I know this is not the thread for that, but damn. every 3 messages someone says that. Apex are the most missundertood race ;_;
Apex are probably the most intelligent race in starbound, Novakid don't count because of their short attention span. They traded their physical evolution progress to psychically get ahead of other races, on a side note english is hard.

I like snow and dessert biomes and I will for sure wander around and try not to stick at one base. Multiple small ones will do it.

Other than how they look, they don't offer any concrete gameplay advantages or disadvantages so I really don't care which I start with.

Explore the universe find a suitable base of operations establish shop and go and raid, pillage, mine, and explore more of the universe.

Mining is need and therefore is essential, and it helps that its not boring, and that there is incentive. I also love the platforming aspect for fun treasure hunting.

Private server with 3-6 friends

Played 26 hours since release. Loving it so far. Love the vastness. There can be more variety in planet types and environments, but overall still fun.

One main, and a couple of satellite bases. I'm agnostic to most biomes but do enjoy moons. I'd like forward operating base to be on a dangerous planet (exceptionally cold or some such thing)

There are a lot of treasures on the surface of Starbound. I'll definitely do my share of mining to the core of some planets and moons but I'm more interested in the sights.

Don't plan on staying in one spot long and have already used my ship extensively for all my needs. If there's a biome similar to Terraria's underground jungle, I'll be there.

I started out as a Floran. After it was deleted by the update, I became a Glitch. Those two are definitively my favorites, and I prefer the aesthetic of the Glitch by far. I'm definitely not an Avian or Apex fan, although I like the Apex theme. I think the Glitch might become my favorites.

As a Floran I was cautious. I just dug my way to find the best resources to improve my weapons and tools before dealing with that horrible penguin UFO the distress beacon summons. I was lucky, because it apparently got stuck in a way that it could get hit with my arrows without seeing me, so I kept shooting for a full in-game day/night cycle until it asploded quite anti-climactically.
Now I'm a Glitch, and I find that cautious scavenging is the way to go for me.

Exploring exploring exploring. Finding stuff and stealing it. Mining does get a bit boring, so I don't usually strip veins of their every content unless it's a rare element or coal (because fuel).

YESSSSSSSSS. Friends would be awesome, but I need them to get this first. Public servers sound nice too, in theory.

That amount of time cannot be measured in hours.

I haven't gotten to modern weapons, so I don't know yet.

Several small bases is more my style, with a lot of wandering. I think so far the greener biomes are the most pleasant. By greener I mean with more vegetation. Snow is cool too because a lot of resources seem to be buried under soft ground.

My character is a Supreme Commander of the USCM, so pretty much I'm going to go around spreading order and justice and stuff, and destroy deadly alien tentacle planets and penguins

Not a big fan of mining, I like exploring dungeons, combat, and 'borrowing' stuff to pimp out my spaceship

Ranged, my main weapon is going to be an assault rifle that fires blue lasers, but I also want a blue Lightsaber and a blue laser pistol. I'm only going to attack enemy races, enemies who attack me and people who piss me off xD

My main base is going to be an earth-like planet (preferably with a moon biome nearby), and I'll slowly expand to nearby planets until I've conquered an entire sector

 

On to the main event!

Hylotl at first, then maybe Flora. Possibly Human. Doubtful apex/nova/glitch ever.

Same as last two times... build a sukiya-zukuri style house, interior garden, koi pond, and set up a few greenhouses...get a crafting area below it... and once it's sustainable...
Then on the next planet a stairway to hell, a stairway to heaven..

..and once the asteroids are stripped and a small house is built in the planet's core (of ice for the lulz), loot every damned installation on every planet everywhere..

Mining is a means to building.. the building is the fun. That and making deathtraps. Treasure is just blueprints for more things to build~
Note: Enemy forts are just pre-collected treasure awaiting liberation

Hosting a server for my guild at the moment, but once we're out of beta, moving it onto the Guild's server. For now it's small, later? maybe get a few dozen guildmembers playing it, in the downtimes of their preferred MMOs.
The XP issue was a surprising stumbler for a few of them.

Per day? Week? LIfe? Steam says I'm already at 124...but it's probably going to be 15ish hours in a week

Right now, using a Swashbuckler Lite and Littletooth. Go go nitenichi~

Main planet, then a staging base per planet.
Hate/love snow biomes. The temperate forest biome is nice. Dislike the toxic one. Arid is okay, but add in lava and it's visions of Mustafar..
Haven't experienced enough biomes yet to make a final choice.

My real style of fighting is Melee, but it can get tricky to hit enemies on the various terrains of Starbound

I have a share between Hylotl and Floran. Hylotl remind me of another race I like, and Florans... well, they look awesome, and their story is intruguing.

I am no speedrunner, thank you! And I have other plans for peaceful playthrough... I'd play as usual: slow progress.

A-D-V-E-N-T-U-R-E. Mining is sometimes boring, but at times things get chaotic... And usually I do gather any things that may be of use to me.

If you have a server specifically for RP, I'm absolutely in!
Other than that: usually solo. Or with friends.

Ranged combat with guns. And if enemy is hostile to me and tries to bite off my face, then YUS.

In Terraria I had one main base. I'd say that it would be the same setting here.

I'm a parasitic planet pirate. I set up camp and raid the planet. I have a home planet where I farm every plant I pillage from other planets and basically have a home base.

I game solo and with friends on a server. (Small group of friends I know in person)

Too many.

If I'm stronger than the opponent, I a blade of sorts...preferably fast and strong. If I'm outmatched, I use a range weapon and have dirt on me so I can quickly surround myself and mine my way out danger with a good pickaxe.

Both. I don't know for sure but I like planets that have the eyeball trees a lot.

 

1) I'll be playing Hylotl due to enjoying oriental themes. I would have played either the Floran, Glitch, or Avian since they all have something going for them that I like, but something else that really just drives me away. I love the idea of Plant people, but being savages is a major turn-off for me. (GW2 Sylvari are my favorite plant people). I love synthetic races, but being stuck in the medieval times really counters that for me. And while I like bird people, I like them more like Tengu in mythology, not just anthropomorphic pet-birds.

2) Get enough resources from the first planet before setting off to find a planet to settle down on, then spend most of the time building it up to look nice and be functional.

3) Crafting, hands down. I'm a huge nut for being able to craft my own gear and gear for others. It's a very prideful feeling.

4) Hopefully playing with a small group of friends, with bouts of solo play in-between.

5) It all depends on how much content gets added in. Aside from being a huge fan of crafting and exploring, I'm also a major lore fan, so I'll be majorly obsessed with story progression and racial backstory once my home is set up.

6) I'm very much a ranged fighter, personally. My ideal fantasy character is someone who uses a Bow or Sniper Rifle as a primary weapon, with dual wielded Daggers or Pistols (depending on the in-universe setting) for when an enemy gets into close combat range.

7) Definitely going to have one main base on whatever planet I call home. On the surface it'll have all the crafting and cooking related stations, as well as plenty of functional decorations to make the place look nice, with a couple chests and cabinets for storing thematic goods. (Fridge and ice chest for foods, for example) I'll also have two underground sections accessible from the main house. One just for tons and tons of chests to store all my random gubbins, and one to be a farm for all of the crop growing. Will also probably have the crafting stations and a couple 'necessity' decorations (Tables, beds, a desk) in my ship to look nice there as well.

 

1.) I like to play as a Glitch, mainly because their gender signs are both creative (and suggestive ) and I cannot pass off on a chance to play as a robot, EVER. I dislike the Apex, because I just... don't find any appeal in playing as a primate. :U

2.) My characters are always building/spelunking-based, as I never really care for the combat until VERY late parts of games. I love to make my houses pretty and big... so, this character will be no different!

3.) Mining gets boring to me when I run out of things to make, but before all of that it's really exciting! I love finding a huge deposit of a mineral I need and cheering really loud. xD

4.) I'd like to play with friends, but unfortunately since I have 32-bit Windows the server doesn't run that well; so, I just play solo for now. On occasion I connect up with my friends and play musical instruments or something.

5.) In this stage of beta:
80-100.

In the final product:
Put the former to the 5th power.

 

1.) Well when the Novakid are added i'm making one of them, but till then i'm making a Floran.

2.) I plan to play this game like i did Minecraft and Terraria, with a focus on progression, yet not rushing though content. Pretty much explore and find goodies, mine a bit, farm build a cool looking base, and move on. Although with starbound i'll be adding on to my base with the items, and materials of other places like the Glitch castles, where the glitch always try to kill me, or the Prisons that Avian's are keeping Floran's in (despite my race they still attack me.)

3.) loot, all the different kinds of items weapons and guns you can find while exploring, because mining does get boring after a while, but exploring doesn't as long as it remains dangerous and difficult.

4.) I play alone and with friends, on a small server that is ran from my house.

5.) I've already put 83 hours in, i figure since i put 247 hours into Terraria and even more into minecraft, this game will most likely see over 300 hours of gameplay from me.

6.) I prefer sword and shield with ranged as a back up, The shield helps me block some extra damage, while the ranged weapons will ensure that i can take down other ranged users without having to take on extra danger. When we play on the server, I normally stand in front with my shield and just block bullets while my friends hammer down the pain for afar, till my brother decides to go Rambo an rush in killing anything left.

7.) I prefer One Main base WITH smaller bases. One base in each Sector, and small little bases on planets i plan to revisit, and my Main base being on my home planet. As for biome's It's hard to say, they all have there benefits, but if i had to choose is would say this one, in which i tunnel into the ground and build my starter base like so.

Chosen Race: APEX!! They're packed with 1984 references, have a militaristic background and look like star-fleet admirals, definitely a space faring race. Plus I like their racial armor bonus and Apex players are a rarity in this game judging by the people who dislike them as characters.

Appealing Races:
Avian (I get to play as Falco from Starfox? Awesome!)
Glitch (medieval robots, what's not to like)
Novakid (enjoy the western treads they wear)

Neutral:
Hylotl (maybe but nothing much to say about this race, maybe more needed for their lore?)

Non-Appealing Races:
Floran (aesthetically they look like weird green versions of the grey men, plus their tribal back-story needs work)
Human (ok, but apart from their clothing nothing interesting in a sci fi game)

First playthrough I played it straight, got to beta planets before the wipe.

Current playthrough I'm trying to mine plenty of iron and rush my way back to at least the beta sector. Hoping to get a pet along the way.

Exploration is my favorite, mining is part of the exploration and getting ore is secondary for me (means to an end).

Definitely play in multiplayer, most likely make friends on the way and will stick to medium sized servers. Big ones tend to be very laggy at the moment and small ones are usually private or password protected.

Not sure, depends on whether or not I have free time. Maybe an hour per sitting so a few hours a week?

I prefer 2 handed weapons, melee for ground monsters and guns for anti-air. Until I progress to a point where my armor is decent I won't be fighting every enemy, not to mention I would wait until I at least get the refinery to be reckless with my lives. Pixels ain't cheap at the starting point.

Homeworld will have my main storage and collection base. If I want to store voxels I might just have a pirate base to hold my loot.

Smaller bases would be established only if I find the planet useful (IE merchants, ore, villages).

Biomes I enjoy the most are Arid for mining, Forest for wood and exploration, Snow for battle (not sure why, feels more satisfying that I get to fight in a snowy backdrop).

 

A space Nomad...A Human armed to the teeth with an arsenal of technology and firearms...Ready to take on any obstacle that stands before him! Who needs a home planet? I have my ship!

Work my way up! Move on when I get all the stuff from my current tier, then keep on moving forward

Exploration is my favorite thing to do, and mining is sort of coupled with that in this game, so I tend to do a lot of both of the above.

A mixture, actually. With a new character, I get him to at least full copper on single player, but past that, I have a -lot- of friends playing this game, so i'll never really be sticking to single player past that.

Well, I've already put in over 30, in only four days. X) At first, yeah, I'm playing it a lot. Will it last longer than Terraria did for me? (Aka a month or so) Most likely, especially since I'm only seeing beta content.

Mostly melee, honestly. I only use the ranged for the DAMN BIRDS. Yes, I will fight every enemy I find, with a hunting bow/knife at first, until I have enough leather for the leather outfit, then just with regular weapons past that.

My ship is my base. I do hope you guys add the ability to make ships bigger for this reason, I love decorating my ship. My ship's my base pretty much because I play on so many different servers, so I'm a bit of a 'nomad' if you will. As for biomes, my favorite so far is -definitely- moon.

- Explore whatever I can. I mind neither going a bit fast nor slow.

- Building stuff..I love being creative.

- I usually play solo, I mostly like to take my time to check out whatever I want without having to worry about holding anyone back.

- Of the stuff that are in-game atm I dual wield 1h's. Never much been a 2h or tank gal.

- I'll probably end up having a main base once I reach end-game and have some smaller bases on places I find good to farm ores etc. But first I need to find "my" planet, one that I like visually, then I can start building a large home base there!

I get bored of mining after awhile. I like to explore and try to find houses/NPCs to interact with, so I guess I'm a treasure hunter.

With friends. Maybe on a server in the future.

I usually prefer melee but the weapons I've come across so far don't work the way I want them to. I only fight something if it attacks me.

I thought I'd enjoy the snow biome the most, but it's a tie between snow and forest. I create a lot of bases and have my main base in my spaceship. Haven't found a place to settle down yet.
