Yes, it was indeed Daggerfall. Good times back then... but nowdays we need more cookies to keep us sated.

I'm sure there will be reasons to travel back to lower tier planets - from what i've read there are quests which NPCs will give you to facilitate this. I am also hoping that the mechanics of your home planet and managing it will also mean that travelling to lower tier planets will still be needed. This (in the sense of Terraria) is the only thing I worry about with this game. Terraria is a great game but aside from just building elaborate structures and whatnot once you get to a certain point there are no more challenges to be had. My first dungeon chest was crimson - those vampire knives were great and all, but now I just stand there in my turtle armor and attack. I dont even have to move anymore fighting any boss

I suppose if there are village management aspects that compel continual exploration and give some things to strive for it will sate me.

By the lives and the videos I seen, I think the gameplay is too slow, the monsters don't look very agressive and even when they attack they are slow.

I don't think having hunger or temperature mechanics as menu options is strong game design.

Things like that directly effect game balance and require in-game consequences. If you want to be able to ignore hunger or temperature, it should at least require a tech chip or armor slot. There are several ways to make these mechanics less annoying than they were in other games, and lets face it-- the real reason people complain about these things is because they didn't like the way they were done in other games. If Chucklefish uses these mechanics differently, like the way they are handling durability on tools, then the experience of hunger and temperature mechanics could be totally different and far more enjoyable.

As-is, it feels like they're making the game slightly worse by catering to a bunch of whiners.

Lol, still on that one luvdisc? Those were the good ol' days of these forums. Ha. A great argument, none the less. These days you have to be careful with astute observations/critisms... people are pic-ky. I was hoping you'd give some input on this thread.

Edit: I don't know WHAT was going just then. Fixed.

I want them to keep these things in the game, it would be cool though if there techs that created food or gave warmth to the player though.

    Want more?

I feel like most/all gripes in this thread have to do with content that is planned for later on, or thematic issues that aren't revealed yet. For example, the darkest content is obviously going to be part of the actual story line, since when planets die and people are tortured it generally involves stuff happening that you want to get involved in (either for or against it). On the other hand, silly content usually manages to entertain by merely existing, and so doesn't usually constitute spoilers. The devs can readily reveal all of the silly stuff without ruining the game's story, but the darker stuff is being held back a lot more. We have seen a prison with "they said they would come back" scratched into the walls along with torn paper and a single folding chair, but we have no idea who or why or how this came to be. To some degree, not knowing is what makes it so dark.

The biggest and most justified gripe I see is actually the monsters, but as far as I know the random monster Friday ones use an outdated program that only uses a handful of mob parts that they had available over a year ago when they first started the thread. The streams may or may not be more like what we will find in the actual game. However, I would like to note that all of my very favorite monsters were made by the random generator. Here are just a few that I think are really amazing and would love to have as my pets:

I think the monsters look alright, but I hope the monsters we see are dependant on the planet we are currently on, there could be a set of monster parts for each planet type.

I honestly don't see the point in that. Maaaaaybe have a color bias on certain planets, like more white/blue on arctic planets or more red/black on volcanic planets, while forests and oceans have full variety. I can't think of any monster legs or heads or whatever that would seem out of place on any particular planet, though. Maybe you should give me a more specific example?

EDIT: Mob prefixes maybe? Like on arctic planets, there could be a 50% chance of a "frost" prefix that adds resistance to cold-type attacks and a weakness to fire on that mob, while also changing the color palette to white or blue? This could also be dependent on the layer or mini-biome underground, so crytal caves have a 50% chance of the mob being a "crystal" mob that must have a body part that has crystals in it.

Thought the same, but that was all low tier. Higher tier should be faster, plus rare monsters/bosses should be a lot more agile (like in Terraria, but boss designs can be very diverse).

Hopefully, otherwise a lot of atmosphere is going to be lost :iswydt:

These two quotes, separately and combined are exactly what I mean. And are great posts. I'm sure less people would have issue with a fluffy Pokemon looking creature, IF the planet that spawned it was fluffy and full of Pokemon vibes, cotton ball trees, whimsically colored landscapes and vistas, cotton candy colored firmament. Just Dr. Seuss inspiredness [poetic license]. It's all fine (if not overbearing), if the planets theme resonates with its tones. If ALL the trees had foliage what looked like cotton, the flowers cotton, and the creatures that spawned resembled these:

that wouldn't be too bad. It is intelligently designed. Luvdisc, these were the examples you were looking for? This is what I (and possibly Steel) was alluding to.

Moreover, all the creatures with eggshells somewhere on there bodies, being in an eggshell saturated world, would again, reduce their peculiar look. They would fit in. The crystal covered creatures, to their crystal covered worlds. To each their own. That level of thoughtout, well-designed, clever monster creation, warrants these oft silly creations. (Although I still feel as some would need to be reworked, some body parts just don't line up well with others, and look just awful). But, and I may be flamed for this, I don't feel that level of thought went into the random monster generator. Maybe the one off monsters will fit in this way, but as for the RMG I think its purpose is served, it spits out monsters, and 'that is that'. Only time will tell whether I'm wrong on that.

LuvDisc, you say those are your favorites. I actually don't have issue with any of those specifically. "Creative" as they are, their parts just work together better. Maybe I could find some shred of complaint with their coloration UNLESS the planet called for it in some way. But those are good examples of good combination. Perhaps I'll update this post with ones I feel are awful in a bit. Maybe in a spoiler, this post is bordering on biblical.

  11. I don't find anything wrong with the game as of now, but once the Beta is in our hands is when the true tests will begin and the community will be able to give direct input on such things.

I actually really like the first one, but didn't include it in my earlier post because it isn't animated. I'd feel comfortable seeing it on any sort of planet, though I admit that red would be an odd color to see on an arctic planet. I can definitely see what you mean about the cutesy vibe of the other two, though. They would still probably feel just fine in any environment that isn't an apocalyptic wasteland or volcanic caldera... These types of mobs do need to be in the game, though. Some players will really want to have cutesy pets, and this provides a terrific incentive for them to explore.

It got me thinking and reminded me of a few RMG mobs that had these obnoxious smiles all the time, even when taking damage, and it just seemed really lame. Some people might think that's creepy, but I just think it's awkward and lazy unless the smile is intentionally creepy, like with fangs or something. I suppose there are just some mob parts that look kinda lame no matter what they are combined with, tbh.

Almost any flying creature that isn't bat-like would feel out of place underground.

The more I think about this, the more annoying it seems, actually. :/

I agree. Seeing these little guys on a prison planet would be off putting. But they aren't put together wrong. They just suit a specific environment (to me).

    Now this thing, for example:

An eggshell, so it hatched? No, it has mechanical legs, so it was manufactured? ...Silly thing.

I have no more complaints regarding Starbound, but personally, I think that the poll should have an option saying "But I did post!" because it's disappointing when you can't answer a poll (at least to me).

    LMAO. I won't...

I could only imagine what else can come out of the RMG with that head (no pun intended). But I'll say that there's one less mod that needs to be created.
