask myself, what would you do now if you really needed to start from the beginning and with nothing.

From what I have seen so far I love every aspect of the game and I really want to do it all. Just enjoy every feature this game has to offer.

Right now I am trying to get my girlfriend and friends to also play Starbound. I am not sure how big public server will impact the game and my personal experience, so I am not sure yet. Would ne great to have a server for a lot of friends!

Way too many...

I prefer ranged since this gives a more secure feeling. But I must say that I really like the style of melee weapons in this game. And if some enemy attacks me, I will fight back! But I won´t hit friendly creatures.

7. Are you going to have one "Main" base, multiple smaller bases or just wander around? What biome do you think you'll enjoy the most?
I could think of having one big main base, maybe for my friends and myself on a nice wooden planet. And different bases for different purposes. For example a nice mining station on a planet with good ore spots.

I am going to play Hylotyl, apex seem a little useless, maybe they could look a bit more like a gorilla and less like a man

I like to explore with the hopes of finding something cool, whether that is in the ground or above it. Mining can get boring if the caves are too repetitive. I guess I am a treasure hunter

Hard to say, no more than 10 hours a week

I prefer ranged kiting feels good in this game. Yes yes

I keep saying that I will have one base but I always seem to set up on a new planet. It would be cool if you could have a list of planets that you have visited. I don't really have a preference on planets.

 

1. my first race is a Floran I based off of a poinsettia. Love the way they look!
2. I've been progressing at a steady pace and am primarily trying to build a tech house.
3. I think I've mostly been mining and killing things.
4. I sometimes play with my brother, but the game tends to favor solo gathering.
5. I've clocked 22 hours so far, don't see an end yet in sight. It's like Terraria 2.0 in space

 

I end up trying to get the best or strongest gear possible as soon as I can at my own pace, and once I do I'm bored because I'm not creative enough to build good stuff.

A. Definitely loving the Avian race, Hylotl looks great as well and cannot wait for Novakids, although Apex

A. Working on making a powerful character, then will end up looking for the perfect home planet and start decorating it.

A. I like looking for Weapons and unique equipment, techs are pretty nifty but once you find the one you like, ya just stick with it for the entire characters life.

A. Got a few friends so we could all play our first character together.

A. Depends on how often this game will be updated and how much of a difference it would make when each race ends up having their special ability of some sort.

A. Can't go without the classic Sword and Shield and I tend to avoid things that don't aggro on me.

A. I'll be making my base once I'm done with completing my character, the Jungle biome seems to be my favorite.

I enjoy the Flesh Biome.

Living the world, digging around, building lovely things. And finding the secret planet of the pinguin...

Love mining - fast feeling of success. You dig, you get something. Love treasure hunt - fast feeling of success. You hunt, you get something. Love big crushy weapon for stabbing Hylotl!

With friends on an own server. Parallel a little public multiplayer, depends on friends time.

Initial time every day some hours, later every week some hours, later every month some hours.

Ranged. No.

We will have a main base (everyone with an own room with one leader, who sets the building restrictions) and I'll have a dynamical spacebase while moving around (with a lot of plants!! And Floran inhabitants). Building some little bases just here and there for fun (parallel a little in public multiplayer and building here and there something for player encounter - love to surprise others)

 

Having played for about 3 weeks now, I feel pretty comfortable answering!

1. Been playing as a Glitch, but might move over to Hylotl in the event of another wipe.

2. Mostly I'm into slaughtering everything with 2h swords and axes. Really into exploring, mining and dungeon crawling. NEVER A FARMER. I'd like to get more into base building, but again, I'm waiting on the last wipe.

3. Both mining and treasure hunting are a ton of fun. Unless the ore I want is in cobble or harder material, because I'm lazy.

4. I play almost exclusively with some friends, which is a change in my play style. I typically don't care for multiplayer games, but Starbound is a lot of fun with other people.

5. How many hours do you think you're going to play?
5. I've already clocked around 30 in the beta, so this is almost impossible to estimate.

6. Melee, although ranged is nice for those pesky birds. I used to fight everything, but now I mostly just fight off hostile mobs.

7. Mostly I've just been a space vagabond, traveling from planet to planet in search of precious ores, tech and weapons. My ship's pretty rad though!

I'm gonna try all the races eventually until I find my favorite, so far I've played through as a floran and glitch.

First was a floran, took it easy and figured out how to play, built humble bases. 2nd playthrough my only base was my ship and I sped through all the tiers >

My favorite thing is definitely exploring and finding villages and dungeons. Being a treasure-hunter, so to speak.

I've played with my friends a bit on small servers, and then mostly by myself. Once the game is free from wipes though I'm gonna work on forming an awesome fortress/city on an online server.

5. How many hours do you think you're going to play?
I could easily still see myself playing this years and years down the road.

I like fighting with a sword and shield, and especially rely on flying around with butterfly boost to dodge and flank the enemy. I only fight hostile mobs, so far I've only killed one friendly villager in a grisly accident when trying to defend them.Q.Q

At first I just had small outposts dotted about the various planets, lately my ship has been my only base however. I do plan on making a huge base eventually though, once I find a good place to settle.

I plan to try all the races through the beta, or at least most of them. On release I will proably play as Apex or Glitch.

The races that dont appeal me at all are humans, cause I find them a bit plain compared with the other races and Hylotl cause the seem too pacifistic in a really naive way and don't fit my playstyle.

First character was (and I thought this beforehand) a test to get used with the game emchanics, now first serious character was an explorer, just wanting to take a look at the diversity available in the game, mostly interested in exploring different planets.

I like to explore new planets and then build a base in a remote one where I can store my findings, start a farm and feel comfortable. Mining gets oring when that's all I do or when it goes too slowly, but I always get encouraged to mine more as I find interesting biomes, resources to craft strange furniture or strange alien plants deep inside.

I mostly play solo although I am open to play with friends, perhaps in small public servers if the community is nice someday.

5. How many hours do you think you're going to play?

That is hard to tell as with this sort fo game I normally get ored after a while then keep coming ack, in terraria I got 685 hours so far, most of them spent building, so who knows how much I can acumulate when I not only want to uild a lot ut also explore a lot?

I like a combination of melee and ranged although my main attack is melee and I use ranged mostly as support to exploit opportunities. The fact that some melee weapons have somewhat ranged damage make this hard to answer though. About enemies I try to avoid unnecesary fights, fighting everything gets tedious for me even if I can kill them in one hit.

7. Are you going to have one "Main" base, multiple smaller bases or just wander around? What biome do you think you'll enjoy the most?

If I could mark multiple planets I would have a main base and multiple small ones for long voyages. Since you only seem to be able to have 1 home planet at the moment, I guess I'll stick with the single big one. As for my favourite biome, for living, moon, I like looking at space all day though the glass of my ase as for exploringit is hard to tell, I like the snow planets mini biomes (geometrical, spheres) but I mostly enjoy the biomes hidden inside the planet so it's hard to answer.

 

1. Floran, no reason why, but I did enjoy their backstory (Stabbbsssss) Not interested in the others really.
2. My Floran is a world conqueror, I 3D print Bone Carving statues and place them near the spawn of every planet I visit with her, each signifying I own that planet. If I find any other carvings standing on the planet, I take them down, leaving the florans around them to shudder in fear. Any other races I find I destroy, any Apex not only get destroyed, but also have their civiliations razed to the ground. *Maniacal cackle* MUAHAHAHAHA!
3. CONQUERING! ... and playing the overdrive guitar.
4. I play with a small group on a server I host.
5. I've played dozens of hours thus far.
6. Dual grenade (shrapnel & cluster), Grenade Launcher + Shield, 1H + Shield, or Bonehammer. Usually Dual Grenade on Sector X planets.

Ranged, although so far after many lvl 10 worlds in sector X it is very hard to come across any weapons that are better than my poisonous bone throwing hammer axe...

My base is my ship. I like the mini biomes mixed in the normal biomes.

 

1. I've tried every race but they just aren't that great. I can't get into them. I plan to play as a Novakid, because they look AWESOME. But that's a long way away...
2. I want to take it slowly, have time to breath in the game, enjoy the long-awaited and legendary Starbound.
And also to have TONS of items .
3. I really like to build. I feel that that aspect has been improved a lot since Terraria. And I don't care if Minecraft is better for building because it's 3D, I like 2D more.
4. I plan to have my one Novakid character be for single-player and for LAN with friends, but not public servers. Even if they say they're organized, they aren't ever really "organized".
5. Hundreds upon hundreds, should I make it a goal to get to one thousand? I'm already at 76.
6. Melee, just because I haven't gotten into the guns part of the game. The bows aren't that great especially because now you need energy to fire an arrow. It makes sense, because where are you going to get the arrows? Can you really just pull back an arrow breathlessly? And why would I fight EVERY enemy I come across? (I actually might, for pixels and mob-drops)
7. I plan to, when they are implemented, to live on an ocean planet and make a MONSTROUS village with multiple houses for different uses. It will end up being my main base,
but it's nice to have stuff in the ship so you don't have to go back all the time.

 

Florans and Hylotl are by FAR my 2 favorite races in the game, followed closely by the NovaKids. I think I will only have 2 main characters though and they will definitely be Floran and Hylotl. They're SO awesome! 2 best races in the game! I love how vicious and savage the Florans are instead of being so peaceloving, they remind me of a Venus Fly-Trap, the plant that eats meat as well as producing chlorophyll. The Hylotl's will have underwater cities and civiliztions, how could you get any better than that?! AWESOME! My only issue is that there isn't really any difference in playing the different races, by which, I mean that when playing a fish person, they still cannot breathe underwater like a human. Hylotl's should be able to breathe underwater, Floran ships should be able to use wood for fuel and different races should have to wear biome suits for different biomes that they couldn't breathe in or that would be toxic to their race.

It would be nice if maybe Avian's could fly for short periods of time and Apex had super strength etc... This game is AWESOME though!

Oh and my favorite thing to do in game is build my homesteads. I love making my bases and homes, collecting things throughout the galaxy to make my home special and nice. I love building as well, so that is fun! I plan on making my Floran a beautiful Rainbow Treehouse with a mushroom Guest house next to it.

EDIT: I also LOVE farming! I wish there was some way to have alien farm animals and such, collect alien chicken eggs and you could run your own farm. More recipes would be AWESOME! I also love having a functioning kitchen in game with lots of different cakes, pies and entree's for my friends to come and get out of my fridge.

I usually always have an EXTENSIVE farm, many tiers high with wheat and other goodies growing.

Although if I play on multi player it will probably be more so of a "lets find the biggest bad thing and beat it up" type play style.

4. Are you going to play with other people? If so, with friends or on a big/small public server? Planning on setting up a Hamatchi server with some friends - so yes I will play with other people and it will be pretty small (about 4 of us total)

5. How many hours do you think you're going to play? I've already got about 4 hours plugged into the game so I can easily see myself playing for quite a few hours.

6. What combat style do you prefer? Melee, Ranged, etc. Will you fight every enemy you come across? I personally like ranged, but have been using the awesome axe of doom I found. No, I won't fight every enemy I come across - most of the time I try to run away.

I will be a wander with a main base - and a treasure stash on my ship. So far I've only seen an ice biome and a weird foresty one. The foresty one is much nicer IMO.

 

The way I play is just pick a random race, get some gear, and run in a Radom direction while picking at the surface veins of ore until I get killed. I keep that up till I have enough fuel to jump.

 

1. I like Glitch, Avian, and Floran quite a bit. Humans are in every game and are boring, and Apex are monkies. Not sure what the deal with Novakids is at all.
2/3. I'm an explorer. I look for things that are interesting, which typically includes treasure. I'm yet to find a planet I WANT to make 'mine', but I'm sure I'll find one eventually.
4. Yes. I'm looking into a private server option for us too.
5. ...if Terraria is any indication, too many.
6. I don't like ranged in Starbound so far. Too many draw backs, not enough advantages.
7. Eventually there will be a main base, but most of my planets don't even HAVE a base on them. As to biome, I dunno yet. It WOULD have been Volcanic had that stupid Melting status not been added in. >.>

 

I find myself to like Hylotls and Avians. Floran's pretty cool too. Apex and Human are boring. Glitch and Novakid I don't know what their deal is.
Already set up two characters, a male Hylotl and a female Avian.
So far I've been sticking with surface exploration and no permanent bases, though I may establish something more permanent if I take to underground mining.
I foresee myself preferring melee overall. My Hylotl's already taken to stabbing things with a spear, while I plan one-handed swords for my Avian.
