After browsing forum a bit I gathered a few more questions which are being asked somewhat often.

8. I got a picture of my character, but I don't go as far as making a backstory.

9. Most likely not, I never modded Terraria and I doubt I'll mod a game that's going to be even better.

I'm going with a theme, and i'm not going to break that theme, but I don't have any solid layout.

Backstory, but no picture. I'm gonna flesh out the backstory as I play the game and see how it works.
9. Are you planning to use game mods, and if you are, which ones do you hope to create and/or use?

I'm gonna holdout for a race mod that integrates some of my favorite races. Depending on the mechanics, I might make a research mod that follows from my old research thread. Which I am desperately trying to resuscitate to no avail.

 

Go with a space-age hi-tech theme. In Terraria you couldn't do that so it's the first thing I'm gonna be prioritizing at least.

I'm gonna get into the game and realize how hard it will be to do that though. xD

 

I'm going with a space ninja, sprinting around, short-ranged teleports, with some superspy gear like miniature guided missiles, hell yes.
That's a theme that I tried to do in Terraria, but they didn't quite have all the right stuff, but they did have Magic Missile. I loved that ability when it was actually useful for 5 minutes.

 

Yeah Terraria was pretty limited.

 

1. Floran, I like the idea of being a living plant like thing... It's cool!
2. I plan on finding a decent sized planet and build a small house and mine most to all of it's resources, then start moving on to better planets. ( I want to be prepared)
3. I would start out just exploring, mining is fun to me I don't think it get's boring. And YES to treasure hunting, you can never have too much treasure
4. I want my friend's to get the game so we can play, just us for a bit, and then either move to a low population server or make our own.
5. When ever I'm not the collage. So alot.
6. I'm not sure, but I think I will want to start with melee and move to ranged as the game gets harder.
7. I am going to build atleast a small house on each 'decent' planet, you know if it looks cool. But I do want a big base on a snow planet.

 

1. Human, I usually go for Humans in games. Not sure why. I'll make a Glitch and Avian as well later on.
2. Do a bit of everything, really. I wanna explore, loot dungeons, build, collect weapons, raise monsters. All of it.
3. Definitely building. I did a TON of it in Terraria and I created some pretty awesome stuff. Definitely hyped for all i'll have to work with in this.
4. Just a couple of friends, maybe like 4 or 5 at the max, and not all at the same time.
5. I logged 400+ into terraria, and it doesnt even amount to half of the content in Starbound. So that's a pretty solid answer.
6. Ranged, but that dashing .gif shown recently makes me want to play melee. Mega Man Zero much?
7. I plan to have a main base on a normal forest planet, and then make outposts on other planets of different biomes. I definitely want to make one on a snowy biome.

I personally am going to play as a human FLORIAN FTW, maybe as a Novakid if they somehow suddenly appeal to me.

Zoey (My char) is going to try to be a merchant. I don't know if that will be possible. If it isn't, however, I will play as a farmer. Either way I will be a pacifist.

I like to play the game, then settle down and start a business or farm in all games.
4. Are you going to play with other people? If so, with friends or on a big/small public server?
I will definitely play with my friends (About 7 IRL who also preordered ) and maybe a small server that only around 10-15 people play on.

The world shall not see me for a while.

As I said before I am going to generally be a pacifist, only fighting if it is completely unavoidable. If it does end up with me being a fighter, I will probably make my beloved Zoey an assassin

I will probably set up my bases like I do in Terraria, which is where I set up one HUGE base with a few itsi-bitsy bases set up all around the areas of interests.

I am going to play Apex to begin with because i am a fan of the original Planet of the Apes, The race that does not appeal to me is Floran i just don't like flowers however i am glad it is in the game more choices for people who have different tastes to me is always a good thing.

Learn the game basics and then start crafting things the more the better i love crafting.

I like progression i like to feel i am moving forwards and crafting is my favorite thing.

I want to play with others but have not made a good group of starbound friends yet to play with but that will come.

my guess is somewhere between 100 and 1000 depending on how good the game is.

Ranged is my usual style i also like to have fast multishot guns like a mini gun.

Depends on how the game works but i will have one nice looking base somewhere safe and possibly a base at each tier if its is apropriate.

I'm actually quite torn between avian, glitch and nova. Glitch seems awesome, love the whole "futuristic bot in a medieval setting", Avians are fluffy and Novas are... Novas! My avatar came after a dice roll for the race and then 20 randomization (I always do this when I can in any game).

Explore in a "sustainable" pace. I'll sort of play like what I think an explorer-crafter-warrior guy would act if he had to explore and uncharted block of the universe. Set up a base in the first planet, grow it enough to be ale to give me support for the exploration of the rest of the space, and then do said exploration.

Treasure hunter. I'll do my mining like I did in Minecraft and Terraria: mostly to go from cavern to cavern, and only vital resource gathering. I don't plan to horde all the mineral resources of a planet, just enough for me to create what I need to keep going. It's something I'm loving in this game, every planet is random and has a chance to give me something amazing AND new. Other similar games forced me to remake the world/server to keep the "new-ness" going, here I just have to hop on the ship...
4. Are you going to play with other people? If so, with friends or on a big/small public server?
Really depends on a) how multiplayer will work and b) how big one server's universe can become without lagging. If I can be with 10-20 people on the same server, but we can all exist on different planets, then hell yeah I'll be on a big server. Else, mostly singleplayer or multi with a friend.
5. How many hours do you think you're going to play?
Highly depends. I've clocked little over 300 hours on Terraria, mostly because I played 1 hour everyday. I only stopped mostly due to exaustion (too much mining and resource hoarding for too little of a reward...), so I see myself doing 2-3 times that amount in Starbound. The game is perfect for someone in university to play in small chunks when there's free time.
6. What combat style do you prefer? Melee, Ranged, etc. Will you fight every enemy you come across?
MELEE! Love the huge buster swords, and the dash tech announced a few days ago simply cemented my decision. Doesn't mean I won't touch ranged weapons, but I'll stay away from gunslinger or sniper play styles. I'll only fight enemies (mobs that don't agro won't suffer my wrath, besides probably becoming my pets).

I'll try to make my first base the initial center of operations but with intentions of making it a storage unit after a while, as the first one will probably rushed. After that, I plan to build small, recon sized ones in every planet I visit and one huge, underground (or underwater) main base at a central location of the universe.

Probably human. I'm sure I'll get around to trying every race but, y'know, being a measly human exploring the galaxy and all the crazy shit therein is kind of the way to go for me.

I doubt I will be rushing, but I want to explore which will no doubt require progressing at a reasonable pace in terms of equipment etc.

I like exploring so I typically only mine while going through cave networks. I love to build stuff too, anything I can think of, which means sometimes I have to mine in a more monotonous, straight up mine shaft kind of way. Luckily I can easily zone out and just get that done. Heh.

I don't know yet, I like playing with groups of friends but depending on how the public servers work I might just play on one of those. Either way I'll play a lot in singleplayer as well.


5. How many hours do you think you're going to play?
I easily sink hundreds of hours into games like this, or any game I really enjoy, whether it be games like Street Fighter, Civ or, well, anything. This seems like a game that could sustain that kind of playtime with no problems at all.

I've been playing quite a bit of Bleed recently, and the dodging from a recent news post made me feel like the melee could be quite fun if the mobility is anything like in bleed, minus the bullet time of course. But then ranged could be just as fun for the same reason, good mobility that is. I probably won't fight everything I run across though.

I don't really know, since I still don't quite enough about how the game really will work. Right from the get go when the game was announced I envisioned taming some hostile planet and building a main base there but I don't know to what extent you can, say, terraform. Or, hell, if it's even viable to have one main base.

At least for my first game, I'm going to recreate myself and play as a human. I've always thought it would be more fun to be the one discovering all the weird alien stuff, rather than to be a weird alien myself and then "discover" plain ol' humans. I'm not sure I'll play Florans, since their cave-speak is kind of irritating.
2. What are your plans for your first character? Rush through to the highest danger levels? Be a peaceful farmer?
I'd like to explore everything with my friends as if we were exploring an actual universe. Discover ALL the planets, etc.

Mining, exploring, collecting items (and putting them on display) is my usual MO for this kind of game.

I'll be avoiding public servers and will likely set up my own for my friends and I to play on as a "crew." I want to have people split into teams, one to explore the planet and the other to make a base and craft supplies. Then once the world is mapped out and we have a base to return to and are fully stocked up, take the whole group out to investigate dungeons and do some spelunking.

Ranged in Starbound looks really fun with the gun variety, but if spears work the same as they did in Terraria I'll use those too.

One "main" base on an aesthetically pleasing planet with proximity to other planets with resources, then a number of bunkers strewn across worlds I've visited.

Mining is Ok, but i Plan on doing something like running a Huge NPC City thats half under ground, there will be NPCs on the Surface and Under ground, if theres a attack ill defend them, if it gets out of hand id put them in the Under Ground part and Seal them away from harm (And if a Natural Disaster Happens, like a Volcano Erupting, there going there with me too!​

Probably my One friend, were doing this Side By Side! Then splitting up later , then returning to see what we have each done! and Maybe go on some Servers to Trade for Cool/Rare Items.​

As i said, a main NPC City, and ill have a Home Floating right above it for me to live in, the bottom floor will have a Glass Floor too!

Mmnope!

I've none set in stone at the moment; I might have to make an human sort of avatar first, to get a handle on the lore through exploring the game.

No rush! Though crafting and attaining the best tech I can certainly has an appeal.

Of course! Well, as peaceful as I can be with all of these bloodthirsty mobs running around.

As I haven't played the game yet, I don't know what I like to do in it. ^_~ I imagine that exploring and building , crafting and researching will be lots of fun.

No. Though there is a certain engagement in finding out what's just over there in the dark...

Hunter, no. Finder anyway? Yes.

I generally don't, as I prefer to do things at my own pace. But roleplaying is certainly more fun with others. So... maybe?

Friends can be made on public servers, you know. Fewer people means less lag, to answer your non-Boolean question.

Many! Or I'll become enraptured by somepony else's shenanigans on YouTube.

Well, ranged combat does lead to fewer enemy hits on me, but there's something satisfying about getting up-close and personal. Probably both, depending on the situation!

Depending on how the "homeworld" system works, I can see a bunch of fun being had building a substantial base. And/or a space station! I'll definitely have smaller outposts as a home base to explore from.

We don't even have the full list of biomes, yet! However could I choose just now? Um... uh... Moon? Yeah, moon biomes are neat. I could build a research station on one! Or a secret "asteroid" base!

Hylotl Definitely the hylotyl. They have so much potential and cultural background that is a mystery to all of us.

My first character will most likely take things easy, and advance slowly. I have much to learn about the world, and I intend to take things one step at a time.

I'd prefer to explore caverns and dungeons rather than mining. It might help if I can speed up the process somehow.

Nah. It's singleplayer for me, most likely.

As much as my time allows. I am on break from graduating college, so I have some time, though I might be interested in finding a job as well.

I'd mostly be interested in meelee, until it gets me in trouble, then I'll switch to ranged attacks. I will most definitely fight everything that I came across, since I'm paranoid about the other person landing the first blow.

I hope I can make a main base of operation, laden with the spoils of war. I think I'll enjoy the desert biome more, as there are less foliage to obstruct my monuments.

 

1. Novakid, Florian or Avian. Why? Because they seem interesting.
2. Gear up, build then explore. (I'm not one for the peaceful life)
3. I'll probably mine until my hearts content then slay some creatures.
4. A small server with a couple of friends (3-4) or solo.
5. I invest a lot in my games so possibly 10-30 hours a week.
6. I prefer to put distance between me and my target so ranged. I will most likely only kill hostile creatures unless I get bored and decide to slaughter everything.
7. Yeah seems about right for me, 1 main base and tonnes of smaller ones. I'll probably enjoy the Mechanical Cloud Tree biome. (I don't know what it's called)
