Acrid's just a beast when it comes to boss killing if you're good with using DOT and guerrilla tactics. Not to mention how much heals and damage you can do with epidemic on the worm/dragons. And I just kept getting frost relics and just whaled on him after killing the twin snakes. It was frickn' great...
Other classes, hit and run. always. Acrid is just the best when it comes to that...

My worst experiences come from my old NES, Mario 3 is absurdly long considering it has no saving or password system whatsoever. Many days of work leaving the game on the pause screen have been ruined by accidentally bumping the cartridge. T_T

Unless, of course, you use the whistles. Seems like the only way to actually play SMB3 in one sitting, lol. And even then, unless you got good at World 7 and World 8... you were probably just going to die in the tank/airship levels anyways.

By the way, has someone said anything about Binding of Isaac on this thread? Because when this decides to throw salt at you, it does throw tons. (power outages are your worst ennemy on this game)

When playing roguelikes you gotta stop worrying and learn to love the RNGsus.

That or be hooked to serum bags 24/7.

At least binding of Issac doesn't start off with thirty packets of salt and a shaker up your bum like in traditional purebred roguelikes (brogue, wazhack, nethack, moria, cataclysm, etc.)... Sometimes can't even get past the first floor because I forgot to use wipe to wipe poisonous goo off of my face...

*CTD* Hmm... My last save was how many hours ago?

Also, playing Hyrule Warriors Legends and missing A rank by one second or a small amount of damage. Also, Skull Kid's fairy spam attack.

    Everyday.
    All day.
I am the salt machine. It's me.
    >go to sniper someone as traitor
    >dude is kill, celebrate
    >whoops this guy was just there with a double barrel sitting right behind me as i fucked this guy up from like 2 buildings off

Very few things annoy me in games because I don't let them; even if I'm playing an RPG and a glitch makes the save unplayable. Disappointed and upset, not angry.

However, there is a time in the past I recall where I got really angry. Fighting against the final boss of Dynamite Headdy for the Genesis, and Jaws for the NES. Dark Demon because I could never beat him, and Jaws because he's a POS that has god mode on until you perform specific things (on top of the horrid encounter rate).

Nostalgia trip, man! I always had to use the Game Genie, though.

Also, Solo Legendary on Halo Reach. Got to the last part of the last mission, and had to have my pro friend come in and finish the mission for me because I couldn't kill the Brutes easily enough with my DMR.

Wow, I completely forgot about that! When I got my Game Genie for the NES, I was young and stupid and couldn't get it to work (although I'm sure it was simple), so I got disappointed about it too. My first real fun experience with cheating was GameShark for the PS1, however. I would save to use it after I beat a game.

Now, my go-to cheating application is Cheat Engine. Gods, I love that thing.

That's horrible, sorry to hear that. Hope it is fixed soon enough! :(

@Vith : When the NES 2.0 came out (the top-loading kind), the Game Genie would not physically fit in the cartridge slot. I was rather sad when that happened. Maybe that's why you couldn't get it to work? Were you a late-comer into the NES era and had to make-do with a NES 2.0?

Otherwise, it was pretty simple, you stick the thing in there, when you turn it on you get a code screen and you input the codes as the manuals told you to. Pretty simple and straight-forward. Some codes could be changed (I remember Mission: Impossible being, well, Impossible without the Game Genie, and even WITH the game genie I used morphed codes because the ones in the manual weren't good enough and EVEN THEN, the last level of the game is STILL balls hard!).

Though I will give credit where credit is due: The NES 2.0 produced the best day I ever had in gaming: Since I could not use a game genie and I had a hankerin' for Battletoads one morning, I stuck the cart in without the game genie, knowing I would never get to the end... well, a couple hours later... POW! The Dark Queen was knocked off her tower and I couldn't believe I beat Battletoads.... THE Battletoads.... without the Game Genie. My hands were sweating, my pulse was racing... it was awesome. Then I stuck in TMNT2: The Arcade Game... yet another game I always had to cheat with.... and I beat that, too!

By the time suppertime finally rolled around... I had tucked two awesome wins under my belt, and I never did anything that awesome since. Ah well. Old (but fond) memories and all.

Haha, wow, I didn't even know there were different NES models! This one is indeed the one I had. But, as you can guess, that is indeed what happened, ROFL.

Congratulations on the Battletoads, I didn't think it was honestly possible. :O

What makes or breaks a Battletoads run, is Level 2 (the level with the ropes). You can rack up a LOT of extra lives in this level and it is absolutely crucial for your average non-speedrunner to finish the game without cheating (though I did use warps). If you mess up and don't get very many lives... you're doomed.

You know, I'm pretty conflicted. I kind of miss games with insane difficulty (some ones can still be found [good roguelikes]), but at the same time, I do like how Video Games have progressed these days. Other than Starbound I'd assume, what games are you into/what can you recommend?

Awesome man, thanks! I'll definitely check them out. I haven't played it yet, but The Quest looks promising too.
