What will the mechs be like. Will they have special perks like Guns Mechs like Avatar or Samurai Mechs from The Wolverine. I really want to know because I have to plan out awesome explosion jumps like

It's kind of hard for me to imagine what they'll do with mechs. They SOUND like a cool idea... at least, on the surface area. Using them underground sounds sketchy at best since they'll likely be rather big. Machine guns and all that good stuff will likely be a thing. I wonder if any boss battles will utilize them? Either way, I haven't heard a peep about mechs in a looooong time (and only in what I assume are mock-ups).

I'm more interested in boats and vehicles myself!

Definately Boats. I completely forgot about that. I want to land on some all water planet with few land spots and just boat my way around with an underwater base. I cant wait to see how that will work with the water physics!

Dunno, but mechs were one of the features that got me interested in Starbound! I owe my joining a such a nice community to them!

They will be mechs that are of a very mech nature, as off this point hp, offensive capabilities, and "perks" like splosion shumps are unknown like the dark depths of the ocean that only james cameron can find.

A long time ago when they were first announced tons of ideas sprouted up. I'm a huge Battletech fan since I was a boy so mechs are a tender spot for me. But I don't think customization or anything like that will happen. From the few and far between bits we have seen so far they just seem like a generic vehicle, all reverse-jointed bi-pedal walking vehicles with what appears to be a machinegun mounted under the 'chin' beneath the torso and cockpit.

At the very least we need color and color pattern customization. I can understand a generic pattern of vehicle because customization and tons of parts becomes a balancing nightmare. Look at BF3 and the later COD games, never ever balanced properly across all weapons once in their existence. This is partly due to inept developers making mistakes but also due to the large amounts of parts and how they interact when attached to certain weapons.

It's a game bandwagoning is not really smart. Sure the franchise went from good single player to tacked on single player with good multiplayer but omgz I hates all that is popular is just a weird way to think.

Do not take one sentence out of context. Look how I used that sentence. It is the truth, tons of parts and combinations of parts becomes a balancing nightmare since PVP is planned for Starbound. It's a simple fact with no need to make useless posts trying to undermine sentence taken out of context.

I actually hoped for a mech with something similar to the matter gun you start with for generic mining, except with double the area effect. If that came to fruition I could definitely deal with it.

I think the mechs can jump pretty well. Someone showed something a while ago of a mech jumping over a decent hump of dirt, gotta look around for it.

I'd be happy with mechs that allow for large scale terraforming with defensive/offensive secondary functions. They're mostly for construction, but they'll do in a pinch if a fight breaks out. Just don't expect too much.

If there's the option to customize what parts are installed (various guns, drills, bulldozer blades or excavator buckets to move earth, a chainsaw for mass clear cutting, etc), that's a bonus, but I'd settle for various models, each with its own pros and cons as well as the option to change the color/skin.

Being able to slap a logo on it would be the icing on the cake!

aside from what has been mentioned, they run off Energy. so a pretty sweet energy build could keep mechs out for a bit before being blooped back.

Autzome's speculation minute: probs won't regen energy while in them.

I'm also wondering about mechs too! Like how will they move, attack, etc?
I'm also wondering about virorbs... haven't heard much about them =P

When I think of Starbound and mechs in the same thought, this is what comes to mind. MegamanX1MegamanMechAni.gif

I think the mechs would rock as a utilitarian tool for mining, excavating, terraforming, etc. As Optix said, being able to swap out guns, drills, blades, and buckets would be simply amazing. Would definitely give players something to strive for.

On a side note, MorganRaptor, just remember, everyone is entitled to their own opinions. It doesn't necessarily make them right or wrong. There's no need to call others out just because they like something you don't. Just some friendly advice. :)

It'd be cool if we had some utility mechs for building in mining. I'd be in the rear with the gear.

It would be cool if we could customize it to a certain extend. I would love to build myself a Penitent Engine.
