1. I like the Floran race. IRL I am a gardener and herbalist (I don't grow the illegal stuff). I find plants facinating.
2. Peaceful Farmer sounds good to me. I would like to lend support to my friends.
3. I think I would enjoy building. Will there be gardening in the game?

5. I have a family, so not as many as I would probably like to. But this game still seems cool.

Novakid I like how they are represented as wild west characters, gonna have me a gunslinger

Love to build and mine and plunder..er treasure hunt I mean. My building tend to reflect the character I am, novakid will have a ranch like place with a secret.

Will probably play alone, don't know how online would work in this type of game. Wouldn't mind exploring the galaxy with a group of good folk though.

As many as I can squeeze in between work and social responsibilities.

I typically play the melee character, but for my nova kid? Guns all the way, gunslinger of the galaxy.

 

What kind of game is 'Work and social Responsibilities', I heard mixed things about it, on the one hand the graphics are amazing but some people didn't like the Gameplay or Storyline.

 

It's actually the mini game to the game called Real Life. A tedious part, but the only way you can apparently advance. Stupid thing just keeps sucking me back in no matter what I do sadly....

 

Yeah, real life has its flaws but I keep going back for it for some reason :/

ranged with (if possible) a melee attachment such as a bayonet

 

1.Hylotl or Floran I guess.Still I don't what exactly bonuses each race have.Easier to decide after release.
2.I'm gonna build a warehouse first.After that hours of gathering/exploring/killing.
3.Flying castles are amazing.Almost as like as underwater buildings.

I like the Novakid. I like that their whole race has ADHD. I can relate.

A little bit of everything. I like how creative you can be creating whatever you want. I mostly enjoy fighting challenging enemies and obtaining awesome weapons.

My Terraria buddies plan to explore space with me. Maybe my girlfriend too.

I plan to play quite a bit. In games like this you can definitely lose track of time farming and building.

I prefer ranged classes or quick thief like melee classes. Depends on how in depth the combat will be.

Most likely, a Hylotl, Apex, or Human. I haven't really put a lot of read into the lore (if there is) behind each race, but their basic appeal already give me an idea of what kind of character/personality i'd be looking for. I'm not sure there's a race i wouldn't pick as of yet.

When it comes to games of this kind, i'm a freakish completionist; if i cannot complete a quest/kill an enemy/achieve my goal, i will most likely farm myself to oblivion until said quest/enemy/goal is completed. Probably after that i'd have gotten the hang of the "rythm" of the game, distribution of items or zones, etc to have a more fluid, and later on, faster progression.

As stated previously, i'm a completionist, and as such, i like to really get into a place, do EVERYTHING i can to it, then make it my own, leave my trademark, if you could say so.
Mining is definitely something i enjoy, and one of the reasons i pre-ordered this wihout a hinch was the possibility of discovering other planets, all while in the same "context" of the character (alas Spore, no need to leave the menu-create new planet-enter planet-etc)
Treasures are another drive i thoroughly enjoy looking for, as they force me to gradually progress to achieve the goal i aim at.
As for building, it mostly depends on what i have at the moment, but the most basic buildings usually involve using the environment in the first place; if i find a cave that seems deep and tall enough, i may build a house there, then go down/build a tower/a bunker/a bridge/so on so forth -this usually ends up being a ginormous building in which i take great pride in btw-.

I'm not exactly a social person per se, and knowing how much of a completionist i can be, i usually stick to playing alone in a local server (as to avoid situations like "dude you told me you'd wait for me to complete that section!" -oops, sorry-). However whenever a RL friend, or someone else who expressively invites me to play (thank you very much btw) i will gladly join them and build awesome things, explore, or just pvp/pve. I do tend to expressively avoid public servers though, they are a bit chaotic for me.

5. How many hours do you think you're going to play?
Terraria took me around 80hrs to have a GIGANTIC house built from scratch (which included pretty much every furniture, armor and weapon), hell completely scavenged, and the whole enviornment controlled. Considering this game is aiming to be 10x times Terraria, with much, much more content...... I really don't know, but i'm almost certain the 100+hr barrier will be broken.

Well the etc really spiked my curiosity. I'm guessing it will most likely depend on what kind of weapons i'll come across first, and whether or not they will be worth it according to where i am. Hell if not every creature on a planet is hostile, or if i like the planet enough to colonize it, i may even attempt not to attack the animals that reside there....or i may brutally kill them all.

Apologies if something isn't quite clear, my english may be a bit rough.

 

1. Novakid, Avian, or Glitch. Preference in that order, somewhat determined by what my friends are not going . I guess I kind of go off appearance first, specialized abilities second, with lore being less important. I've never been fond of plain ol human races in games, but they are kind of necessary. The Apex though, their story makes sense, but apes, humans, meh...
2. I've got a universe to explore. I'll have a home base I'll work on from time to time, but for the most part, onward to the great mysteries!
3. I'm generally an exploration type of player, and visiting interesting places, collecting valuable treasure, and hunting terrifying monstrosities is at the top of my list. That said, mining and base management can be an enjoyable supplement to your expeditions!
4. With my small group of friends. Its most enjoyable that way I find.
5. I will probably play quite a bit. Have ~90 hours on Terraria, and Starbound looks to have taken Terraria and improved on practically every aspect.
6. As with my playstyle, I can be quite variable. I did like the Red Mage from Final Fantasy best. As such, I'll use whatever weapons interest me at the time.

Generally, I'm either the explorer or the farmer, or both. My first character will likely be something dopey - a little of everything, trying to learn.

Erm... well... in Terraria, I had this whole bank world. The walls were made of gold (later with mythril added, for half the buildings, since they added it after the world was built). The back-walls were copper ( the mythril buildings used cobalt for walls). It was filled with golden (and, later, shadow) chests, with piles and piles of every imaginable item. Like, boxes of each item.

I have a minimum of four to six people just in the family, plus friends of my teenaged sons, plus maybe my friends... yeah, we'll be _running_ a server, thanks. As long as we have files to put the server onto the box in our living room, that is.

I suspect I'll lose a few months of my life, at least.

Combat? Oh, right, that's the thing my kids do when they're protecting my farms. Kidding a bit, I do it, but I tend to do the easier forms - and be overdressed for it. By the time I move on to tougher battles, I'm kitted out in every possible thing I can get, and usually have them standing in front of me to boot. Kids == cannonfodder? *chuckle*

Human cause human are IMO the most balanced race.

RELAXE, take my time discovering a mech blue prints and trying to find what I need to make it.

Exploring. No. Yes. No ,I'll build a quick shack to protect myself but the first thing I'll do is exploring.

My friends laugh at me when I played Terraria , but I'll surely play with my son, no public server for now.

Me and son clocked about 300 hours on Terraria so Starbound will surely get 100 times more.

I really want to play Hylotl as I love Japanese culture, 'Kimono' & Samurai so I will be playing as a female as the 'Kimono' culture is very interesting.
I would prefer if you could play an oriental human though as I dislike fish-men.
Even though I am a fan of The Planet Of The Apes playing as a Apex looks like no fun, but we won't know until release.

I will be a neutral player and only attack other players if provoked but attack monsters with no thought whatsoever.

I am going to build many Japanese style buildings and adventure lots with minimal mining & boredom.

I HATE big servers and believe that small communities are good communities that strive most.

I expect I will still be in my Summer Holidays when Star-bound is released so around 10-12 hours a day 15-16 @ weekends.

Ranged or magic with melee mainly used in stealth and sneaking. I will rarely attack most pointless enemies (like Bidoof in Pokemon or Goombas in Mario).

6. To sneak around, ranged then bum rush it with melee. Try to be strategic with fighting.

 

1. Human or Novakid. Possibly maybe even Glitch. Though I will try all of them out, they seem to appeal to me the most.
2. Take it slow and easy. I wanna enjoy every little thing the planet has to offer before moving on to the next one.
3. Fighting and farming which also involves mining. It's fun and relaxing to me, but fighting always gets me in the mood especially if it's a challenge!
4. I'm going to start with solo, but only to get a feel of the game. I plan on playing with friends, but I'll always have a solo world for myself.
5. Can't say how many hours, but you can bet it will be a lot. Enough hours at least to the point where I'll have to force myself to get off for school work
6. Melee and Range are almost at equal, but I'd have to prefer Range slightly. And yes, anything in my way will unfortunately perish But it'll be fun.

2. I think I'll play a space archeologist kind of character. So explore planets for relics of long dead civilizations, establish a retreat on a dead world. That kind of stuff.

Glitch because I like to build, mine and explore. It's all mostly repetitive tasks, which would be perfect for a bot. The Hylotl because I'm a sucker for the asian themed clohting.

Be a peaceful farmer? - I'll probably create two characters off the hop using the two races mentioned above. Glitch for my single player game so I can mine, build and explore at my own pace, and Hylotl for multiplayer, which is usually driven by the play style of others since I like to take things slow.

4. Are you going to play with other people? If so, with friends or on a big/small public server? - Most likely a private server setup by one of the members of my Lord of the Rings Onine kinship, The Old Timers Guild, otherwise maybe just with a couple of friends who aren't on that server.

Melee, Ranged, etc. Will you fight every enemy you come across? - In almost every game up until now I've played a ranged class or at least one that hangs back a bit in a support role, which is likely how I'll continue to play in Starbound. I'm not a rush in and kill everything in sight, but if something gets between me and some treasure, it's gonna get spanked!

I'm currently in Teräs clan of glitches, and I even made a history to my character, but I can't continue making it, sadly T-T​

1. I'm going with a human, 'cause I always try to make the character look as much like me as possible - like in my avatar -.

2. I'll enjoy the game really slowly, see careful and critically everything it has to offer.

3. Definitely a builder! Though mining bores me pretty quickly; I usually have my minions friends mining materials for me, while I take care of building a very classy mansion/castle for us. Best part is to take care of the decor!

4. Mostly with friends and people from my country, 'cause the lag really bothers me. But I don't mind joining some public servers for some friendly chat. I like chatting

5. I can see Starbound consuming all of my free time. Girlfriend will be mad.

6. Melee all the way. I'll only skip enemies once they get TOO easy to fight with (like normal Slimes in Terraria, when you get the best pre-hardmode gear).

I am probably going to be a Novakid right off the bat, but I will definitely try Glitch and Hylotl and any reptilian races if they come along. I am torn about weather I like the avians or not, their backstory doesn't appeal to me but I like the way they look.

I will try and do anything and everything with my first character, exploring will probably be the highest priority as I will be itching to see all the different kinds of worlds and creatures that the game will undoubtedly have in store.

Building, building, building, and maybe even some building on the side. I love making stuff, I will likely start off with towers as I will generally try and get a method going as I am expecting it to be different on Starbound (the idea of different gravities perplexes and frightens me in a delightful way).

I was just going to play the game with my friends and on my own, but now, being part of the forum and meeting so many friendly and supportive people, I will try and get on the bigger servers and maybe get into one of the clans.

This game looks like it's going to be everything I have ever wanted in a game stuck together and launched into space. It is going to command my life for a week to be certain and then when my excitement dies down a little, I would expect that I'd play it around 15-20 hours a week.

I like ranged, that's for sure, although I will likely mix it up every so often. The addition of shields is promising to make combat a lot more to think about.

Great idea for a thread by the way, it's very interesting to see how many different kinds players there are going to be!
