Not like monkey men much. Isss sssomewhat boring and sssimilar to normal meatmen.
Avian and hooman alssso sssomewhat blend together, with lesss inherent interesssting factorsss.
And whilsssst Floran will ssstab any fissshy, Floran doesss enjoy their exissstence. The comparatively aloof, absssent minded insssulting fissshy isss interesssting, and pacifisssm isss an interesssting departure from other racesss.


Floran feel that unique nature of avian could be pussshed into robot with no downssside while apex could be combined with human.

 

Floran. Decided to go Floran instead of human for my 1 year return to Starbound, and the little guy has served me well. I like the idea of 'nice' Florans being outcasts from the rest of their race, so that the personality and mood of each Floran you meet are wildly different. But they all love to sssstaby ssstab.

 

What about Florans? Do they just spread they petals and wait for a bee to come along?

I like the Hylotl and Avians best, but Glitch are close to my heart too.
Apex remind me too much of the Kromaggs from Sliders/Nineteen-Eighty Four.
Hylotl are basically 100% science and respect and I can dig that.

 

Oh yeah I forgot their based on axolotls....

But I also like axolotls.

The million dollar question of course it how little Novakids are made. Thankfully I've found this handy diagram.

As far as characters go, Florans. Great character design, funny quips for when you inspect things: see avatar for example. Just fun to play if you get into the character, in my opinion.

For design of decorative items? Avian. Looooove their consoles and crystal work, reminds me of the goa'uld technology from Stargate. Pyramid ships? Yes, please. Don't much care for the character design of Avians, but there's really not much more they could have done with bird-people. If they sneak in a Birdman costume then I may have to make an Avian, though...

 

Hm, visually, I find the Avian quite cute and fluffy. I love fluffy birbs. And the Novakid look pretty coolio. Glowy. Star. People. What more could you want?
Culturally, the Hylotl might be stuck up and a tad snobbish, but i'm rather fond of their culture and decorations nonetheless. I'm a sucker for feudal japan, it seems.
I'm actually rather fond of the Novakid due to their kind of racial traits, ADHD and forgetful. They just seem to intrigue me, no matter the ship design.
My favorite ship has to be the Novakid one nonetheless. That back room was big enough for me to build a goddamn saloon with a stage and loft, with flashy stage lights for tiy's sake.

So, Novakid win, typical whimsy. I just love the wild west, american history intrigues me to no end. Might be biased but y'know. Pretty cool stuff back then.

 

In vanilla Starbound, I love the floran. I like the mixture of their interesting and varied personalities combined with the cute character animation. I also love their architecture and have my floran build various types of plant based and tree houses.

As for mods, my favorite race is definitely the Avali. Their design, architecture, and so much lore. That is one incredible race mod!

 

While they aren't favourites in the galaxy and I do dislike their uptight behaviour, I guess I like the Hylotl. They're amazing-looking fish people, have the widest colour variety and their endgame armour looks awesome. Not to mention their villages and the upcomming underwater cities.
