I thought of another fun question for us. If you were a villager in the game, what would one of your cut scenes be? Could be something romantic, funny, something revealing about your character's past, or just some fun little thing that gives more insight into who your character is or what they like to do in their free time. Mine would have to be something in the Secret Woods. There's just something so magical about it, no matter what time of year it is. I could see my character in there sketching or meditating, or just relaxing by the pond, enjoying the atmosphere. The farmer would come in and there would be a conversation about how my character always comes there to unwind and how she feels a connection to the earth and that's why she enjoys farming so much. Especially gardening. She could talk about the junimo perhaps. This would probably be at 4 or 6 hearts. I'd have to have something much more romantic for the 10-heart scene but I'd have to think a bit on that one. lol So what would yours be? How many hearts?
At six hearts: Entering Lillian's farm after sunset during the Fall, you spy a flicker of light through the densely overgrown trees. Following a winding cobblestone path, you come across Lillian and her cat, next to a small campfire deep in the wooded area of the farm. She looks up, a little surprised by the intrusion, then nods you closer to the fire. There's a jug of spiced cider-- doubtless from the grove of apple trees you passed as you entered the farmstead-- and she nudges it towards you. Leaves swirl in the cool breeze as the shadows of night creep out of hiding. The cider is pleasantly warm from being so close to the blaze. There is a tiny iron cauldron suspended over the fire, and as you watch, she carefully scrapes some powdered gemstones into it, and the fire takes on some purple and blue hues at the edges. She explains, in somewhat technical terms, the principles of Sympathy and Contagion that accompany elementary witchcraft, and the Doctrine of Signatures which she uses to formulate her experiments. It's a strange hybrid of modern chemistry and ancient alchemy; explanations blurring harmonic resonance with quantum entanglement. Lillian adds a final reagent and you watch as the contents of the kettle coalesce into a small glowing pendant, which she offers over. A trinket, really, just an experiment in the crafting of it and nothing more. Holding it next to your ear, you hear a faint twinkling hum that she tells you is the sound of an electrical storm on a moon of Jupiter. Perhaps she is teasing you. But the sound is quite musically pleasant either way...
hmmm.... this sounds fun! i'm going for it. 2 heart scene would be when you enter jade's farm during the day and she introduces you to all of her fluffy little bunny friends. She talks about how she didn't expect to enjoy the farm life, but she really does! 4 heart scene would be in the secret woods. she's exploring and gets surprised when she sees you approach. she talks about how fascinated she is about the valley's history, then asks you what you think about the valley. your response (good, neutral, bad) depends on her reaction- she's happy if you say you find the valley interesting, too. she'll mention how the rural life has a very special feeling compared to urban life. 6 heart scene occurs in her house. she's in pajamas and gets embarrassed because she didn't expect a visitor- despite that, she's very happy to see you! she explains that she was about to wind down and play some video games, and asks for you to join her. if you say yes, the both of you go upstairs to play a co-op game. you won't get to *actually* play the game, but she does talk about it and mentions how she used to want a larger role in game design and artistry before backing out. she tells you to not feel sorry for her though, since she wouldn't have been able to meet you if she pursued her initial dreams. 8 heart scene is when you enter the mines. strangely, she isn't equipped for monster fighting and instead has a picnic basket full of noms. she happily greets you and asks if you'd like to join her- there is a place in the mines she likes to eat and think. taking the elevator leads both of you to the 20th floor, and she sets up a picnic right beside the underground lake. she shares food with you and then talks about why she left the city and traveled so far to stay in a place like pelican town. after all that exposition, she thanks you for listening and says how eager she is to learn more about you, too. she accidentally slips about how she thinks about you all the time and worries about you being alone. 10 heart scene starts when you go to her house after receiving an invitation to meet her at night. she greets you, then takes your hand and guides you out of the farm and deep into the forest. from there, you discover a huge, abandoned neighborhood, but it seems like jade has been there before. there is a spot in the neighborhood that has a huge clearing to watch the stars, and since no one knows of the place's existence. fireflies swarm the area and the moon glows brightly. the moment is right: she confesses about how she has fallen in love with you and wishes for a future together. after the confession, she gets extremely nervous and tries to leave. you have the option of asking her to stay and reciprocate (or reject) her feelings, or you have the option of letting her leave. if she leaves, she takes it as a rejection and never brings up the interaction. if you get her to stay and accept her feelings, a kiss happens. if you reject in a more abrupt way, she punches you in the face, cries, and leaves. your health is slightly docked after the event if you rejected her feelings.
I wouldn't be a bachelorette, I'm asexual irl. But I'd probably be a crazy cat lady kinda character, living in a hut in the forest with a couple of cats. And my cutscene? Hmm, I don't really know. I'm an aspiring cat trainer, so maybe I could show off a couple of the tricks my cats can do or something
Omg these are really good answers guys. I'm still brainstorming on mine, got a few ideas swirling around but not quite there yet. I probably should have thought this through a bit more before posing the question. lol
Okay, I finally sat down and typed up what mine would be. Hope you like em'. Enter the library during the evening. You will find Luthien sitting at one of the tables drawing. A box full of markers and a few loose sheets of paper are strewn about. She's very focused on her work and it takes her a minute to notice you. She finally looks up and says hi, and you ask her what she's working on. She shows you a sketch of a strange creature that looks vaguely like an apple, hiding in some branches. It's interesting, you tell her, but it's really good. She says thanks and explains that she's always liked drawing, ever since she was little, and before she came to Stardew Valley she was trying to make art a full-time career. But it was hard to pay the bills that way, she says, so she had to have the Joja job despite how much she hated working there. She says maybe she'll show you more of her art some day and goes back to working on her picture. The scene fades to black. Enter the farm during the early part of the day. Luthien is at her stable, taking care of her horse. She invites you to come grab a brush and help her out, and you oblige. She tells you that she's always loved horses, but living in the city, in a small apartment, she never dreamed she'd actually own one. She says she loves having the farm and hopes to someday have more horses, and lots of cows as well. She also tells you her horse is named Lightning because right as she was choosing his name, a huge bolt of lightning struck the ground a few feet away! She then thanks you for helping out and gives you a carrot to feed to Lightning. The scene fades as he eats it from your hand. Visit the farmhouse in the evening. Luthien will be inside, and you'll see a box in front of her, along with a whole assortment of rocks, gems and crystals spread across the table. She tells you she's organizing her collection, as it's been getting a bit messy lately. You ask her where she finds all those cool rocks and she says she likes to visit the mines from time to time and she finds the neatest stuff down there. She holds up her favorite piece – a glittering green cluster of crystals called Ocean Stone. She tells you to pick out a favorite from the pile and when you select one, she tells you go ahead and keep it. The gem you pick will go into your inventory and the scene fades. You receive a letter in the mail from Luthien asking you to meet her at the community center at 5pm. (The community center doesn't have to be fixed, this scene will happen either way.) You enter the building and Luthien is waiting, seated on the floor with some folders sitting next to her. She invites you to sit beside her and hands you one of the folders. Its a portfolio, and as you flip through it you see pages and pages of beautiful art, full color renditions of the forest and all it's creatures. Not just regular ones either, but creatures from fantasy as well – faeries, angels, elves, unicorns, dragons....more of those apple things too. She lets you look for a minute, and then pulls a single page from another folder and hands it to you, and says she made it for you. Its a portrait of you. She says she only draws for people she really likes, and she hopes you understand what that means, blushing a bit. The screen goes to black as you continue to look at the art she gave you. You receive another letter from Luthien, this time telling you to come to the Secret Woods at night (after 8pm). This scene has to be triggered in Summer. You find Luthien in the forest sitting near the pond. She's not doing anything in particular, just watching the trees. She motions for you to come closer and says she wanted to share something special with you. You sit next to her and wait. Shortly after, as the woods darken, fireflies start to appear. First a few, then more, until the whole area is aglow with tiny lights flickering around the two of you. As you watch the fireflies, Luthien scoots closer and tells you she's never invited anyone in here with her, but she feels there's something special between the two of you and she wanted you to be here with her tonight. If you tell her you feel the same, she blushes and says she kind of thought so, and she leans closer. The two of you kiss as the scene fades, with the sound of crickets singing to a romantic, faerie-like song. If you turn her down, she is disappointed but she says she hopes it doesn't change your friendship. You watch the fireflies as the scene fades, though Luthien looks sad.
Surprised no one's asked this yet. +1 for a great question @LuthienNightwolf ! and also for going all out those scenes could def be in the game at some point along with some others already posted. Well... unlike the many excellent responses so far, my narcissistic ego is forced to craft a self serving series of events devoid of both modesty and moderation. and it would go something like this... 2x - You meet him, "The Dude", for the very first time. His hearts are at 2 already because he's such a nice guy. You notice that he's as buff as he is handsome, which is very. You have the option to swoon now or swoon later away from public. Either option makes little difference as he will notice you and smile, showing his perfect white teeth gleaming in the high noon sun. This time you swoon and there is no option to resist. 4x - It doesn't take long to become good friends with Dude. You catch him fishing one afternoon and he smiles again. You've grown stronger due to your several interactions and are able to postpone the swooning for long enough to have a decent conversation. It's pleasant. You feel like you know more about him, though nothing stands out as special. Regardless, the swoon is about to kick in and you excuse yourself. 6x - By the time he invites you into his home for lunch, you're starting to be more comfortable with just the two of you spending time together. He shares some hilarious stories of when he won a Mr. Olympia competition even though he forgot to flex. 7 times in a row. You have the option to flex yourself and show off what you got. Alternatively, you can laugh along with him or simply listen quietly. If you laugh or listen, he will tell you that it's been great but he needs to get some stuff done. It will be a successful hangout. If you choose to flex, he'll feign admiration and ask you to work out with him. You take him up on the offer and go home tired but satisfied. An option is now unlocked every morning between 6-7 AM to work out with Dude. Your stamina will be partially depleted but after sleeping, it will permanently increase slightly. His heart level will increase a little more than usual. 8x - You meet Dude on the pier one rainy night. It's just a light drizzle but it's also a little cold. He's not fishing and doesn't notice your approach until you're right next to him. He gives you a curt hello, uncharacteristically. After a long pause, he explains that he likes to come to the pier on nights like these to reminisce about his late grandfather. He tells you that he only knew his grandad for a short time but that he made him the man he is today. He tells you of his dream to match and eventually surpass his grandfather in consecutive and total Mr. Olympia championship victories. You can choose to encourage him or tell him to give up his dreams. If you choose the latter, he will lose 6 hearts and you can no longer access any of his heart scenes. If you choose the former, he immediately goes up one heart level and grabs your hand, thankful for the encouragement. 10x - This time, Dude asks you to meet him at his home again. As soon as you arrive you can tell that the atmosphere is strangely different. He's sweating and you ask if he just finished working out. He shakes his head. He wanted to talk you to about something important and it's making him sweat almost as hard. He paces for a bit, curling some dumbbells to work up the courage. Finally, he takes a deep breath and gets down on one knee. You feel like you know what's coming. He finally spits it out and asks if you can spot him on his world record bench press. You're not sure how to respond. He begs you, saying that you're the only one who's ever worked out with him and he trusts no one else. He insists that this is important and you know that it is. You reluctantly spot him and he breaks the world record. He subsequently goes on to win another Mr. Olympia competition, televised nationwide. When he returns, you're the first person he comes to. He gets down on one knee again and hands you the medal, saying that without you he couldn't have won. He regards you as his "muscle muse" and asks you to be with him forever. If you decline, he becomes dejected, loses all hearts and motivation, and never participates in Mr. Olympia again. You destroy his life basically and it makes you feel very bad because the game doesn't want you to say no. If you say okay, you're instantly married and there's confetti everywhere. Some of it gets in your mouth but you don't really mind that much. The End.
lol Omg @Gabaw I giggled the whole time I was reading that. And pictured a young Arnold Schwarzenegger type guy in farm attire, bench-pressing in the pasture while the cows watch. Very good response! I'm loving all of these. ^u^
A two heart scene for Lillian: Straying into the woods south of the farm (near the Wizard's Tower) you spot Lillian out foraging for mushrooms. She appears lost, making hesitant steps first one direction, and then another. When you approach, she startles and drops her basket, and mushrooms spill out onto the forest floor. As you help her to gather them back into the basket, she confesses that she is not entirely sure of the exact path back to the farm entrance near Marnie's Ranch. The two of you suddenly hear some of Marnie's cows off to the North-East, and start heading that way as the camera fades out.
I learned more about Beatrice from this exercise. Funny you can create a character, but not know everything about them. Not sure if six and four should be switched though, also might be too many cut scenes at the farm. Uh I usually don't write things like this, so here goes nothing I guess eh? 2 hearts: In town. Beatrice's cows escape into town causing a ruckus in a usually quiet town. (We need a little more pandemonium in this town once in a while I think.) Mayor Lewis is not happy about this at all, and tries scolding Beatrice which does not go over well. They argue about this, and the player is asked who is wrong about this. The player can defend Mayor Lewis, defend Beatrice, be neutral or just say I am not getting involved. It turns out Jas and Vincent were messing with the animals, and Vincent spooked them after Jas told him not to do the thing, which he did anyway. Beatrice is not pleased about this, but she is not mad. She tells them they can visit the animals, but when she is there next time. She chuckles and says Sandal the cow spooks easily, and gets the other cows going. 4 hearts: At farm: Beatrice has an old portable radio next to her while she sits on the porch, she also has a dusty old box next her. She is looking through an old book of sorts, she looks up and notices the player. She says hello, and tells the player jokingly she is doing some archeology in the old farm house, and it got her reminiscing. She will tell the player about the farm, and how she used to visit in the summer. How she used to catch frogs and dragon flies around the pond. Also the time she accidentally let the frogs go in the house. She explains that this was her Grandfather's radio, and that they used to take it on fishing trips. She gets a little teary eyed about how she misses those times with him, but she smiles and says she is alright, it's just the dust from the box making her eyes water. She remembers something, and pulls a piece of yellowed paper out of the box, and hands it the player. It's a recipe for fudge brownies says she used to make it with her Grandpa, and thinks you might like it. 6 hearts: At farm. Running around trying to get as many things done as possible. Player walks up and starts talking to her. She is anxious to get things done, and tells the player she is very very busy, and has to get a bunch of things done that day, so perhaps to come back another time. The player can offer to help out, which would result in a scene with helping out with crops and feeding animals. After all the chores are done, she would chuckle, pat the player firmly on the back which would result in winded sound from the player. She would thank them for the hard work, and invite them in for a meal. 8 hearts: At farm and activated on a stormy day. I get my character would be scared of thunder storms, and would be mighty embarrassed about it being found out. That's why you would never see her on storm days. The power would go out, and then lightening bolt hits the house. She would cling to the player like a spooked cat, then awkwardly unlatch, and then apologize profusely while blushing. Player can offer to stay until the storm is over, and they light some candles, and play some old board games. Should I attempt to write a 10 heart event? It seems it might be tricky, I'm not good at writing romance.
I am quite entertained at the thought of escaped cows in the town. This needs to happen in the game. lol
I write funny snippets off and on, have done a few short stories...and I can't think of any good ideas for cut-scenes! UGH! (however, I'm not good at writing romance. My strength is humor and satire) I need my muse...where'd my muse go...? Did she wander off to play with the juminos again?
I've been thinking about this. Hmm... I'll need another day. I've some starts of ideas, but nothing solid yet. I need more time! *Runs away to think of cutscenes*
My cutscene would probably just be Ame aggressively hoeing at the ground mumbling things like "I know you're in there.." "Just need a tibia..." and "not another f*cking rusty spoon". /bows and exits
If I was an NPC, I'd probably have to be a Marlon type - can't socialize hardly ever, can't gift. But I'd have quests, just to make it a royal pain to earn my esteem. Then my cutscene would be calling you out on it, because it makes so little sense to run errands for a stranger, no questions asked, when there are better ways to spend your time. But it'd be packaged in a more encouraging tone than I care to write up at the moment.
I am going to speculate that if I were an NPC, then I *wouldn't* be the farmer, so I'd have a different profession. My NPC's name would be William and he would live in the house in the south of Cindersap Forest (Hat Mouse can eat a lemon, it's *my* house!) and he would be a Lumberjack! A nice bearded fellow with a red plaid shirt and suspenders. You could find him in Cindersap Forest most days chopping at trees, and at the Saloon at night. He would be close friends with Clint, Robin, and Linus. When he's not chopping trees he's fishing in the forest river. On Fridays he'd go to the mountain to drop of a load of wood and stone for Robin, and then fishes in the mountain lake for the rest of the day. On Sunday he spends all day at the beach, fishing of the Eastern Pier in the morning and suntanning in the afternoon (in a speedo ) except in winter he spends all day in the bathhouse (in a speedo ). If you don't marry him, he fancies Sandy. Some of his dialogue includes: "Hi there! Are you the new farmer? My name's William." "Swing by anytime you want to AXE me a question!" "Huehuehue" "Hey Farmer Lady/Lad, how goes the planting season?" "Is it going Oak-kay? Haha!" "Woah! I didn't see you there! I almost chopped you in half!" "That wooden be nice, would it? Haha" "Wow! A Birthday gift! I can see why you're so poplar! I love it!" "Where are you off to in such a hurry?" "Alright, I'll leaf you alone!" "Hahaha!" "I'm busy today" "Did you know I can cut down trees just by looking at them?" "I SAW it with my own eyes!" "Hi *farmer's name*. I'm just bringing a shipment of wood for Robin" "I'm also bringing her some stone. Isn't that gneiss of me? Hehehe!" "I'm just taking the day off and enjoying the water" "I really like the beech." "But I forgot my trunks!" "Happy Feast of Winterveil, Farmer!" "What? Are you waiting for a pun?" "Not today, I tell you puns all year long!" "You'd probably be sycamore" Two Heart Event: *Entering the Cindersap Forest before 10AM* William is fishing in the river on the little island. You approach from the right. He hauls a fish out of the water but it smacks you in the face. He makes a silly fish-related pun and then apologizes for hitting you. Asks if you forgive him. If you forgive him, he'll laugh and say he knew you were a good sport and say you're GROWING on him and the scene ends with him laughing once more. +50 friendship points If you don't forgive him, he'll shrug his shoulders and say "Okay, I'll make like a tree and leaf" -50 friendship points Four Heart Event: *Entering the Mountain after 6PM and before 10PM* William and Linus are sitting around Linus' campfire when you arrive. Linus is telling a story about how he spooked a rich lady when he was in Zuzu City because of his appearance, and how she dropped her hat but it was such a nice hat that he kept it. Linus then takes out the lady's hat and puts it on and laughs with William. After that he says he wants to go find some berries for tomorrow and leaves. William and the Farmer are left sitting on the fire when William starts talking about how sad he gets when people treat Linus badly just because of his lifestyle. He says Linus is one of his closest friends in Stardew Valley because he's always sharing his food and fire with him, even though he has so little. It this point the farmer can say "But he smells so gross" at which point William will say how some people are dirty on the outside, but clean on the inside while others are clean on the outside, but dirty on the inside. -150 friendship points, or they can say "Linus is nice, but we can't expect everyone to accept that" and William will say how it's because we expect less from each other that that is what we get -no change in friendship points, or they can say "Yeah, Linus is a good person and that's all that counts", and William will agree and say how people need to be more like you. He will end by saying that you're a good friend too. +50 friendship points Six Heart Event: *Entering the Secret Wood anytime before 10PM, with any weapon* William is busy cutting stumps when a group of slimes sneak up behind him and start attacking him. You run up and start killing the slimes. Afterwards, William gets back up and assures you that he's not hurt badly, but that he'd have some good bruises tomorrow. He also remarks that life is either 'win or ooze'. Then he tells you the reason he's in the Secret Wood was because he wanted to find a special flower (Spring: Daffodil, Summer: Sweet Pea, Fall: Fairy Rose, Winter: Crocus) for Sandy and then asks your advice. You can 1) Encourage him to approach Sandy 2) Tell him anybody would be lucky to find a guy like him or 3) Tell him to forget it, he's an ugly git. If you encourage him he'll agree to bring her the flower tomorrow and thank you - No change in friendship points. If you compliment him, he'll blush and say how nice you always are and how attractive kindness is to him +50 friendship points. If you insult him, he'll laugh and tell you what a birch (female) or an ash (male) you are, and say he's going to visit Sandy anyway. Eight Heart Event: *Enter William's Cabin after 6PM and he's home* William is facing the mirror and having a fake conversation about Sandy imitating a scene where he rescues her from a sand slime. Right after she exclaims "my hero" and he moves in to kiss the mirror he notices you standing in the doorway and jumps in fright. He asks how long you have been standing there. You can either say you just walked in, in which case William will tell you he was just shaving, or else you can say "I SAW EVERYTHING!" and then he'll say he was just rehearsing for a play and to just forget about it. Afterward he'll invite you to stay for supper. While you're eating you can ask if Sandy liked his flower or you ask him about his "play"/about why he still has a beard if he'd been shaving. If you ask about Sandy he'll admit that she liked the flower but things had gotten awkward between them. You can either encourage him to try again, saying she's probably waiting for him to make a move and he'll agree saying it's time he stopped pine-ing and tell Sandy how he feels(+20 friendship points), or you can tell him that there are plenty of trees in the forest and he'll say there is actually someone else he has his eye on. He/she is real sappy, but he likes that, but he won't tell you who (+50 friendship points). If you ask about his "play" or "beard" he'll get flustered and ask you to leave it alone. If you say "okay", you'll eat your meal in silence (no change in friendship) but if you ask if he was really rehearsing a play/shaving his beard he'll tell you he's not hungry anymore and ask you to leave (-100 friendship points) Ten Heart Event: Robin will show up at your door in the morning, asking if you've seen William. He was supposed to deliver a shipment of lumber but he never turned up and asks you to go look for him. The next scene you'll walk into the Secret Wood and find William by the old statue with a flower beside him (the same flower he gave Sandy in the Six Heart event) and tell you that Sandy rejected him. He tells you that he's glad she did and that he's not sad because of Sandy but because of how lonely he gets sometimes, and that just because he's big and strong doesn't mean he can't get hurt. He'll say that he was only infatuated with Sandy because he built her up in his head, but thinking of Sandy didn't make him happy it just reminded him how lonely he was which fueled the infatuation. He tells you that he has come to realize how much you mean to him, and how your kindness and friendship are real and not imaginary. He'll say he never feels lonely with you. He picks up the flower and walks down to the Secret Pond and say that he doesn't want to give you a flower (and throws the flower in the pond where it floats) he says he wants to give you a kiss. You can either kiss him or reject him. If you kiss him, the scene will scroll down to the pond with the floating flower, and ends with William saying he wants this moment to last forever. If you reject him he'll sigh and say he understands and sad music starts to play as he slowly walks away, and ends with William saying 'thank you for being my friend'. (-1500 friendship points)
Hmm ok guys im getting there. I've been slacking. Quick question: How many friendship points do you need to fill a heart?
@StardewPally I died 10/10 Wood you also say that you can find him lumbering around the forest? @CjBeats Wiki sez about two fiddy 250 points per except for 13 which is anywhere from a whopping 1 to a sensible 1000.
