What's the best method to obtain pixels?

I'm in the beta sector and I've managed to get a full soldier set of armor as well as craft the best weapon I can make. I've also fully upgraded my pick axe to diamond.

It looks like I'm supposed to be making a robotic crafting table, and to do that it looks like I need to make a robot. This is a costly endeavor, however, and though I'm waist deep in ore I find that pixels are very hard to obtain.

The best luck I've had so far is by simply digging deep, deep down into the planet and finding pixel caches. This is a time-consuming and dangerous method, however, and with no easy way to get back to the surface I find myself loathing that option.

What do you guys do? I'd like to progress but getting pixels is kind of difficult.

If you can, get a uh.. Pixel Compressor refinery, I believe [Thanks rukio.]

Since you'll end up with a ton of excess diamond ore, use that to turn it into pixels.

If you can't get that, try going surface dungeon hunting on medium sized planets.

Or you can just do it the classic way and camp the living shit out of the surface's monsters.

Also, a cheating way to get back to the surface is to exit the game and re-join.

The only reasonable way to farm pixels is by farming ores and compress them via Pixel Compressor. Drops from monsters and loots are way too low, but I guess there numbers will be tweaked

Don't die! you lose 30% of your pixels everytime. If you have 6000 pixels, and you spend half an hour getting another 3000, the moment you die you might as well not have bothered. If you play it without worrying about dying then your pixels will just go down and down. The only way to make sure that you have what you need to begin with is by running away the minute your health gets below 30%, sleeping in tents or warping back to your ship. Its annoying that you cant properly store them, but I think the trick is not to go too deep, and not to push your luck too much. You also have to make sure you have lots of food. I had 60,000 pixels, and I lost 20,000 because I starved to death!

I'd like to argue. Don't use the Pixel Compressor. Just leave your ore in ingot format. When you need pixels, simply refine in-demand. You don't waste any pixels due to having to compress this way.

It's called a Refinery guys. and it takes ore to make pixels.

Or bars. Ore bars. Ha, see what I did there?
Anyways, bars seem to be balanced with the ores, except for diamonds. Leave diamonds in ore form when refining.
All bars give twice the amount of it's corresponding ore, because it takes 2 ore to make 1 bar.
Pixel Compressor is for compressing Pixels into Voxels, which act as a storage item for pixels. Voxels are not harmed when you die, but when you refine them, you lose 40% of the pixels used in their construction.

Getting a job and spending your hard earned pixels into the casino only to lose them all and repeat the cycle again.

If you start a new character, and try and focus on never dying, you'll find that you'll always have enough pixels. You can refine ores, but the likelihood is if your trying to craft the second boss you won't have enough spare to be able to make enough money before you die again and lose a massive chunk. Plus you cant make the pixel compressor until after you kill the robot. Just try playing for like 3 hours with a new character, avoiding death at all costs, and then as one where you die all the time, and in the same time you'll get like 10x as many pixels.
