I see your point. I always felt that the music wasn't completely fitting for a bullet-hell, Roguelike, dungeon crawler... But I thought the music was cool. And I agree with you completely about the pretty nice and challenging game part as well. But I have only beat the Lich with the soldier. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Hardest boss? Probably Belial in original Inferno. Took me hours to beat thanks to enrage timer. Favourite boss? That's a tough one. I might have to get back to you on that, heh.
I, uh, have a lot. I have a ton of favorites for various different reasons, so I'll just list them all here and hope it sticks. :') Sticking to one boss per game series, just so I don't clutter things up with Every Single Final and EX Stage Touhou Bosses Ever. Yukari Yakumo (Touhou 7: Perfect Cherry Blossom): You thought Extra Stages were hard? Well, here's a Hard Mode version of an Extra Stage, with 150% more bullets, different music, ridiculous attack patterns and a midboss kitsune that seriously needs a chill pill. But if you can get there.. Yukari is probably one of the most dazzling bosses in the whole series. Her battle theme is nothing short of phenomenal, her attacks are difficult and complicated but lovely on an aesthetic scale, and she breaks a lot of rules of typical danmaku fare. Invincibility frames? Pssh, nah, who needs those? Bombs actually doing anything? Nope. Her last attack is beautiful and brutal, and if you try to get through it by using bombs to clear the screen, she halts the time-out countdown (since it's a "survive X seconds to win" attack) before the bomb effects clear. It makes sense, given she's able to turn reality on its head with a hand-wave. DJ Octavio (Splatoon): Now, he's not quite as difficult as the gap monster listed up there, but daaaang if that final boss fight wasn't totally rad. The constant action and bright atmosphere makes to keep you on your feet, and the platforming aspects manage to tie together the whole single-player campaign really nicely. I think that this whole boss fight was just really, really well put-together, from keeping the player engaged to the great music, and the dialogue's just the icing on the cake. So, so many puns. What a good octopus. Undyne the Undying (Undertale): She's probably been brought up in this thread already, but.. wow, that whole scene was nothing short of amazing. There's something downright magical about a boss literally fighting off death itself, uniting power with the souls of their people, all for the sake of striking you down so you won't kill anybody else. I'd definitely put her up there with the final bosses of Neutral and Pacifist in terms of everything amazing. Zero & Zero Two (Kirby's Dream Land 3 & Kirby 64): It's a big albino eyeball monster that actively uses blood in self-defense, to the point of splattering it all over the screen to try and hit Kirby, and after you kill it in KDL3, it resurrects and comes back in a later game as a fallen angel eyeball monster. That's so metal. Really, though, this entity has a ton of nostalgia for me, its respective fights are a wonderful change of tone that still fit Kirby fairly well, and its story of sorts is pretty emotional, so bonus points there. I like this eyeball. It's a good eyeball. Star Dream (Kirby: Planet Robobot): Good job, you angered the enormous supercomputer that can easily destroy us all. Oh, it's-- it's ascending. There it goes! But in all seriousness, this fight was fantastic, from the visuals to the music to the sudden shift in gameplay that works out really well. The boss design and behavior fits in really lovely with the more monstrous entries in the Kirby series, beautiful and alien and undeniably dangerous, and it brings back a certain nostalgia named Starfox 64. I see those Gorgon and Andross references, Nintendo. Worthy mentions: Fujiwara no Mokou (Touhou 8: Imperishable Night), the Fire Dragon (Fire Emblem: Blazing Sword), Berserk Ashnard (Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance), Andross (Starfox 64), and Mithos Yggdrasill (Tales of Symphonia). I can't make decisions very easily, I love all of these bosses for different reasons. If I had to pick a favorite on all fronts, it'd probably be Yukari Yakumo, because there's pretty much nothing in that battle that's not amazing, and she's gruelingly difficult for the average player.
After some thought I would say my favourite is Ganondorf/Ganon, specifically from Ocarina of Time. It was just such an epic battle the first time. The music, the transformation, not being able to use the Master Sword. Great memories.
Oooh good choice, thats a pretty memorable fight, I still have it fresh in memory. Dang its been a while!
Man, I played so much OoT when I was a teenager. Had everything memorised and could beat the game without ever taking damage. Haven't played in years but I still look back on it fondly.
Make a youtube channel, call it No Hit Zelda Game and poof! you could play it again and show off! or not, youtube doesnt get along with older games. On a side note: I would like to take a moment to let anyone reading know of this mod-work in progress http://community.playstarbound.com/threads/undertale-goat-monsters-big-feet-or-small-feet.124622/ the pixel artist is looking for people who can mod, or have experience in creating custom races! they are working on the assets but have no experience on actual modding. Any help or directions would be greatly appreciated!
hardest boss that i actually beat once (and only once) Knight Artorias. I even did it without summons, but that bastard was a tough one. hardest boss that i kinda gave up on and never finished the game because of? final boss (atleast i think it was, it seemed like the final boss atleast) of Beyond Good and Evil. that f****r reversed your controls and everything. its really difficult to pinpoint a favourite boss. but the closest would be either Brachydios or Mizutsune from Monster Hunter (in which 90% of the enemies you face would count as bosses in any other kind of game, lol). Brachy because its fight is usually hectic and one wrong move gets you exploded (I also LOVE its theme). Mizutsune because the fight is fast paced, the monster has a very nice design, the fight theme is amazing and at some points Mizu even adds to it by taunting at the right moment.
Liquid snake from MGS 4, Lavos from Chrono Trigger, The boss from MGS 3 and all colossus from Shadow of the colossus... (JUST 16 Colossus :v*)
I'd say my most difficult bosses I've encountered are some of the bosses from Persona 4. Though, this is probably because of my very poor leveling skills in the past. I've had to restart my game multiple times because of it. As for my favorite boss, I would have to say it's a tie between Ganondorf/Ganon from OoT and Majora from Majora's Mask.
My favorite boss would have to be Fume Knight Raime from Dark Souls 2's Iron Crown DLC. Sir Alonne and Ludwig the Accursed/Holy Blade were both very strong contenders for the same spot, but I enjoyed how hard Raime was to beat and his story got me good. I strongly recommend those fights to anyone seeking a good challenge, especially if you're willing to hunt down lore. Hardest boss in terms of frustration would be Vendrick, hardest in terms of pure difficulty would be the Orphan of Kos. I just couldn't figure out what I was doing wrong for the longest time.
Vendrick? I must have gotten lucky then, it took me 2 tries to dispatch him. As for Raime, he gave me a bit of trouble, though I ll blame it on the weapons I was using at the time (the prologue dagger and the dragon armour). Still, a really enjoyable fight indeed.
Favourite might be Iudex/Champion Gundyr from Dark Souls 3, takes the good of the sped up pace of DS3 without the bullshit, cool lore, design and feel overall. Gwyn is second place And not forgetting Frank Horrigan and The Master from Fallout 1/2, different takes on a final boss, genious conversation or intense combat, both with different ways to face them and conclusions. Hardest are for me: - Luzbel and Legacy dungeon bosses from Dragon Quest IX, don't know if i didn't grind enough, but they took me days and some Legacy ones i straight up surrendered - The Nameless King from Dark Souls 3, it's mostly a shout for "Fix the camera for f*cks sake, From" - Providence from Risk Of Rain. Although if you got here you probably can get it down - Sigma from Megaman X. So the game is easy peasy, but nyou get to him and he has minion dogs, two phases, a lightsaber and a HP bar so big that he probably has to go through doors sideways - Rebel Flagship, FTL. Ugh. Blowing it up feels amazing though Good stuff. Some of the best scenes in the game are in the DLC, there are only some shity ones like The Gank Squad and Double Kitties are crap The King is mostly a fight of endurance and IIRC you can't summon. $ Giant Souls to 5 make all the difference, although if you were able to kill the Ancient Dragon you ought to have a cookie and roll credits.
Depending on who you ask, some of these may or may not be "bosses", but they count all the same to me: -Undertale's Genocide Run final boss. Not going to say it here in case spoilers, but those of you who played know who I'm talking about. Everything - the message, the music, it all sealed in that delicious flavor of "you fucked up". -Iji's General Tor. There was only... Three other enemies/bosses that size in the whole game. One of which you couldn't actually fight, the other which abandoned it's huge form to fight you face-to-face, and the third one you could pilot. Combine that with the fact that his most powerful attack is literally using an anti-spaceship weapon against you (and it's even considered to be a powerful anti-ship weapon, that can vaporize parts of ships. Normal deaths in Iji shows your health depleted. When you get hit by that weapon? Your whole HUD goes blank, and for right reason, because at that point you basically don't exist anymore), and you got a tough boss. Was very enjoyable though - he had personality, and depending on whether you did certain things or had certain weapons, hilarious skips would ensue. (The most hilarious one is still definitely killing him with a banana gun) -ReVolt's Adeon. It's one of the possible contestants in the Gold Cup, and boy I always prayed that it wouldn't be there, because Adeon is basically underclassed. Easily the best car of it's class, and it's got a very competitive AI to boot. There was times where I literally just quit the cup and started again if it was in there because I didn't want to deal with it. -Mass Effect 3, Rannoch's boss. No spoilers, but MAN did I struggle for a long time at that final shot. -Borderlands 2, Wildlife Reserve's boss. Wasn't a challenging boss, but those who played know why it was probably difficult for me. -Megaman Zero 4's final boss. FUCK that guy. -Basically everything ever in Fraxy. Especially anything I make. -KickBeat's last level. I still haven't finished that game. -Tabuu. I was never good at dodgeting. ...Think that's all.
I don't see anybody listing old-school turn-based JRPGs here, so why don't we give that genre some lovin'? Anybody here played Lufia and the Fortress of Doom? Seriously, MOST bosses of that game fall under this. This game makes "veteran" JRPG gamers who never played it before cry. They just aren't prepared for the challenge, in fact I've known a couple friends who buckled to the very first boss. And one of them liked to boast how he always plays games on "Hard" difficulty. And the guy can't even do the FIRST boss, let alone the Pirates or that Wizard at the top of the tower, or any other boss of that game. If you enjoy challenge, I highly suggest you give Lufia a try. Don't judge it on its graphics and outdated menu UI; the actual battle mechanics can be awesome at times. Also...... How about Ys: Oath in Felghana? lol. Some of those bosses are ridiculous.
Refresh my memory... isnt that uhh... would-be Sigma using the Dark Elf? and the fight happens mid-atmosphere? if so, I loved that fight so ... SO much! I remember all the struggles lol. They dont make games like Megaman anymore... Never played Lufia but it sounds familiar... probably been recommended before. What sets it apart or makes it so interesting to play? I for one love challenges, and would be entertained by Lufia, but I would like to hear from you first, if you would be so kind of course.
Nope, it was Ragnarok Weil - where he fuses with the space station itself, and it becomes a timed fight where you have to defeat him before the space station crashes. The Dark Elf was freed at the end of Zero 3 after you defeat Omega. And tell me about it. I'm still pissed at the Megaman Legends 3 cancellation. There's a whole plot arc they just canned because they didn't want to deal with it. Legends was easily my favorite Megaman canon.
