Judging from some things that the mods have said about Power Creep, it might be possible to use the same set of armor for the entire game, but you'll get access to other armors later on that aren't nessicarily better, but do different things.

I dont think there is anything official about it yet but there was something about Apex genetically enhancing themselves to improve intelligence hence also their technology, while this improvement causing a devolution of the physical form to an ape. I was just assuming that their tech would be better. Its not like their racial benefits were officially revealed but the background suggests so.

As for the information on background of races, they were announced at an earlier state of development as each of the races were designed, it was some time before the pre-order thing. I dont have any links or records of those but I can tell you what I remember of them If you cant find anything about it.

    1. Either Glitch or Hylotl. Glitch because I freakin' love robots, especially medieval-period robots! Hylotl because there's nothing more badass than a gun-totting samurai fish-man! Or if I'm not feeling particularly creative, humans.
    2. Build a planetside shelter, go hunting for minerals, monsters, and loot, fiddle around with whatever I earn, pimp out my gear and shelter with what I build, and eventually gather coordinates to the next planet. Lather, rinse, and repeat.
    3. Mining and building both seem fun, as does exploring new and unusual worlds. I would also love to build vehicles once they're implemented.
    4. If I can find a welcome-enough group, yes. Preferably on a private server. If not, I can always practice with single-player...
    5. Until I feel satisfied enough with my playtime to feel the need to move on to other titles.
    6. Ranged, without a doubt! Melee looks cool and all, but there just aren't enough side-scrolling run n' gun sandbox RPGs out there. Not to mention, I prefer to take more of a gunner/support fire route. In other words, the bigger the gun, the better.
    7. At least one base per planet, as well as primary quarters stationed aboard my spaceship. I don't know what biome I'll enjoy the most since there's a lot of different types announced. I guess I'll have to wait and see...

    1. I plain on playing every race eventually but my top two would have to be Novakids and Florans because both appeal to me more

    2. take it slow gather as much resources as I can to create better gear

    3. Treasure hunter, builder, explorer

    4. I plain on playing with a few friends and maybe on a server later on

    5. not sure exactly but quite a bit I'm sure I'll rack up just as much play time as I did on Terraria if not more

    6. I enjoy melee fighting the most but I'm sure I'll use a few ranged weapons here and there and I'll fight any mob that attempts to fight me

    7. once I find my preferred home world I'll make a large main base with smaller outposts on various parts of the world along with smaller bases on other planets as I explore I think I would enjoy desert or forest type biomes

  6. Sylvire

    Sylvire Void-Bound Voyager

    1. Human or Floran. It's good to start with average Joe and the Floran skill seems interesting.
    2. Everything starts with solid base. From there you go to big bad world.
    3. Mining and treasure hunt goes hand in hand.
    4. Hopefully with other people. Poked my friends from Minecraft server about this, perhaps GM notices it.
    5. Lots. I absolutely love these type of games.
    6. Medium I think it's the word. Spray on spot until they get close, then start the dance of death. No backwards walking while shooting, don't want to walk fresh spawns or anything.
    7. Main base with supports. If I find really cool area then perhaps second large base.
    8. Temperate biome for starters. After I learn the game it would be really fun to tame hostile places.
    9. Housing style. I like high buildings, usually something up in air, if possible without supports, just floating.

    1. I'm most likely gonna play as an Avian because birds are epic ~ They're closely followed by the Floran though... and the Novakid look quite awesome :3
For me the Apex have no appeal at all... But that's just my opinion.

    2. I'm probably gonna get together with some friends and then quickly build up a base while going adventurin' >:3

    3. Fighting, mining, going treasure hunting, all of that ^-^

    4. I'm probably going to play with friends on a small private server. Because that's just the best :)

    5. I honestly don't know how long I'll play but it will most likely be a long time.

    6. I'm gonna go with close ranged weapons at first but it really depends on what kind of weapons I'll find. And I don't think I will fight every single enemy I come across.

    7. I'll most likely have one giant base and multiple smaller bases. And personally I'm a sucker for snow and ice biomes ~

  8. MilkCalf

    MilkCalf Supernova

    1. Floran ,(I´m not a tree hugger) they look cool (More male foliage needed!)As a floran I have freedom over what I do,I can be accepted by floran NPCs ,no religion and it´s said that floran people are hostile but some are opening their eyes. Humans are boring ,hylot ,apex ,glitch not for me(no reason). I had a hard choise Avian Floran or Novakid. Novakids bad reputation(In game). Avians religious. So I chose Floran.
    2.Not sure.
3.I wanna settle on a planet close to earth ,build awesome fort/castle and also adventure on lots of planets.
4.Whit my brother ,he is going to play glitch. Maybe on a big server if ALL the people are nice (I hate greafers raders and haccers ruining my house on Minecraft and terraria.) So Probably whit fev fends.
    5.Lots
6.Sword and shield ,I kill mobs that I dont need alive. (taming)
    7.One big base probably

  9. Clawdius_Talonious

    Clawdius_Talonious Void-Bound Voyager

    1 Glitch
2 I'll probably build up to the highest danger levels fairly quickly, acquiring as many ship and gear upgrades as possible and additional resources where convenient.
3 I want to kill. I mean, I wanna, I wanna kill. I wanna. I wanna see. I wanna see blood and gore and guts and veins in my teeth. Eat dead burnt bodies. I mean kill, Kill, KILL, KILL. (I realize that probably means I should go Florian as my first race, but I've always had a fondness for robots.)
4 I'll probably play with my friends on a small private server
5 I've put well over 300 hours into Terraria, I imagine I'll sink at least that many into Starbound.
6 I really enjoy melee combat for some reason, charging in and beating on things with no apparent regard for my own safety amuses me greatly.
7 I imagine I'll have a modest base on every planet I visit, as well as one primary fortress on a relatively tame planet to satisfy my grand architectural designs. I haven't really seen enough of the various biomes to have a favorite, but I do rather like the look of the eyeball trees.

  10. Jarlyk

    Jarlyk Astral Cartographer

    1. Glitch (easy winner)
    2. I'm a compulsive hoarder in these kinds of games, so I'll probably end progressing somewhat slowly, strip-mining each world of its resources to turn into chests to contain more resources. In the end, I'll lose track of where everything is located and move on to a new planet, having to make the tough decision of what to bring with me.
    3. I usually start by mining, then explore whatever I happen to mine into. I return to base frequently to stockpile.
    4. I'll probably play mostly on my own, as most of my friends are too busy for games (career, kids, working on house, etc.) I'm too busy, too, but need to have priorities, right? I might find some online friends to play with, though; will have to see how the community evolves and what the environment is like.
    5. Several hundred hours at least, with waxing and waning interest. I anticipate a lot of content growth over the next few years, both 'official' and community-produced, so I imagine it will continue to hold my interest for quite a while.
    6. I'll use whatever I find most effective. The streams I've seen so far have shown the melee weapons are quite a bit more effective than the ranged weapons, though obviously that's subject to change. I'll probably have a ranged weapon always on me, if possible, as the fire-breathing flying monsters kinda scare me. The only thing scarier were the fire-breathing ants in Fallout 3 that would sneak up on me from behind and make me leap out of my seat when my screen filled with flames.
    7. I'm sure I'll build scattered haphazard bases all over the universe. It's unknown exactly how the late game plays out, but I suspect I'll build something more elaborate at that point, incorporating all the coolest techs and tricky wiring. I'm really hoping the game will include some sort of 'computer' feature for more complex automation of the base. If it involves Lua, it'll be a fun excuse to learn it. :)

    1. Apex, because I love high tech stuff. I deslike Avians.

    2. Make a huge main base and start exploring.

    3. I will build a super safe base before I start mining and exploring.

    4. At first, I will play solo and then I'll find some clan after I get good equipment.

    5. When I'm not sleeping, eating or in college.

    6. I will play ranged, far away from danger.

    7. Mechanic biome, with other planets on the background.

  12. JAGYOUARE

    JAGYOUARE Phantasmal Quasar

    1. Human, because I am one.
    2. Explore the universe doing everything the game has to offer.
    3. Set up small bases and exploring planets looking for fun things to shoot/mine/blow up.
    4. I will probably start off playing solo, but I will eventually join a server and play with random people I meet.
    5. I will be playing this for a very, very, very long time.
    6. I will be mostly using heavy fully automatic weapons that I can spray into a huge group of baddies while running away with their loot.
    7. I will probably find a cool looking planet with a lot of NPC's I can annoy and set up a base there, along with small outposts on other planets.

    1) Avian most likely. not only do I like the way they look, I like that Mayan/Aztec culture and the gliding ability they'll get. Probably Hylotl after that.
    2) I want to take my first play-through slow and soak in everything I can, completely conquer the first planet and go from there.
    3) I like exploring and building but I don't find mining boring. I almost find it relaxing sometimes, just to get the materials to start building again!
    4) I'm for sure going to play alone for the first bit, then get a friend and hop on to see how multiplayer goes. Not a fan of big servers.
    5) Not sure on how many exact hours I'll play. All I know is I'm going to play TON every week!
    6) I prefer melee, getting up close and personal is my kinda play-style. I'm probably going to kill most of the enemies I encounter, but not every single one.
    7) I'm going to make a home planet where I store most of my treasures and materials then have small base camps on several planets. I don't know which biome/planet I'm looking forward to the most. I want to play them all!

I won't rush my way to impending doom, nor will I be peaceful and farm.
My plans are simple, do the tutorial, find a high level planet, build a base there. The reason high level is so there is always a sense of impending doom and makes it more fun.
Then spend a lot of time making the place all fancy, have a science wing, a living area, smelting room and so on.

Building and mining will be the best part for me, that and going hunting with my friends.

A small private server with my friends. Replacing my minecraft one with this.

    All the hours!

Ranged, I don't want nothing being able to get close to me. I will fight when I can be bothered, if it's a level 2 and I am level 6 I am not going to spend time killing it I will just keep doing what I'm doing. Unless it gets annoying.

One main base on a homework, and then smaller bases on planets we find. Nothing fancy, just some smelting equipment and food supplies. No idea, but I do prefer flat ground to build a base.

    1. I think ALL of the races are cool, but I think the Floran race is the best (to me) BY FAR!
    2. I want to take it at a steady pace, not rushing too much, not dragging to much, making sure I experience as much as possible. (not missing and awesome details I mean.)
    3. EXPLORE, EXPLORE, EXPLORE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
    4. I will play on big servers and LAN worlds with my friends.
    5. Infinite .________.
    6. I usually prefer ranged, and I won't fight hard monsters too early.
    7. I have mains in like every game I play! IDK why, but I get kinda bored playing characters that aren't my main (maybe it will change for a game like this!), and I think all the biomes will be SOOOOO AWESOME!! (Basically, IDK which biome I would like the best)

    4. probably gonna play either alone or with a few close friends

    2. I'll probably mine a ton
    3. Mine and then give 10% of the minerals to my friends
    4. If my friends don't get the game then I'll have to solo until someone on the forums is nice enough to let me play with them
    5. Could I have a robot with my brain in it so I can play this game forever?
    6. Depends on the cirumstances
    7. I'll have an entire planet as my base

    1. What race are you going to play, and why? Do any of the races just not appeal to you at all?
    [IMG]Human
Why? I suppose I've always been a bit boring in my race choices...but I like making characters that look like my OCs. As for races that aren't to appealing, well, I suppose those Hylotl people, but only visually...in my opinion...

    2. What are your plans for your first character? Rush through to the highest danger levels? Be a peaceful farmer?
I plan to take it easy and take my time setting up, and if I play with a clan, I'll be helping set them up.

    3. What do you like to do in the game? Is mining something that never gets boring to you? Are you a treasure hunter?
I like doings a bit of everything, but as my laptop is old and slow, I usually stay away from combat and focus on making some awesome buildings.

    4. Are you going to play with other people? If so, with friends or on a big/small public server?
I would like to think I'll be playing with my clan, don't know how that's going to turn out.

    5. How many hours do you think you're going to play?
Oh gosh, I'm not sure I should answer this. To many, if that's possible.

    6. What combat style do you prefer? Melee, Ranged, etc. Will you fight every enemy you come across?
I like fighting from a distance.

    7. Are you going to have one "Main" base, multiple smaller bases or just wander around? What biome do you think you'll enjoy the most?
I usually have one main base, but based on what I've seen so far, I might go with multiple smaller bases.

Going to run the broken record here and say I'm super excited for Starbound, but really, who isn't? (rhetorical, don't answer) :p

  19. HedgeFlanders

    HedgeFlanders Big Damn Hero

If I don't go human then I'll end up going with either Floran or Hylotl as well. I really need some Hylotl lore before I make that decision. But I always try to make underwater bases in games so it would be nice to by Hylotl. If someone playing Apex can convince me then I'll roll one of them.

  20. lyrael_rayne

    lyrael_rayne Big Damn Hero

    1. What race are you going to play, and why? Do any of the races just not appeal to you at all?
Probably Floran to start with. They're just so cute. Avians interest me. Although I'm not particularly religious IRL I for some reason get fascinated with religious races in games. Really they're all pretty exciting, but Humans are probably the least interesting because, well, I'm already playing a human IRL :p
    2. What are your plans for your first character? Rush through to the highest danger levels? Be a peaceful farmer?
Whatever strikes my fancy. Probably try to build a safe home, then explore.
    3. What do you like to do in the game? Is mining something that never gets boring to you? Are you a treasure hunter?
I like building a home and decorating it, hunting for treasures (to decorate my home with!) and setting up renewable resources so I never run out of things (e.g. in Terraria I had farms for all the plants). I like to collect armour sets and hope there will be some kind of armour rack where i can display what I'm not using. Same with weapons. I always end up spending too much time mining because it sometimes seems like the only really good way to get resources. I actually find it kind of boring even though it gets addictive. Would rather that exploring be *as good* an option as mining for getting stuff.
    4. Are you going to play with other people? If so, with friends or on a big/small public server?
Depends whether any of my friends end up playing and what the online experience is like. Would consider a pub server if there were some in Australia and there was little latency and a friendly community. Otherwise I'd probably just go solo.
    5. How many hours do you think you're going to play?
ALL of the hours! Really have no idea, depends on how long the game keeps my interest.
    6. What combat style do you prefer? Melee, Ranged, etc. Will you fight every enemy you come across?
I normally play some kind of ranged combat, although I always secretly hope that there will be a melee option which strikes my fancy one of these days.
    7. Are you going to have one "Main" base, multiple smaller bases or just wander around? What biome do you think you'll enjoy the most?
Depends how the game turns out. In most other games I have a "main" base although in Minecraft FTB I am currently branching out to have a couple of specialised outposts.
