1. Human, male. I'd like to think humans can relate one way or another to the other species, as diverse and great as they are, and a human can balance things out.
2. I want to be a drifter, roving from one place to another, but I gotta get sufficient resources to handle what comes my way before that, so I will hunker down and amass provisions.
3. I can do a bit of everything, but I enjoy interacting with other players and with NPCs, and exploring relationships I can establish with given individuals or groups. Most of all, I like a good adventure.
4. I do want to play with others but like I said, I want to be an addition to the team, not a liability, so I will get some gear on my own first, or join up with newbies so we're on level footing.
5. As often as possible, in the range of 20-40 hours a week.
6. Melee mostly. I do wanna get a hold of some guns and go space-marine on stuff but I have a melee-mindset for now.
7. I'm gonna be a drifter for sure. My ship will be my base, my home, and my baby, I'll deck her out and upgrade her; once I get the materials, that is!

I made a Glitch first but it didn't appeal to me that much in the end. I re-rolled as an Avian and have been playing that since. I really like the Floran but the Hylotl are probably the weakest race overall for me, simply because the fins are not elaborate or clear enough. It took me a while to work out what they were supposed to be when I first made a character.

2. What are your plans for your first character? Rush through to the highest danger levels? Be a peaceful farmer?
I ended up rushing to the highest danger levels, though I thought at first I'd just take it easy.

3. What do you like to do in the game? Is mining something that never gets boring to you? Are you a treasure hunter?
I like the dungeons the most - finding awesome, secret things (like tech + cosmetic items) is always a very rewarding thing. Thinking about it, I get the most joy out of finding things, from seeds to new biome types.

4. Are you going to play with other people? If so, with friends or on a big/small public server?
I play with friends - a 4 pack was bought and I lucked out in getting one of them, then some more friends joined in.

5. How many hours do you think you're going to play?
Many hours - I play games like this whenever I get the opportunity

6. What combat style do you prefer? Melee, Ranged, etc. Will you fight every enemy you come across?
I currently enjoy the melee implementation the most, however I think that guns have potential. When it's all a bit more developed I'll be able to answer that one again. In most games I tend to default to a wizard-type, so it's quite refreshing to have melee be this fun. I would be interested in a Psionic / "science so far advanced it's magic" / energy mage, as a third weapon type.

7. Are you going to have one "Main" base, multiple smaller bases or just wander around? What biome do you think you'll enjoy the most?
My main base is my ship. I actually (strangely) spend most of my time there, just hanging out enjoying the view while chatting to friends on Steam. I was the first one out of my friends to realise that you could customise the inside of your ship, and my ship became something of an HQ when we were all online, even if I did tend to park over death worlds that wanted to eat your face. In an ideal world, I think I'd be happy with my ship being the main focus. When it's all released I think I'd make a proper base on a planet somewhere, but I love my ship. The biome I currently enjoy the most is probably the jungle. It's so easy to get plant matter and pixels on a nice jungle world, as well as fuel for the ship.

I think I prefer Apex. The Planet of the Apes movies had an impact on me and the style appeals to me. Hylotl don't appeal to me in the least, along with Florans. Maybe that'll change if I see either of them have cool racial abilities. That said I also really don't like Asian styles, so that's another black mark against Hylotl for me.

2. What are your plans for your first character? Rush through to the highest danger levels? Be a peaceful farmer?
For my first "real" character I'd basically just like to explore the universe. No found coordinates, no power leveling, no min-maxing, just kind of taking everything as it comes. I might abandon my original planet and find a suitable "final home" which I'll build up as a bit of an R&R; I probably won't strip mine it or anything.

3. What do you like to do in the game? Is mining something that never gets boring to you? Are you a treasure hunter?
I like to explore and build things mostly. Maybe have some social fun with friends.

4. Are you going to play with other people? If so, with friends or on a big/small public server?
I play with my best friend on my server. I'm open to playing with others as well if they're cool-headed and on the level and just like to relax. You know, we'll play some tunes, do a little mining, find some interesting planets, maybe do a couple dungeons... whatever.

5. How many hours do you think you're going to play?
I logged over 100 hours into Terraria, I could see myself doing the same with Starbound.

Everything else I kind of already answered. My favorite biome will be whatever is most relaxing, right now that's the forest biomes that have the rainy nights and lots of lush green.

 

On to the main answers!
1. I will be starting out with a human, as I like to keep things simple for my main character. My next choice would be Nova Kid though, they look spectacular.
2. I plan on getting comfortable after I've discovered a planet I really like, dig in and farm and stockpile for a while. Eventually I'll explore more and hunt.
3. Mining doesn't really ever get boring, unless I never find anything, but then I just find a new place to mine... so not really even then.
4. I (especially after playing some) will be trying to get a few friends to get the game so I may play online with them.
5. Considering how interesting it is, I'd say a healthy few hours a night, more if it's my weekend!
6. I quite like them both in their own respects. I quite like the freedom of ranged weapons, but I quite like the safe power of an arcing sword.
7. I'll likely have one main base and one main storage facility... of course with different planets and biomes I'll likely have several outposts and mining places out there!

Humans – I always play as human as my first char. Maybe in the future I will try other races. I don't know if playing someone else give u any advantage but it is easier for me to imagine that my human char is me. In wast space, exploring strange new worlds

I don't know jet. It depends, if I find a nice planet then probably I will establish a base on the surface. But for now I will probably be as nomad, traveling light, and don't attach to any stuff people/alien I meet out there

Deep, Deep under the rock there is treasure and a loooot of GOLD

I didn't think of that, and honestly don't know. Probably if some of me friends want to play we can go together in to the stars. Or if I meet people we can as well go together and explore.

It depends 2-3 hours per day / around 10 hours per week or more if I have time

I would like to fight with two handed sword, maybe laser sword

On first nice planet I will establish base. Where I will explore it for day or two, build nice solid shelter. Upgrade my equipment and then go to explore nearest star system. Probably at that point[ after a week or more ] I will abandon my home, and travel to the limits of my ship And who now if I find nice place then maybe I will settle down, a become a farmer in the frontiers.

1. A glitch, i want to make a Cowboy Bountyhunting Robot.
2. Im a Bounty Hunter and a Sellsword/Mercenary Hire me for your Travels and pay with resources but Pixels are prefered hehe.
3. I like to explore and Travel around to find a Big Metropole where i can settle down and open a Bounty hunter Office.
4. Definately online, where my Services are in Demand. either on a big one or starting one with my friend.
5. 100% Sure, more than Terraria atleat double the time *atm at 210 hours so at least 420 hours in Starbound* ^.^

 

1. What race are you going to play, and why? After trying most of them, the Hylotl! Glitch. I love their history and how they became self aware!
2. What are your plans for your first character? I'd love to just explore and discover all the random mobs/items (along with being a peaceful farmer).

1. What race are you going to play, and why?
Hylotl. The oriental flavor appeals to me, plus I really like the racial armor-bonus. Something about them seems really cool. I like the "fish-man" concept quite alot. If I had to choose a race besides Hylotl, I'd choose between Novakid, Glitch, or Floran.

Hylotl Samurai. That's all I gotta say lol.

3. What do you like to do in the game?
I personally like going from world to world treasure hunting. Eventually, once Ocean planets are implemented and I get my racial armor, I'm going to make an Ocean planet my "homeworld", and I'm going to colonize it Bioshock style.

4. Are you going to play with other people?
Sure, if I can find some cool people to play with (or if friends start playing).

5. How many hours do you think you're going to play?
As much as possible once the game releases and all the cool features (like ocean planets) are implemented.

I'm not sure yet. So far I like using long slashing 1-handed weapons with a shield. And if they threaten me at all? Yeah.

7. Are you going to have one "Main" base, multiple smaller bases or just wander around? What biome do you think you'll enjoy the most?
At the moment, my ship is my "main base". Once Ocean biome planets are implemented I'm going to build an underwater city and make it my "main base". Favorite expected biome? Ocean. I REALLY can't wait for Ocean biomes lol.

Hylotl. I really like their calm, zenlike attitude. I always find deep sea humanoids mysterious and interesting anyway since it's a world that is so alien to us, even here on earth.

Build a sprawling underwater metropolis.

Explore and build.

Probably not.

No idea.

I don't really fight unless I have to. I figure Florans are KOS due to the Hylotl backstory though.

Yeah, I suppose the underwater city would be my main base, but you always end up building smaller bases when you go further afield. I think the super-hostile toxic deathworlds will be my favourites. In Terraria I always liked the challenge of building intricate constructions in the most dangerous places. It'd really make you feel like the ultimate frontiersman to build a successful settlement on the most violent planet in the known universe.

• Glitch, or Apex. I like technological extremes. Actually I'm not sure, I'm also fond of the Avian race and generally any Mayan/Aztec mythology but my intent for not choosing Avian is to discover them and like them more

• Explore at my own pace Terraria-style.

• See interesting landmarks, find interesting items, discover interesting things. Mining gets boring for me if it takes seven years to get through rocks :l . Also, I like in-game foods/drinks/edibles and wish to see it become something more different and maybe more useful. Definitely a treasure hunter, I currently travel to planets and dash around to find interesting surface things then leave the planet in search for more.

• I'll play with close friends with the 4-pack I got us. I don't really trust strangers

5. How many hours do you think you're going to play?

• Lots, even more than my current playtime in Terraria if everything goes well for Starbound.

• Ranged for sure. Even melee-ranged hybrids is good enough for me.

• One base, and then scrap it for supplies to go to the other planet/sectors and rebuild a temporary base. Currently, it's difficult to navigate and mark the different places I have been to and want to go. If that is fixed, I will build one main base, and multiple other bases around.

 

I'm probably going to go down a same route as how I play through games like Minecraft and Terraria.

Human, assuming they're the "average" race. I like to start out with the basics and learn what abilities other races have once I get a good feel for the game.

Scavenge ALL the equipment and go exploring.

Exploration! I'd like to settle down once I've gone through at least 50+ hours of exploring.

Probably not. I like the aspect of single-player for these types of games. Although I have no objection against MP.

At least 200.

Ranged and mobile. Sure.

A main base, but nothing too grand. I'd enjoy a nice forest biome because the trees in this game look BEAUTIFUL.

 

1. Human or glitch. I like the simplicity of human form but I also enjoy robots.
2. For my first character I tried to establish a homestead then spent most of my time looking for materials to make it look structurally sound. After the shell was completed I searched (and still am) for objects to populate my house so it looks cozy.
3. I like building things in the game. However mining is very calming (mining a large zone of gravel is quite sexual in pleasure at times).
4. I currently play with a group of my friends but I would very much enjoy playing with others in a public server.
5. I know if I play all in one chunk I'll lose interest in the game so I plan on playing every day for a few hours so I don't get burnt out. Also I work ;P
6. I prefer melee but I have also yet to find a decent ranged weapon so there's that.
7. So far I have only had one main base, but my goal is to find a small planet and turn the entire planet surface into my house. Moons are pretty cool.

When the server software is fully developed, I might host my own server.

I've played Terraria for 96 hours so far, so I'll guess 3-500 hours.

I'll go with a sword and pistol, and I'll try to be as passive as possible.

Mostly Human I think, the other Races later down the Line.

Slow Progress, lot´s of Exploring. That is why I got this Game.

I hate Mining, but it is needed. Treasure Hunts are awesome, exploring the Dungeons seems awesome right now. Also, steal all the cool Materials there!

3 or 4 other Players, small private Server. I hope to become the Main Builder there and send my Minions to get me all the nice Materials. =)

If the Size of the Game can be scaled with Time played, I will compare it to Terraria. In that if have packed over 300 Hours, and there is not that much to do, so...

I like Melee, but the Fact that this Game is more SciFi, I guess everything that shoots something Laserlike will be my Choice.

I will have a Main Base, but not early on. At the Start I will store most of my Stuff on my Ship and travel around like a Nomad.. I hope there will be Options to upgrade the Ship btw, so it gets a bit bigger and carry more Crew around. The NPC Spawners are just great, having a few of those Vendors on my Ship seems like a great Idea, but there is not much Space right now.
In Beta I like the Forest Biomes the most at the Moment. But I have not been outside the The Beta Sector as of yet.

I played Avarian for a pretty long time but I'm going to roll with Hylotl after the new update just because their looks appeal to me ^^

Salvage everything on the very first planet (wood, leather and w/e interesting I can find) then go bezerk on the very next planet.

Treasure hunter here I love to just roam arround, find these camps and just murder all the npc's that are there (ofcourse purchase anything first then kill them).

I'll be playing with friends first and maybe move on to smaller servers.

Probably 1-2 hours a day (because of work/school...) the weekends however are completly dependend on my mood, if it's set to Starbound it'll be 8-9 hours

I LOVE strong single handed guns (preferably not dual guns, just a big desert eagle in one hand which deals the same dammage as a (example) Machine gun bullet. Oh hell yeah, everything in my path is destroyed...

I'll place my flag on a Vulcano island once I come across one, but I'll have multiple islands that I will protect if it ever comes in danger!

 

1 - Avians. I can't help it if they're adorable. Little sparrows and penguins haha. The Floreons are cool too.

2 - I like to explore. Find things. There isnt much incentive for me (yet) to build a base on a planet yet or stick to one spot.

3 - Exploring, discovering, mining. Finding civilizations is one of my favorite things, whether there are inhabitants I can interact with or it's just some lonely or eerie ruins. I'd like to see more stuff underground too, other than gathering resources and causing awesome cave-ins there isn't toooo much of a reason to stay underground yet. I hope more towns, characters, ruins ect are added, or just anything that is different or out of the ordinary. It makes exploring super fun never knowing what you might find.

4 - I mainly plan to play with my other friends on their server. Rampaging planets in solidarity.

5 - Secondstarboundlife

6 - I like the crossbows but they stopped being useful on later planets. I'd like to see them evened out with all the updates. Melee is cool too. I kind of prefer to avoid rather than hack n slash.

7 - So far Ive only used my ship as a base. I probably wont make a planet base. I like the desert biomes for the cave in havoc I can create. The jungle/forest/planty worlds are really cool too. Or any biome that is just awesome and weird. I'm not too wild about freezing on snow planets or avoiding lots of hazards like poison or lava but I'm glad variety exists.

Floran. I like how they look, and I like that they are a violent race.... Although, I do wish they were more intelligent. Avian and Hylotl don't appeal to me at all. Avians I just don't like, and Hylotl I don't like because I can't make one that I think looks good. I think they need more options that look like hair.

I wouldn't say Rush through, but my plan is to get to the highest level and find a nice planet that I can call home ... Then kill all of the people on it (Unless they are Floran) and populate it with Florans, as well as make a giant underground base filled with Florans.

Both! I never get tired of mining ore, but my main goal is to find glorious adventures that end with many treasures. I tend to never dig straight down, I try to always find already existing cave systems and simply connect to another one when I have explored it all. I try to keep in a general downward direction, but I find myself exploring upwards in caves I find a lot.

I usually just have my server up and running for the few friends I have playing Starbound and we all play together.

A lot ... More than I should.

I prefer Sword and Board and Bows... So far It looks like Bows aren't really going to be a part of Starbound though, other than the Hunting bow. :<

If the ship is upgradeable, and is large enough for me, I'll just use my ship. If the ship isn't large enough after upgrades, or it just doesn't really look good (I think the default Floran ship just looks kind of silly) I'll find a home planet... Or take one. As for the Biome, I'll have to wait until I see them all

I'm most likely going to play Hyoltl, why? Space-Alien samurais! Not really diggin the Avians... reminds me of my parakeet.

Get used to combat mostly. I like to fight and explore but I won't venture out unless I'm well prepared. So I'll most likely be a miner/farmer mostly in the beginning, then head out when I'm geared up.

Treasure hunting and fighting mostly. Mining's ok, though I must say I'd rather mine in dirt that stone/magma rock...

I'll look for a public server once I'm used to single player, need to get some knowledge. I don't want to be "that guy" always asking questions or labeled noob.

I put in bout 2-3 hours per day.

I rock the sword/shield combo and finish with ranged for food.

I want one "Main" base. I really like the snow biome but starting off I died from the cold haha. So chop fast and build fires.

 

1. Im playing Glitch because medieval robots are awesome and I also value their mining speed increase, not a fan of the apex even though their propaganda posters are amusing.
2. Im exploring as much of each planet I visit exploring the core aswell as the surface. wouldn't mind becoming a stim merchant if a community was formed.

4. I play with other people but am hesitant to form a large community due to server wipes, when the game is fully released I will join a large community.
